Instead of banning them, just send these guys down to South America. This should stop the chanting.

Well now I'm insulted us EAGLES fans are a proud people with a rich cultural haritage. Who do you think pioneered same day court hearing under the stadium?! Or drove Santa underground using in ice balls and batteries!?! Yes we have a fight song that even South American tourist wish they had thought of, but we are proud rich Ringless people... E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

The chanting itself isn't that big of a deal to me. Sure, I'd *rather* hear the ambient sounds and music piped into each land, but a little chanting from anyone is fine as long as it's outside and passes by relatively quickly. If, however, I'm surrounded by it, outside or (especially) in a closed area such as a bus or inside queue, then it's a matter of courtesy. You can say it's a cultural thing, but if that's the case, then why is that culture so discourteous?

What I'd prefer Disney to do something about is individuals (using from the same demographic that are known for chanting) who hop railings to cut in line in front of people or who bump into each other rudely to get from one place to another. I had both of these happen in January in the queue for Buzz and the CM who saw it happen just shrugged her shoulders.

Three years ago, I was stuck in the queue for Big Thunder Mountain in the dead center of a Brazilian Tour Group (25 kids in front of me, 25 kids behind me) for about 45 minutes. If you had been with me for that 45 minutes, you'd understand why it "bothers people so much".

You know how a common joke about people being stuck in miserable circumstances is being on It's a Small World when the ride breaks down? How miserable it is to hear that song over and over and over again? Okay, now picture being in an enclosed area (a claustrophobic hallway) where people are screaming the same chant over and over and over again in a language you don't speak for close to an hour. Sure, it's a product of cultural differences ... but in American culture (where the WDW is), it's considered rude behavior.

I guess it's a product of cultural differences, then again - perhaps that's being too generous.
I'm at a theme park to take in all the sights, sounds and scents the theme park provides.
Not the guests.

Same here, but I was stuck in the caverns of POTC with the chanting. And it's not just about having fun, they know what they're doing.

I was stuck in the Tower Of Terror Queue and Ride with a large group of chanters...not only did they completely destroy any ambient music and storytelling in the lead up to the ride, but the pre-show was completely inaudible with the screaming chanting and clapping, then on the ride you could not hear one bit of the dialogue as they chanted and clapped through the entire experience...start to stop.
It was a horrible experience...
Luckily a very nice cast member took us aside and put us back on the ride without having to wait in line again... that helped...but you miss so much of the build up in the queue... I really wish there were some way to discourage this!@!

There is. When a tour group is entering the park, you have a language-proficient cast member ask to speak to the head of the group and lay down some basic ground rules and let it be known you expect them to be followed. Ground rule #1? No screaming relentlessly.

It's not that it can't be done; it's that Disney has lacked the will to do anything about it (until apparently this week).

I'm sure the chanting is annoying while waiting in lines. But I wouldn't know personally. Because you'll never ever find me getting in line behind, or just in front, of a tour group.
They're very easy to spot and avoid.
Waiting 5-10 minutes is generally more than enough time to allow the noisy groups to "move on through".

When a chanting group passes you out in a walkway, it's fun. When you are stuck near them in a queue for an hour, not so much.

I remember a really obnoxious Brazilian tour group back in the early to mid 90s that used to frequent Disney....A LOT! The one year (1998) I went to Disney 4 times, this tour group was ALWAYS there! When this group got together (and there were a lot of them), the chanting, yelling, and singing was pretty friggin' annoying when you were waiting in line to go ride Space Mountain. And, they were more annoying at the hotel, too. No one wants to hear your chanting poolside at 1am. That night warranted a phone call to the front desk and I'm not sure what happened (was too tired to care), but the chanting stopped immediately.

Now that I think of it, I haven't seen any Brazilian tour groups in awhile! Do they still travel in droves? Or have the masses shrunk? Or, do they go visit Disneyland (California) and chant their heads off over there?

Last year I was at Epcot doing the Illuminations dessert Party when 2 different Brazilian tour groups decided to sit next to the area and started having a chant off. It got that bad that the managers at the event had a word with the groups to tell them to shut up which they did and didn't hear anything from them for the rest of the night so it does work. The managers got a cheer from the dessert party guests for their efforts.
