depending on which car you ride, you either get a Cowboy or a Gangster show. However, since the gangster is more popular, they only seem to be running the cowboy show during peak season

I believe so... that's what my friend at GMR tells me

i'm sure it always has been around. otherwise, there'd be too big of a holdup for the cars...least i think there would be...i don't know how it all works. but think about it, the stops are right together, so as the car in the western scene takes off and leaves the area, it's already gone by the time the 2nd car has gotten there. just my take on it.
most of the time, however, i get the gangster. i didn't know it was a settup when i was a kid (the first time i rode it) so it scared me. but i LOVED the cowboy! he was hilarious! i THINK it all depends on which line you get in, but i could be wrong. is that how it works? the line you get in determines which car you get in? but i'm a little confused as to how they can completely cut out the cowboy scene. both cars have to stop at the same time...otherwise, the whole thing gets out of whack. right? help! :veryconfu

When I went in June, we had a shoot out in both locations. I thought it was kinda stupid, and redundant.

I was dissapointed gansters were already parked in the scene, the Bank didn't explode, the Alien didn't jump out (or down) Without those special effects, it's just a boring wax museum to me.

*phew* good! i was hoping i was on the right track, there! thanks, mktiggerman! :D yeah, it's been a while since i've ridden GMR too, so i've also forgotten which line is which. the last time i rode it, i didn't know which line was the cowboy, and i was hoping i got the right one...i didn't. i got the gangster :( just my luck, i didn't pay attention to which line i got in, so now i'm still clueless!

My favorite one is the Gangster version. (James Cagney is one of my favorite actors!) With or without the Alien or the explosions, I love this ride.

If you are in the front car you will be kidnapped by the cowboy/cowgirl. If you are in the back car you will be kidnapped by a gangster.

i like the cowboy version i hate the mobster version i have seen the mobster version now and to me it is not as lively as the cowboy version and has it always been two different scenes like that because in all the years i went before it was the cowboy scene that i have seen until the last couple of years then it is just been the mobster scene

Mobster

Why did they have to get politically correct on this ride. Last time I was there they had a female mobster and she was horrible. The previous time we had a middle aged Italian that was much more convincing. I know it is stereotypical but I think it should be. Arent all the mob movies?

It has always been the same way.

If you are in the first car, your car will go through the mobster area with your tour guide and there will be a shoot-out (but this shoot-out will be between the audio-animatronics only while the tour guide tries to get out of the way of the shoot-out). Then you will go into the western scene and have a shoot-out with a real person (cowboy/cowgirl), who then takes control of your car.

If you are in the second car, your car will stop in the mobster scene to have a shoot-out with a real person (a gangster), who takes control of your car. Then you will go into the western scene to have another shoot-out (but this shoot-out will be between the audio-animatronics only while the gangster tries to get out of the way of the shoot-out).

The rest of the ride is the same, except one car will have a gangster, and the other will have a cowboy/cowgirl.

I was there over spring break, and I seem to think it stopped in both places. And it ended up being my sweetie's favorite MGM ride (not counting ToT or RnR)

see, for me it was the other way around...for my first couple times it was just the mobster scene i would get stuck at....then one time i ride and i was dreading the mobster (they seem to intemidate me, even though i know they're just acting) and we just drive on past then stop at the western scene and get taken over by a cowboy...i was all freakin out thinkin 'hey this is something new!' when of course it actually wasn't. so to answer your question, i'm guessing yes, it has always been like this.

but i got a new question, and one that i just can't figure out....ok, both cars stop at Wizard of Oz...but when one is stopped at Indy, what is the other doing? is it stopped as well? if so, where? i just can't remember for anything right now! :hammer:

The Ops in the attraction (the "guides" and Gansters/Bank Robber) control the speeds of the vehicles.

You are constantly speeding up and slowing down as you go through the attraction.

In the Oz scene, both vehicles stop together, but the lead vehicle has the female guide. If there are two vehicles, of course.

The shootouts seperate the vehicles enough for the remainder of the ride until you get to the Indy section. Vehicles 1 speeds up to exit the ganster scene (getting out of the way) and the second vehicle slows down to stop.

If i remember correctly, vehicle 2 is creeping through Alien while vehicle 1 is going through the Indy scene.
