Changes to Extra Magic Hours character meet and greets at the Magic Kingdom

So essentially, there will be no meet and greets during evening EMH. One of the most "magical" things about evening EMH was going into Fantasyland late at night and seeing the characters, who weren't mobbed by people, getting to "play" a little. Chip and Dale went off in the grass searching for acorns, Donald played with the sword, Pluto and Goofy went on Dumbo...it was always a joy to watch them. So sad they're taking that away.

Way to go, TDO. I'm annoyed, but not the least bit surprised.

At one point the characters were allowed to have magical moments towards the end of the night. Usually, they took several guests on Fantasyland rides-Dumbo, Carousel etc. One of the characters fell off the carousel so that was canned. The characters are no longer allowed to ride rides with guests.

I'm not certain why all the meet n greets have been taken out, but it's a bad decision IMO. At least have Mickey and Minnie out.

Thanks for the info, Drew. This is a pretty awful thing to lose -- I'm not one for characters, at all, but I loved seeing them run around Fantasyland late at night and go for a spin on Dumbo with totally thrilled kids. Heck, even I was thrilled just being a few elephants away! It felt like one of those things you see in WDW commercials, you know? One of those quintessential Disney "magical moments" they love to toot their horn about. It's sad to see it taken away for good. I don't want CMs hurt, of course, but it seems unnecessary to take it away completely. :(

TDO usually cheaps out by ADDING M7G instead of real attractions.... Now, they cheap out by REMOVING a M&G... Just when TDO couldn't get any cheaper.... They even beat their own lows....

Could they be removing these Evening EMH Meet & Greets due to the late hours that the Evening EMH's cover this time of year? Seriously, how much traffic to those characters get at 1 AM, 2 AM, & 3 AM? Why pay people to work if they are not busy doing something? As long as the characters return when the Evening EMH hours get back to times when they visitors will be more plentiful and more likely to have little kids who will want that experience, then I am ok with their temporary removal.

Excellent point. Maybe the construction going on in Fantasyland has something to do with these new cuts, with all the construction walls filling the area, leading to potential crowd control problems.

Also, Disney is not the cheapest company in the world anyway. And it's not TDO's doing either.

I know they're not allowed to ride the Carousel anymore (an attendant told me "a chipmunk fell off"), but when did they become banned from riding Dumbo? I rode Dumbo with Pluto in February. Is this a recent switch?

This was probably the most magical thing we experienced on our trip in May. First they kill Flynn, and now this. I swear, it's the *magic* things that make me keep going back...so kill the magic, kill my desire to continue all those trips.

(my daughter pulling the sword from the stone at 3am - I conditioned her for a few days to make it up this late! ;))

We had heard characters no longer got on rides, but when we were there on 5/29 we watched Goofy ride Dumbo several times with different guests.

(sorry to keep posting over and over, lol)

But correct me if I'm wrong...I thought all the characters were only out and about in FL on the REALLY late EMH nights? That's what I was always told, and we only saw them when EMH ran until 3am (and they started surfacing well after 1am). I am been for earlier EMH nights and never seen characters.

I think it's probably the late hours and that only a small percentage of people visiting for EMH see the characters. At least that's what I heard.

They might've changed the policy on the rides w/ characters??? I'm not sure on that.

I heard that they're only not allowed on the carousel; they can ride Dumbo. I had heard last year that they're not allowed on the teacups, but then I saw them ride a few weeks later. And I think they might be allowed on the carousel, but only if they ride in the chariot.

this is really sad news.

emh characters in fantasyland was a terrific experience.

watching 7 characters trying to lift--and sometimes succeeding-- the sword in the stone and seeing the look on the faces of children riding dumbo with the characters was priceless.

last night's emh in fantasyland was depressing without the m&g

fur characters cannot ride the carrousel.

sometimes the princesses will ride it, but it's a rare occurrence.

Exactly! During the day the characters can only meet and greet. Night was their time to play. I hope this is a temporary change.
