Changes at WDW due to alligator attack (dedicated thread)

You don't look much to the west traveling the monorail do you ? The canal on the northwest corner of the Seven Sea Lagoon goes behind Shades of Green. I wouldn't expect you to know that unless you've played the course or have walked the grounds of Shades. There are gator hazard signs all over the place at the resort and on the courses, have been for a at least 14 years that I can remember.

You do know that that can walk across pavement and even run.

I'm not going to argue the point, but, as far as I know all the water in the developed areas of WDW are connected. They would almost have to be in order to maintain drainage and balance to the water control systems in the resort. And like I said before... alligators do not need water to get from one place to another. They are perfectly capable of crossing land.

One doesn't have to have a computer to know that, all they have to do is occasionally pay attention to the outside world that isn't necessarily showing up on their SmartPhone screen. The first time I traveled from upper, upper New York State to Florida was in 1962 and I knew about alligators, snakes and other critters in Florida. There were no such things as computers or anything other the old dial phones. And I was only 14 or so.
Jeebus guys, forest through the trees.

I've got a creek behind my house that eventually flows into the the Atlantic Ocean 120 miles away. It's not considered the same body of water.

My only point is that Shades of Green is not located on the Seven Seas Lagoon, rendering the statement "same body of water" not correct. That's all I'm say. That is the extent of my point.

The inanity of what is argued around here is mind bottling.

Gators are not limited to water for travel so any arguments about contiguous or non-contiguous bodies of water are moot. Its Florida, if there is water and its not enclosed in a structure you are going to get all sorts of visitors of the natural kind. Gators, Snakes, raccoons, etc... they all like water even if its chlorinated or salted. Any pets which are not protected, are large or quick enough to protect themselves are snacks.

Next we argue about mosquitoes without proper ID who cant get past the parking lot guards.

Is so friggin' difficult to understand.

@ford91exploder made a statement that is not correct. I was correcting it. I'm not sure at what point that it came across that I don't understand how gators work.

There should be signs around all bodies of water because gators are in most bodies of water and can move. HOWEVER, Shades of Green is not located on the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Interesting. One thing I think you're missing is that a bird of prey may carry a baby alligator and at some point drop it into Seven Seas Lagoon, where it can then mature and grow.

This.

I just want to say that I am extremely happy that the Swan and Dolphin did not build a fence. It gives me hope that rational decision making still exists. I am very curious about all of the other resorts- ie OKW, Ft Wilderness etc- is there now a fence around every body of water?

There were a group of permits filed the other day by Disney's internal construction company for every resort except the Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Swan and Dolphin. There is no way to know for sure what this was for but I am thinking it is for fencing. I would assume the Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary would have been done already so that's why they weren't in the permits.

The beaches at WL and FW doesn't already have it? I guess we'll learn in time if all the resort have all waterways fenced in. I don't think Disney can force the Swan, Dolphin and Four Seasons, right?

One other interesting tidbit - I've been hired as a gator double agent. Essentially, I will don an alligator costume and infiltrate various gator communities in and around WDW and find out "what they're up to" according to my personal mission statement.

Of course, you could be a gator in human garb, and this is just a clever ruse on your part to provide cover so you can report back to your reptilian puppet masters!

I would guess they're somehow contracted to do certain things. Heck, they may not even own the land anyways.

Anyone know whether fishing from the shore or decks is back at Fort Wilderness or Port Orleans - Riverside, where it was originally allowed and encouraged with pole rentals?
