Cell Phones

I have two cell phone questions/comments.

1. I had to replace 2 passes because (so I was told) they were too close to my cell phone (which I had in my purse) Has anyone else had this problem? It could also be because I put them all in the same folder to make it easier to find them. Apparently, if the black strips touch one another, they will also be demagnetized. I had never thought about it, but will be more careful in the furure!!

2.I went to make a call from the ladies room in Le Cellier, and my cell phone wouldn't work. I had to go outside to use it. Since I would never use it in an attraction, I don't know if this was because of the building materials , all of the equipment inside an attraction, or if Disney has a way of blocking signals while inside buildings. Now that I think of it, I don't recall hearing a phone go off while INSIDE any buildings...I can't believe that everyone is thoughtful enough to turn their phones off!

I haven't had a problem with my passes, but I have with my room key getting to close to my cell phone.

I've used my phone in The Land, WOL and haven't had a problem.

Thanks! Then I suppose it had to do with the "density" of that particular building...I was in "The Cellar" after all! ;)

Room key! I knew about charge cards, but hadn't thought about room keys, either. I guess every new technology brings a new set of problems with it! ;)

As far as cell phone(s) not working in certain area it deals with them being a "dead" zone. Which not only happens with CellPhones but pagers to. TomorrowLand is famous for it. My pager does not work in that area at all so if friends, family page me during that time I will not recieve it. The problem I believe falls under either 2 things the first being the providers coverage area. 2 the amount of Electromagnectic in the area just covers over the devices.3 could be those hitchiking ghosts ;)

I noticed that my cell phone did not work at some places in WDW. Although the coolest place that it worked was on the Tower of Terror, right before we dropped my phone rang. I felt aweful that I forgot to turn it off.

1.) I had a similar problem with my park passes being too close to my pager a while ago..so I think the problem would also occur with cell phones. The problem is Magnets....grrrr

2.) My phone has worked in almost all corners of WDW..EXCEPT MGM...I never get ANY reception there..and I have no idea why.....

Tomorowland???

Maybe the trouble in tomorowland has to do with the fact that it is outlined in a big magnetic field...that is how the TTA works...Magnets!!

I have had issues with my digital phone at WDW for years. The problem occues all over the property. The ASR - Music is the worst. The phone will not work inside the rooms. There are a lot of dead areas in the parks as well. I always assumed that it was a tower coverage issue with WDW property being so large and having no towers on it...

Never had a pass or a room key demagnetize though.

We, too, had passes not work after being too close to our cell phone. It was the first question the CM asked when our pass wouldn't allow us into the park.
Keep them far apart.
I've never had trouble with a cell phone signal anywhere I've wanted to use it.

I have mine always on silent or off whenever I am at the park. I always talk outside.

I leave my phones (yes..I need 2 for work and look like a geek with both of them clipped on me...LOL) in the car most of the time when I hit the parks...I have had issues with room keys (going dead) cause of the cell/pcs/digital phones....so I put my room key in my other pocket away from the phones...it works..;)

Ive never had a problem with the passes and my cell phone, but thats prob cuz i usually keep them in seperate pockets or my pass in my wallet. But as far as reception goes, i lose it in most of the attraction building, except PoC, I know because (my friend and I had our own boat, a very uncrowded day) so I called one of my friends from inside PoC and it worked great, but my friend was wondering why there were pirates yelling at me in the background

I just leave the phone in the safe in the room. When I'm on vacation, I don't like people to bother me. When I get back to the hotel I call them.

Normally, I would do the same. However, I had to make the choice to be constantly "on call", or cancel the whole visit. I opted to tote the cell phone. As it was (figures) I missed an important call while out of range....although I still arrived home in time.

I spent a week with my hotel key, passes for WDW and USF and my cell phone all bundled together in my pack and had zero problems with any of them

Also, open air reception didn't seem to be a problem anywhere.

You were very lucky. If this happens, you have to go get new passes reissued. The CMs let us go on into the park after it happened and we went back to our resort to get new passes later...but that was before 9/11. They may not be able to do that anymore. I would certainly never carry my passes in the same purse or bag as my cell phone again.
