I am also changing the phone, I love my Samsung, but I get a new one with the new plan, so why not? I am planning on getting the Samsung S-300 which is almost identical to the Samsung Blue. It also comes with two screens, but in colors and it´s in the GSM system. GSM is not that good here yet as some areas are still not fully covered (roads and such) but I rarely go on the road, so in the city, it should be fine.

QUESTION: has anyone heard of how is the Samsung S-300 I am planning to get? I need info about it before I take it for the following 18 months in the GSM system.

Thanks in advance! :)
Maria -- from what I can tell, GSM service is the way to go for the future. Yes, right now service might be not as great in some areas, but GSM towers are going up left and right. Even with one bar of service, I still get crystal clear calls with my Motorola. Plus, GSM is global.

Sprints customer service may suck, their billing practices may be shady (not for me though, THANKS FCC!!), but they do provide the best coverage areas.

Have to agree. My only problem is on one side of my house I'm in plan & the other I'm Roaming. (and they just upgraded the cell 1 mile from my house).

I have T-Mobile. Free roaming and long distance.:D

I used to (up until last month) have their $19.99 / month plan. I decided to change though because I learned.. the hard way... that I talk too much on my cell phone. My bills would come to over $50 a pop... and when you work at the Disney Store, that can be sometimes about a one weeks pay. That plan included 60 ANYTIME and 500 WEEKEND minutes. I also paid $3.99 a month for 300 textmessages. It was a good deal...

Now I have their $29.99 / month plan along with the additional $3.99 for the 300 text messages. This plan includes 300 ANYTIME minutes and unlimited WEEKEND minutes.

Thank you Tyler! I think the same... GSM is the way to go and actually, they are charging less on GSM plans than in the TDMA plans because they want everyone to eventually switch.
I looked up the phone I want and I got good reviews! http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=216 I think I´ll get it. ;)

Well... I did it! I am now the proud owner of a brand new Samsung SGH-S300M phone. :D
I switched to GSM, but I haven´t got many calls yet, so I haven´t experienced the wonders of the new system - lol
It´s gonna take me forever to copy the 180 entries on my old phone´s agenda... BUT, this new one has a chip, so I won´t have to do that again! LOL ;)

SIM cards are *GREAT*... depending on how your phone operates, you'll want to make sure you back up your contacts from your phone memory to the SIM card regularly. When my old phone died, I ended up losing a few contacts because I forgot to back it up. Thankfully, I still had the main bunch, so all was well. :)

I actually heard there is yet another newer technology that cellular companies will be using that is a build up of the older CDMA service. All the cell towers my husband works on (and builds) were changed from CDMA to TDMA to GSM and in the next couple years will be adding this upgraded CDMA service. :brick: :brick: (Enough to keep him employed, but drive him crazy at the same time!!! :hammer: :hammer: )

A lot of the companies won't even sell phones or repair phones that use the TDMA service. I have to get a new phone in October or November because Cingular is "forcing" employees to upgrade their phones. I hope I can find a reaonable one since we have to buy a phone to use on the employee plan. :fork: :drevil:
