  • First Impressions
    • I was definitely worried there would be burn out of having a second round with a more niche idea. Almost scrapped the prompt entirely and used my back up “non-theme park ride” prompt (Do a Kingdom Hearts style crossover between video game franchise and animation studio). But there seemed to be enough people having fun with the idea last Voyage that the excitement could carry a second go around. Or at least the ability to work with a different subject matter aside from a theme park attraction would be enough of a change of pace to energize the team a bit to do some extra details aside from the story even if they didn’t care about the story. Unfortunately I kind of overestimated the level of excitement there was and wound up with a very burnt out team that struggled here. Hopefully the next Voyage being more traditional fare will help re-energize the team and if there is anything I can do to help let me know.
    • That being said, even with the burn out, the final project turned out great! Once Tiki and Disney Man locked in they LOCKED IN with the writing. It might be essentially just a Nostalgia Critic Fan Fiction more than anything, but it is legitimately REALLY GOOD Nostalgia Critic fan fiction! With Bee doing a great job finding meaningful ways to contribute even without having interest in writing on this topic any longer.
    • The connection to the ride itself is a little thin considering the prompt was to adapt the ride, but also I feel the connection you had was a really clever one (using the ride and its mixed legacy as the inspiration for the movie getting a sequel). And the alternate timeline you started in Voyage Four was continued here brilliantly in a way that grounds all the insanity. This feels like a real thing that could really happen. Considering the urge for things to never end in the current creative landscape (especially with online entertainment, Red vs Blue has 20 seasons and was still releasing episodes as of December of last year though technically that is just turning the last season which was originally released as a movie into traditional episodes so the show might be over and ended in 2024, but I am doubtful it won’t be back when whatever remains of Rooster Teeth needs more money), it is really nice to think of how to give a proper finale to one of most influential and well known pioneers of YouTube. An ending that both honors the good and acts as an apology of sorts for the bad. An ending that any creative venture would be lucky to have.
    • I am definitely talking more in the intro part of the review than normal simply because this is not an easy review to write. Usually with armchair imagineering (even when working on projects that aren’t theme park attractions) the projects are some form of “Here is my idea and here is the extended elevator pitch of it and here are some bells/whistles to help it stand out” which means that for reviews I can talk about not just the idea itself but also how well the presentation, writing, art, bells, whistles, etc sell the idea. It doesn’t matter much if a drawing is high quality as long as it can help sell the concept. But with this project it is a little different because largely the writing IS the concept. Yes it is pitching a movie and I can critique how well it pitches it as a movie. But largely this is a writing project more than an extended elevator pitch. Which is tougher to review especially because, frankly, it is written by people who are better writers than me. Disney Man One is one of the best writers I’ve ever seen and I’ve been waiting for Tiki to turn his final project from SAVI into an actual novella for nearly 6 years now. So, if the rest of the review is a bit bare bones I apologize and I promise to do my best. Just know that if my review seems basic that is why.
    • The presentation work here is great. Across the board the team took the criticism from the last round and ran with it. Slides helps it stand out, it is not just very readable but also really nice looking. Bits of music in the intro post. The “opening credits” style for the first few slides. I know ya’ll had planned a website but honestly I think Slides was the best way to do it. Bee, you’ve got a good eye for visuals and even if this might not be the most complex or dynamic presentation ever it is a very effective one and is exactly what it needed to be to help make the writing shine!

1771879383237.png

  • First Impressions
    • While I’m sure this team also struggled a bit with burn out from working on the same theme again, this team’s biggest issue was communication. Who was doing what was never clear. There was a lot of people asking questions but no one answering them. If someone is writing something other players need to see before they can write their parts, it goes a LONG way to help to post an outline before you start writing that way the rest of the team can start their parts based on the outline while you work on your part. If you don’t have the time/availibility/interest to finish the section you agreed to work on it helps a LOT to just send a quick message to let your team know so that way someone else can fill in for that role. It’s ok to have a busy week or a week you aren’t as into. It happens to everyone. This is a game after all and real life has to come first. But just a quick minute or two to check in and communicate goes a long way to making sure things go smoother for your teammates.
    • That being said, despite the communication and availibility issues this round the final project turned out AMAZING! Making a Little Golden Book was an incredibly clever angle to take this that feels both super fun and super realistic. Plus, it is EXTREMELY rare for an armchair imagineering project to be able to result in just more or less creating what you are pitching. Some of the art is more placeholdery edits or screenshots than you’d see in a real Little Golden Book, but for the most part this just is the real thing you were pitching! Even down to it being presented as a book! That is so cool!
    • Because of the nature of this just kind of being the real book, it will also be a tough one to review. Like I mentioned in Citrus’s Review: I am definitely talking more in the intro part of the review than normal simply because this is not an easy review to write.
    • I’ll do my best to provide feedback and talk about how it works as a proof of concept for a real Little Golden Book. But really just expect a lot of “This is really cool!” I promise this being a shorter review is not a sign of it being a worse project just that I have less to say. You did great work here!
    • The presentation is what makes this project special! The visuals here are great! Not just the flip book and the edits/screenshots but also the concept art by Outbound. The whole team did a great job at understanding the assignment here and working together to make it special. The project could’ve felt really gimmicky but you nailed it in a way that made it feel genuine instead of just a cheesy gimmick. Loved the way ya’ll handled this one!

The Winner of the 40 Quarter Voyage is...

Team Cocoa & Team Citrus!

This was a round both teams struggled with in different ways, yet both teams excelled and made something incredible! I was debating who to give it to, but honestly both projects wound up being not just so distinct from each other but also so unique in format of armchair imagineering projects even compared to past non-theme park rounds where movies/plays/and games have been pitched. It isn't like comparing apples to oranges. It's like I came here to judge a fruit competition and one team brought me an expertly cooked plate or pasts while the other team gave me a perfectly baked chocolate chip cookie.
As much as I hate ties in these games both as a player and as a host, I allow myself one each season and I think this really is the best time to use it considering how well both teams did at doing what they set out to do! I'm sorry this wound up being a more challenging Voyage than expected for the players, but for me as the host it was one of the most unexpectedly fun to read! So, maybe the real winner is @Pi on my Cake lol

Remember, the Navigator of the winning team gets a Golden Pizza Moon. Granting @Architectural Guinea Pig and @Brer Panther immunity from elimination this Voyage. In addition, all previous Golden Pizza Moon Winners are immune as this is the first true elimination.

1771880038931.png

With that we come to our first elimianation. Though they are more than welcome to hop in and help with writing their own reviews as a guest judge if they want to stay involved! I'd love to have them!
Sadly, it is time to say goodbye to one of our Imagineers.

@Half/CartoonHalf/Human

You show a ton of promise and I'd love to see you play again in the future! But you never really found your footing in how to engage with your team or how to be a part of group projects throughout the game. When you clicked with a concelt like your FNAF restaurant you did great work! You just need to find a way to connect with the rest of your team more and find ways to stay involved even when working on smaller aspects of a larger picture and then you'll be a great future imagineer!

With a player eliminated, that means that all previous Pizza Moons have been used. Which means no one has immunity moving forward. Everyone is on equal footing again.

Good luck, Voyagers

Welcome to the Fourth Galaxy
n08OjF5.png

Celestial Dreamin' will be divided into 6 Wondrous Galaxies with each new Galaxy adding a new twist or element to the gameplay.

The fourth Galaxy we encounter is named: The Bigger Dreams Galaxy! It was recently leaked out/rumored that Imagineers were told to essentially scrap their plans for the Villains Land at Magic Kingdom. Not because they were bad or because the project is cancelled, but because new CEO Josh "Joshy Boy" D'Amarro wants them to Dream Bigger.

MKVILLAINS-scaled.jpg

There will be 2 Imagineering Expeditions in this galaxy with a focus on dreaming bigger! Taking what we've been told is happening and stepping it up a notch. Let's get crazy with it!

There will be at least two eliminations during this Galaxy, and this will be the last Galaxy with traditional two team gameplay. So, let's give it our all!

Now, let's take a look at our current teams!

Joshy "Josh D'Amarro" Boy wants us to dream bigger. So, let's do that!

--What you need to know--

villains-land-magic-kingdom-location-1-800x448.jpg

There are major changes on the way to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney world. Frontierland is being essentially fully redeveloped to both allow easier access to HUGE new expansion pads as well as to add in a new Cars themed area. Cars is locked in, but the big expansion pad has its plans currently a bit in flux.

YLk8kOR.png

While patents don't always fully represent the final product and only tell part of the story... From what we've seen the current plan for Villains Land is a very solid ACE Land. But they're dreaming bigger now and so should we!

--The Prompt--

cars-piston-peak-villains-land-building-locations-layout-mk-disney-wdw-1.jpg

Pitch a New Land for the Magic Kingdom in the planned space where Villains Land is expected to Open

You can keep the villains theme and put your own spin on it OR you can start fully from scratch with your own ideas!

While the Cars/Piston Peak remodel of Frontierland is set in stone, everything beyond that is up to you!

There will be one elimination at the end of this round from the losing team as well as a fabulous prize for the winning team!

--Team Navigators--

kDxdgni.png

If your team wins, the Navigator will be granted a Golden Pizza Moon and immunity from the next Elimination.

Team Citrus - @DisneyManOne
Team Cocoa - @WaltWiz1901

--When is it due?--

This project is due Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 at 11:59 pm Universal Hollywood Time
(3 am WDW Time, 2 am Six Flags over Texas Time, 5 pm the next day Tokyo Disneyland Time)

Sometimes hosting an imagineering game means wearing the best Nostalgia Critic Cosplay you can make from what's in your closet to wear while trying to sell a medium sized refrigerator. Just something to keep in mind for future hosts
Dude I can’t believe I missed my chance to see Pi the Nostalgia Critic live, this is now one of my greatest regrets in life

Good Morning, teams!

Thank you for another great Voyage! I unfortunately will be at work most of the day, but I do intend to write reviews tonight. Or at least short reviews to keep things moving with full reviews later

There will be no elimination as we have a had a few people voluntarily leave the game. We bid a fond farewell to @AceAstro, @JokersWild, and @Disney Warrior (though Warrior has said they intend to stick around for one last Voyage).

The game is coming to a close before long. This next Voyage will be our final regular team based round. I'll share more details about what is coming next tonight!

I'm sorry to get these parts in so late, but I did come up with a few bits of shopping and dining for Radiant Garden.

SHOPS

Moogle Shop
In-game, the Moogles provide the go-to place to get all that you need. And indeed, they have a shop set up here in the Radiant Garden! The Moogle Shop is where all Kingdom Hearts fans can get their own Keyblades, armor and cards; and basically any other Kingdom Hearts merch they want!

McDuck's Ship Repair
This shop kinda messes with the set timeframe of this land; as Huey, Dewey and Louie don't run a Gummi Shop until Kingdom Hearts III. But this can be handwaved as them getting prepped for that line of work here in Radiant Garden. This shop basically handles any and all Gummi Ship merch, complete with replica Gummi Blocks. Naturally, this is the "exit through the gift shop" for the Gummi Ship simulator.

DINING

Fountain Garden Inn
This cozy little spot serves as the main eatery for the area; offering all sorts of delicious food inspired by the franchise; from tropical dishes inspired by the Destiny Islands, to ice cream creations straight out of Disney Town, and even dishes inspired by Twilight Town, Traverse Town and of course, the Radiant Garden itself. But the most notable thing about this eatery are the sandwiches; which utilize bread cut to resemble Keyblades!

Sea-Salt Ice Cream Stand
If Hogsmeade has Butterbeer, then Radiant Garden has sea-salt ice cream. This delicacy can be found at two distinct specialty stands.

As for the credits, here they are:

Land Overview - @Disney Warrior
Shopping & Dining; Battle for the Bastion - @DisneyManOne
Gummi Ship Simulator; Presentation - @Lizzy May Bee
Maleficent Coaster - @TheOriginalTiki
Original Artwork - @Brer Panther

Copying this from the private message, I believe it was not placed on the site yet.

Queue
A meandering path through a meadow / forest, leading up to a small New England townscape. Guests pass by an overhang where, overhead on screens, three clips from the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow short alternate — the “Ichabod Crane” arrival song, Ichabod and Brom Bones’ rivalry, and snippets of the Van Tassel Halloween Ball (dance only).

Ridethrough
This will be a traditional Fantasyland dark ride, harkening back to the original concept Imagineering dark rides by putting you in the shoes of the character — from the POV of the ride, you are literally Ichabod Crane.

Guests board a carriage which “gallops” (shakes slightly up and down) but is otherwise a traditional dark ride with a horse galloping effect.

Setting off, the ride begins with integrated screens (see: Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland), showing 5-sec sequences from the short set to Bing Crosby's "Ichabod Crane" song. Establishes who Ichabod is.

The ride then passes into a giant book titled "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving". Now, the narrator has left and we become Ichabod.

3.jpeg

As we pass, Crosby establishes the Halloween Party Ichabod is invited to. We pass a mirror that shows Ichabod doing his hair, implied to be us —then the carriage turn and we arrive at the outside entrance to the Van Tassel Halloween Party, lit with candlelight and Jack-o-lanterns. We pass around the back, and on the right windows can see the townspeople dancing merrily to the music. On our left the trees of the forest trees ruffle eerily. A gentle, unsettling moan seeps through the fake forest.
4.jpeg

The carriage turn inside, where the party is full of life. We briefly pass through a scene of the dance, the dancers twirling in unison, then follow on into the next room of the Halloween Party.

The lights are dimmed. Against an entirely silhouetted, abstract black cut-outs of the townspeople, is one lone animatronic of Brom Bones, backlit, bellowing the song "the Headless Horseman".

5.jpeg

Now, gather 'round while I elucidate
On what happens outside when it gets late

There's ghosts with horns and saucer eyes
And some with fangs about this size
And there's some don't even bother to wear their skin

Ghosts are bad, but the one that's cursed
That's the Headless Horseman, he's the worst

With a hip-hip and a clippity-clop
He's out lookin' for a top to chop
So don't stop to figure out a plan
You can't reason with a headless man!

as he announces "you can't reason with a headless man!"… the doors open, the music stops, and the carriage gallops slowly into the completely dark woods.

Very atmospheric. No noise. We hear galloping in the distance… and stumble upon a gathering of reeds, hitting a log in the wind. Silence again. A howling wind jumpscare with what looks to be a face, but is only a tree. We don’t have much time to calm, though, when suddenly "Ichabod" is heard on repeat in the distance. Stumbling closer, we learn it is a croaking frog.

The tense atmosphere cools — when just as we become comfortable, the Horseman emerges, screaming!

1.gif

The ride shifts into full chase as the horses gallop away and the Horseman gives pursuit. Wind gusts imply a swinging sword behind us. The Horseman appears a few more times, trying to get us — we stumble around the forest until gathering our bearings and “make for the bridge, beyond the brook!”

6.jpeg

Crossing the bridge, the carriage slows… only to find a burning pumpkin flung at riders! BAM!

7.jpeg

We exit the giant book, as Bing Crosby tells us Ichabod was never found… he was spirited away by the Headless Horseman. Queue reprise of "with a hip-hip and a clippity-clop" finale from the short as the ride comes to a close.

Perched atop the mountain peak is Castle Maleficent, the villainous counterpart to Cinderella's Castle.

Queue
Guests meander up a rocky mountain, passing epic ruins of damaged gothic structures seemingly out of scale with guests. Passing up the mountain path, they arrive at the load station.

The load station has a similar, ruined gothic architecture to the main castle.

8.jpeg

Ridethrough

Guests board a non-suspended coaster car themed to an assortment of random items — barrels, crates, pots. It doesn't look your typical roller coaster. In the next room, the three good fairies meet us. "Oh no, this will not do!" one shouts. "A simple spell to make you fly!" — and the three wave their wands to invert the coaster, transforming it into a suspended coaster.

"Hold on to your belongings!" they cry, referring to the various enchanted crates and pots.

"Fly and distract Maleficent, so the Prince might strike his sword true"

The ride soars upward. The coaster ascends up a steep light hill, seemingly in magic flight, then slowly descends into Maleficent's Castle for a brief dark ride segment. Spinning round the dungeon, we see Maleficent's orcs, who leer and boo at us.

The ride brakes at Maleficent's throne. Green flame erupts as Maleficent appears via a cleverly disguised screen projection. Green flame erupts again — on the left, then right sides of the coaster — shaking the ride system, but we remain undaunted.

9.jpeg

"So be it. Now shall you deal with ME, O Fools — and all the powers of HELL!"

The coaster brake releases and we descend towards Maleficent, who vanishes in green flame. We descend down a black pit, and the coaster loops about in total darkness.Treading through the destroyed castle, Maleficent's dragon form roars at us, while an animatronic of just her claw breaks through and tries to grab us. Spinning again, Maleficent's tail drops down and snags at us. Just as we feel safe, Maleficent's dragon head roars through a window, and the coaster drops again through a narrow passage.

The coaster slows before entering a dramatic finale showbuilding, partly transitioning into a dark ride. The finale showbuilding is staggering in scale, over 30 feet tall, hidden behind the mountain. Above, Prince Phillip is fighting a giant, 20-foot-plus Maleficent dragon animatronic (a scale similar to that of the T-Rex battle in Jurassic Park River Adventure), as the dragon roars green flame.

2.jpeg

The coaster takes a brief, small launch forward taunting the massive dragon. Maleficent turns her draconian head to us and shoots out gray mist, but the distraction is all we needed. Turning away out of the showroom, we see Prince Phillip's sword hold true against the dragon, as Maleficent roars and explodes into nothingness.

Passing through another narrow passageway, music from Sleeping Beauty's finale fills the room, and through a stained glass window, we see Aurora wake and live happily ever after.

"And just in time too," the good fairies says, as the crates and pots flip back into posture, the spell having worn off.

Uhhh… it's a good thing we defeated Maleficent when we did! That wasn't very insightful planning on the fairies' part! But hey, we made it!

The coaster returns to the load station as cast members clap and congratulate us for our bravery.

I will be sending out messages shortly (the forum does not like bulk message sending so might be over the next 24 Hours) in every diary room to every remaining player. These messages will ask 3 questions: What is your proudest moment of the game thus far? If selected as a finalist, would you have the interest/availability to move on? Who would you nominate for a Platinum Pizza Moon?

2 Players will be awarded Platinum Pizza Moons based on their performance thus far in the competition as a whole.

In addition, one player from the winning team of Voyage #07 will be granted a

An ACE Land is for cowards and whoever wrote the ACE Land prompt is a fool

--What you need to know--

mAj5a05.png

There Remember back in the Third Voyage where I said a good way to make a balanced land was what I call the "ACE Model" where you give the land an A-Ticket, a C-Ticket, and an E-Ticket? Well I was a small minded fool! A FOOL!

rxQm8g1.png

While ACE Lands are all well and good, we're dreaming bigger! ACE Lands are out! ABCDE Lands are in!

--The Prompt--

CBzIZKA.jpeg

Pitch a New Land for Disney Adventure World using the ABCDE Model

You can demolish or change whatever you would like in the park, but there is a third land size expansion pad already set up along the new lake. The current rumor is Avatar or Star Wars, but you are not required to use either of those. Nor are you required to make it a single IP Land. You don't need to base it around IP at all if you don't want to!

The only requirement is that your land must have exactly 5 attractions.

An A-Ticket, a B-Ticket, a C-Ticket, a D-Ticket, and an E-Ticket

Disney Studios Parc Paris has historically always been considered the worst theme park Disney has ever built. It reopens as Disney adventure World later this month as a part of a big effort to change that reputation. No park has ever needed a win more than this one. So, give it something great!

jRloM1s.jpeg

There will be one elimination at the end of this round and the elimination can be from either team. One member of the winning team will be granted a Platinum Pizza Moon.

--Team Navigators--

If your team wins, the Navigator will be granted a Golden Pizza Moon and with it immunity from this Voyage's Elimination.

  • First Impressions
    • Huge Kingdom Hearts fan here so I was really excited to see the team go all out with the franchise! I've seen it used before but almost always focused around Traverse Town or as a single attraction. Using it as a backdoor to a different take on a villains land was a great idea and using Radiant Garden as a setting to avoid being too specific to any one spot in the lore was brilliant. I think you did a great job across the board including a lot of fan service without it seeming overwhelming to newcomers. For as much as we all joke about how needlessly complex Kingdom Hearts can be, the core story is heroes using the power of light and friendship to fight villains (often Disney villains). That's a very accessible idea. The mix of anime/jrpg influences with generic European fantasy tropes is a very easy concept to sell people on while still feeling unique!
    • Of course, it sadly has to be pointed out that the project has some gaps missing. But I won't hold it against anyone that this was a bit of a rough week timing wise for the players. Luckily, while some bits are rushed the only fully missing bit is just an interactive game. while that would have been a great way to round out the land it isn't a deal breaker. (Plus, from a lore perspective the Chain of Memories themed addition being "forgotten" is really funny lol)
  • Presentation - Bee
    • The slideshow presentation absolutely elevated the project. The visuals might not be the most complex presentation ever, but it is very effective at adding some nice flair. Perfect balance between text/visuals on the slides. Whole thing is very well put together. Love it!
  • Artwork - Panther
    • Always love some good visuals! You have a great eye for knowing what images are needed to sell a concept. Just looking at the art alone communicates the fun, chaotic, over the top vibe that makes the games and the ride so fun!
  • Land Overview - Disney Warrior
    • Short sweet and to the point. I would have liked a bit more info here on the place setting. I might be alone here, but I honestly believe that for "land" projects the land overview or things like shopping/dining are more important than the rides. I've been spending time in Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden since I was 6 years old so it doesn't take a lot to sell me on it. But if I didn't already know what the area was like I'd love some more details. What landmarks are there? What is the architecture like? How does it transition to other lands? Music? Smells? Unique features? Roaming characters? What is the atmosphere like?
    • Again, what you have is not bad by any means. Its short, but effective and well written. I just want more of it lol
  • Shops/Dining - DisneyManOne
    • A good balance of themes here. Some more original, some more Disney, some more Final Fantasy, some more Kingdom Hearts. all of them blending multiple elements together nice and smoothly. Getting a Sea Salt ice cream and then walking through the Moogle Shop would be a childhood dream come true! But nothing too weird/specific that it couldn't have general appeal. Again, I think this whole project rode the line between fan service and general appeal very well
  • Battle for the Bastion - DisneyManOne
    • Focusing on the Final Fantasy cast fighting the villains league was a great idea. A grand crossover with chaotic fun that captures the craziness of the games! The story of the castle being restored, but the villains trying a last stand is a good spot in the lore to fit this in. I do appreciate that you avoid the Galaxy's Edge issue by not being so dedicated to fitting the lore that you miss out on the fun. This doesn't make perfect sense in the story of the games, but it is a better ride for it!
    • There are a few moments where I want to know a bit more of the practicalities of what riders are seeing. When Leon if low on health does he flash red or is there a health bar or does he just look tired? When the ride vehicle casts a spell what does that look like? A little bit more on the practical side can go a long way to making it feel real!
    • The finale is so much fun! Maybe slightly overboard, but from your write up I'm picturing the majority on screens and projectors or very simple figures so doesn't cross the line into being unrealistic. Just maybe a bit unfocused, but also that is part of the fun! You capture the insanity that made the game catch on and drew people to it in the first place!
  • Gummi Ship: Blast Away! - Bee
    • Very fun way to round out the land! Love the addition of designing your ship (or voting on the design at least). Whole experience feels like the best parts of Millenium Falcon and Test Track 2.0 mashed up with a bit more of a competitive edge! Part of me would've liked a bit more detail, but honestly what you have sells the idea and as the guy needing to write these reviews I appreciate not having a lot of filler added to sift through lol. sometime keeping the write up focused is best.
  • Duel of Destiny - Tiki
    • I know there was some struggles with writers block and finding the time this week leading to the write up being a bit more rushed than planned. As well as some communication issues leading to some overlap with this and Battle of the Bastion. But despite that I still think the ride is great! It is a bit more of a book report than I'd usually like, but it keeps the focus on the exciting battles/monsters rather than on the plot so it being a book report doesn't hold it back. Instead it adds to it. I even think that it is better without your planned Maleficent fight as now it feels very focused on Sora/Riku and has that building emotional core and story arc told simply through the ride. The effects are simple yet effective with high tech animatronics used to great effect when needed. It is a great dark ride/coaster hybrid. I like the focus on KH originals compared to Battle of Bastion focusing on Disney/Final Fantasy. Makes them both feel very unique when I was worried they'd feel very samey during brainstorming.
    • The write up does feel more like a first draft that needs a second pass to clean it up, but I won't really hold that against you considering the issues faced this week. In many ways I almost think the limitations helped as it forced you to have a very focused write up. I might even say that your write up was simple and clean :P

  • First Impressions
    • So, elephant in the room right off the bat. This feels less like one project with a cohesive vision and more like 3 seperate projects worked on at the same time (4 if you count the Critter Canyon redo). I like the idea of a Fantasy Springs style mash up land, but Fantasy Springs uses similar tones/vibes as well as the overarching story to tie it all together. These different areas don't really have that. There's some minor issues here and there I'll discuss as we go, but I wanted to get this out of the way up front because for the most part ya'll killed it looking at the different areas in a vaccuum! This team is overflowing with talent! The only thing really holding you back is the lack of cohesion here. Focusing on any one of the three main lands you made would have likely resulted in a stronger project.
    • That being said, with the last few rounds being more narrow in scope, I definitely understand having a lot of creative energy built up you wanted to let out! And I definitely appreciate that everyone had passions they wanted to pursue!
    • also, there are a LOT of things here. I'm going to make sure everything gets a shoutout. But if I miss something let me know. And I apologize if some comments are shorter. A short review isn't a mark against you, just means I don't have much to say aside from "very cool!"
  • Presentation/Map - AGP
    • The website is fantastic and with how broad the scope of this project was this helped a LOT to keep everything clear. It never felt overwhelming to read and it was always clear and easy to follow. Plus, a well made presentation always makes it more pleasant to read
    • I know you were a bit down on the map and had bigger plans for it, but honestly I still think it looks great! Everything is easy to follow. There is a lot of "show don't tell" at play with your map going a long way towards making everything feel more real and grounded! I love how naturally the paths weave around the land. It just screams "EXPLORE ME!"
  • Northuldra: World of Frozen
    • Area Overview -AGP
      • I think Frozen 2 is just begging for a theme park presence! While I have some issues with the script of that movie it absolutely nailed how I wanted Frozen to expand its world and the mystical forest is one I would love to explore that would lend itself so well to a land/attractions! The way you make sure every element has a bit of a presence in some way was very clever. shows the thought and care you have for this. Plus, a good transition between Fantasyland and the Frontiers of fantasy as it fits pretty equally into both while still feeling unique and standing on its own!
    • Frozen: Spirit of Ahtohallan - AGP
      • A trackless dark ride through the cave of frozen memories as an excuse to have a bit of a "clip show" of big moments from Frozen 1 & 2 was really fun! I worry that might feel a bit disjointed as an experience, but would be a very fun spectacle and sometimes spectacle matters more for a ride than cohesion. Plus, I like using trackless ride tech to have the ride vehicles dance through scenes almost blending flat ride and dark ride together! Probably one of the most underrated ways to use the tech
    • Bruni's Trail of Fire - AGP
      • I always love a good interactive walkthrough! a fire version of Moana's is a perfect fit here and would be a ton of fun
    • Gale's Whirlwing Adventure - AGP
      • Good addition of a flat ride. Magic Kingdom could use some more small attractions like this that appeal to kids. Plus, the way it plays with the element and the environment is a nice touch
    • Nokk's Torrent - AGP
      • Another great flat ride! Love the concept here and think it would add a nice thrill element to the land. Plus, the water effects would be a good way to cool down after a hot day.
    • Earth Giant Encounter - AGP
      • Little touches like this go such a long way to making a land feel alive! This is the kind of magic that makes kids believe that dreams come true here!
    • Northuldra Cafe - Priest
      • Fantastic menu! I always love the care and attention to detail and research you put into your work! One Venison Stew, please! I would like to see a bit more about the restaurant itself. The menu is fantastic, but what kind of building is it served in? Is there a story here? Touches like that can really elevate a land!
    • Northuldra Village Shoppe - Priest
      • Very solid gift shop! Love the subtle earth, wind, and fire reference lol
  • Beyond Big thunder
    • Area Overview - Walt Wiz
      • A more fantastical/tall tale expansion of Frontierland is a super fun idea! I love the idea of this! A good balance between the wonders of nature and some whimsical Disney touches.
    • Folktale forest - Walt Wiz
      • Always love a good walkthrough with some fun interactive elements! this was a great way to fill the niche left behind by losing Tom sawyer Island while keeping it more exciting and practical for a modern theme park!
    • Tod & Copper's Forest Frolic - Walt Wiz
      • Busy Buggies/Heimlich Chew Chew Train is such an underrated ride type imo. I love the very low key environmental journey this kind of ride can take guests on! Using this as a very simple, charming Fox & the Hound ride was a great pull. You don't see things this small given the spotlight in armchair imagineering, but the quiant experiences like this do a LOT to make a day at Disney feel complete. Often the quaint small stuff is my favorite
    • Tiana's Bayou Jubilee - Walt Wiz
      • This is where you start to lose me a little bit. It seems like a lot of time and effort to make some marginal improvements that feel disconnected from the main project.
      • I should preface that your Tiana ride is not bad at all. You did a good job!
      • That being said this is stated as a direct response to TBA which invites direct comparison in a way I usually wouldn't do. But you set it up as a direct comparison.
      • The big pro here is definitely adding in Facilier and a bit more conflict to the story. Plus, in general this sounds like a great ride! I'm not someone who thinks that is a real issue with TBA as the ride has such a fun vibe that it turns the big drop from a scare/thrill to almost feeling like a fun celebration. Reminds me of Mission Breakout vs ToT where it takes the same ride element but plays it so differently that it might not work the way it once did but it has its own way where it still works fantastically. But that's just me. I know the lack of Facilier is a divisive decision and with him being one of the best villains ever it is good to include him.
      • The con is losing how original the ride feels. TBA tells a new story with some new songs and new characters that expands the world of the movie. Whereas this version feels much more like a book report ride. So, while you capture the movie better you don't elevate or expand on it.
      • Pros and cons here.
      • Ironically, I feel TBA with its heavier bayou/critter focus would be a better fit for Folklore Forest. This suffers from the same issue as TBA where it feels like a better fit for Disneyland than it does here. Though a bit more of a focus in the write up on the facade might help.
      • All that said, judging TBJ on its own without comparisons to TBA, I think you did a great job! I usually advise against book reports, but PatF lends itself really well to a ride so it works well and the ride system would be a cool way to add a twist to it!
    • Tiana's Palace - Walt Wiz
      • Love cajun food. Love an animatronic band. Great fit! Though I worry the grand restaurant seen in the film might be an odd fit here in the quaint fantasy frontier forest. But I'm willing to overlook that because come one who wouldn't want to eat at Tiana's!
    • Johnny Appleseed Orchards - Priest
      • Very fun idea for a food stand! Perfect fit!
    • Folk Tale Shop - Priest
      • Love the joke about the 50XL Size Paul Bunyan shirt lol. those kind of little touches go a lot to making a theme park a fun place to be
  • Critter Canyon
    • Splash Mountain 3.0 - Walt Wiz
      • As a quick aside, if you are using ideas "inspired" by other users please like their post or include what was inspired. That way I know who gets credit. I don't want to write off anything you did as someone else's work because that isn't fair to you. But I also don't want to give you credit for what someone else did because that's not fair to other players. Just a minor note before we get into it
      • That being said this is a good new Splash Mountain that seems tailor made for Frontierland! I definitely don't think there's any need to get rid of TBA as it regularly draws huge crowds even if some people online complain about it, but I understand the desire to do a bigger Tiana ride and make something that feels more fitting next to Thunder Mountain. I don't think anyone but people unhealthily obssessed with splash mountain would call TBA an Imagination 2.0 level failure that needs to be replaced immediately
      • Again though, I'm only comparing or nitpicking because you built this as a response to TBA. These are the kind of things I usually wouldn't care about, but when your write up starts with the comparison then the comparison becomes fair game.
      • In vacuum, this sounds like a delightful ride. Fun critter cowboy adventure log flume. A bit too much like just "Splash Mountain but now they're cowboys" rather than its own unique concept that could stand on its own (even keeping many of the same gags), but also it does keep the good of Splash while removing the problematic elements.
      • The two big issues really do just boil down to the lack of clear crediting making it tough to judge in a competition.
      • And that this is all entirely unconnected to the rest of the project which already felt scattered already.
      • This section of the project about Splash Mountain 3.0/Critter Canyon is entirely disconnected from your team's land. From what I could tell from brainstorming and what it seems like from reading it, this whole section only exists to add a Tiana ride to Frontiers of Fantasy. And based on your brainstorming and what it seems like from reading it, it seems like the new Tiana ride only exists so you could redo TBA because you don't see it as a proper successor to Splash. Which to me begs the question of why have any of this when your project is already so big? Why build a new Tiana ride in your critter land just so you can replace the Tiana ride with a critter ride? Why not just put a non-log flume version of Critter Canyon in Frontiers of Fantasy and cut out several steps? Plus, I don't feel any passion FOR your ideas here just passion against things. The Tiana ride is a book report with very little detail and you Splash 3.0 is someone else's idea. I want you to write what you love and what you're passionate about! You're a great writer and a very creative imagineer! You've done incredible work all season! Heck, in this very project I consider Tod & Copper's Forest Frolic and the Folklore Forest walkthrough to be some of the highlights of project full of great work by some of the best on the forum! You've been killing it this season! But this felt more like an old grudge rather than a something you were passionate about.
      • Last thing, I found the twitter thread you were inspired by and it really is just mostly copy and pasted. You even included the character Big Daddy in one of your scenes but didn't introduce him earlier or at all. Probably because it was copy and pasted. Reviews take a long time especially when you already have a large project. Please don't waste my time having me review some random person on twitter's write up. You're better than that. At least make it clear that nothing in that section is the work/idea of your own or anyone else in this game so I know to just skip it because "inspired by" doesn't mean copy pasted
    • Critter Outpost - Priest
      • I've always thought this was the cutest shop is both the Briar Patch and the Co-Op versions! glad to see it survive as it is always good to have a cozy spot to buy plush toys
  • The Shadowlands
    • Love the idea of the Villains Land as a dark counterpart to Fantasyland! I think the decision to make it more of an eclectic mash up rather than a single immersive space was a good call. It gives you a lot of freedom with how you use the space. Plus, you did a good job keeping the vibe consistent which goes a long way to making a land feel like one complete whole!
    • Ratigan's Parlor - Space
      • Always love seeing the world's greatest criminal mind get the spotlight! The clockwork theming is incredible and would give this such a unique atmoshpere! I love that you keep it classy, but also still very heavily themed and over the top. You ride that line well between feeling like a cartoon and feeling like a place for adults. Also a fantastically well themed menu. London Fog Pasta for me please!
    • Castle Maleficent - Outbound
      • This is not the first time I've seen a Maleficent coaster on these forums and I doubt it will be the last. It is one of those ideas that is just so perfect that it is impossible to resist even if it is not the most unique. That being said I'm a big believe that it doesn't matter if someone else has done it because everyone brings their own creative spark when they make something. It might be the same one sentence pitch, but that doesn't make it the same ride. And I'm happy to report that you brought your own personal touch to this and made it feel special!
      • The transition from standard to inverted coaster is such a great "Wow!" moment!
      • I love that the story is kept simple with the effects/showscenes happening without breaking the flow of the ride (aside from the one scene with Maleficent, but sometimes you need a showstopper moment!). There is a good balance of exciting set pieces and fun coaster elements. Overall just a really fun coaster!
    • The River Styx: Villainous Voyage - T Cool
      • Ooooooh I really love the queu/pre-show with the Fates. Plus the facade would be such a fun over the top icon for the land!
      • The villain mash up you have here is so fun with some really clever pulls. I love keeping it set in the Underworld and playing with that setting. The Gem Mines of Despair scene feels like a particular stand out! And its always good to see Black Cauldron representation!
      • There are a lot of great scenes and stand out moments! Every sequence has something awesome here! My only nitpick is that the last scene feels a bit like an anti-climax. Feels like the ride just ends.
      • That being said that would be a bigger issue in other rides, but less so here as it is more of a tour through the Underworld showcasing the villains rather than a story/adventure. And I can't think of a better showcase for Hades than boasting while giving flaming thumbs up while his minions steal from other villains lol
    • Frollo's Frenzy - Space
      • Right off the bat I want to praise the theatrical look and the "dark, twisted storybook come to life" facade and how it blends to the area. Love the placesetting!
      • Always appreciate a good map like you have here. Plus scents for the queue!
      • With the scale of this project I appreciate the abbreviated write up. Keeps the focus on the land as a whole and keeps this feeling as a support attraction the way a C-Ticket should be. Smart move to keep it simple/focused.
      • Also, love a busbar dark ride!
      • You wear the Mr. Toad inspiration on your sleeve here lol. but that works since WDW doesn't have a Toad and you manage to make it distinct enough to feel unique still! If I had never ridden Mr Toad to see the inspiration, this would still fully work and stand on its own as a manic yet darkly fun attraction!
    • Headless Horseman - Outbound
      • Loving the facade giving it a "lost in the woods" vibe. Plus the dedication to classic design principles without ignoring progress made elevate this a lot. Love the galloping ride vehicles!
      • The staging of the Brom Bones song is such a great visual!
      • This would be a great scary ride for older guests (and some brave kids) to round out the darker land! I love using the villains land as an excuse to go all in on a tone you wouldn't normally get from Disney
    • De Vil Drift - Space
      • As always, great writing establishing the space. The queue has so much going on yet never feels overwhelming. It feels like a lived in space.
      • I always love an indoor flat ride as a concept. Get the thrill but then elevate it with effects like the blizzard to make it stand out. Plus, this is a fun ride type I'd love to see used more.
    • Queen's Royal Labyrinth - Space
      • Love an intentionally jarring transition. Making the attraction feel "wrong" on purpose can be such effective storytelling!
      • This is so much darker than I was expecting and I love it. I saw this pitched and had mentally just written it off as a clone which would still be neat, but I was so happy when I read it and saw how much you elevated the concept! Maybe unrealistic for Disney to do, but I'm more than willing to overlook realism with how cool it is. Plus, it is tucked away in the back of the park in a villains land allowing it more freedom to do something different. I'm glad you took advantage of that freedom! Loved the passion here!
  • Final thoughts
    • This project was at its best when the team's passion was on full display! How alive Northuldra felt, the quaintness of Folklore Forest, the dark, scary, larger than life adventures of the Shadowlands. When the project was good it was great! The big thing holding it back was focus. Any one of the three lands could have been the whole project. But like I said I won't hold it against you for wanting to go all out after two more limited rounds.

The Winner of the Villainous Voyage is...

Team Cocoa!

This was a very close round. The very tight focus of Radiant Garden vs the very board scope of Frontiers of Fantasy? Ultimately while Radiant Garden did more to feel like a single cohesive land and had some stand out moments, I decided that the highs of Shadowlands and how alive their mini-lands felt was enough to push Cocoa over the finish line!

Remember, messages have already been sent out asking for nominations for Platinum Pizza Moons based on the game so far including the Sixth Voyage! And there will also be another Platinum Pizza Moon awarded based specifically on The Seventh Voyage which just began last night

Good luck, Voyagers

you make excellent points here and even I feel like, in both retrospect and practice, that was the weakest of my contributions in this expedition and the game in general. probably should've just linked to the original thread and spared myself the trouble of rehashing it on the site (especially since the majority of my handiwork was put up over the course of the night of our deadline - time that would've been much better off used to go into more detail on the Tiana ride).

on second thought, maybe the expense of putting Tiana in BBT and retheming Splash again wasn't a super mandatory thing to include or delve into; one film I expressed interest in using for one attraction early in the brainstorming phase was Brother Bear, and committing to that instead probably would've gelled with the rest of BBT just a bit better
