I stayed at CBR for 2 nights in a pirate room right after they opened and once before in a regular room in 2004. We've booked there for the end of June. I know it's been a while since they've had a refurb so I was wondering about how the resort was looking right now if you've stayed in say the last 6-12 months. I've stayed at all the moderates and I'm not the only one of our extended family going so changing resorts isn't an option, just want to know what I'm in for. Choosing this one was a compromise between those who wanted to stay at the allstars vs those who wanted to stay moderate, CBR had the best room rate which broke the tie on the choice. Thanks :)

Not last 6 or 12, but withing the past 18 months. I was there in August 2011. I know it gets a bad rap a lot, but I'd certainly stay there again. We enjoyed it both times.

There was nothing about the stay that I didn't enjoy, with one exception. The food court. It's very small, and gets crowded quickly. Also, I had a pretty bad experience with the kitchens there falling behind and the food not being so great.

The rooms, however, were great!

Loved CBR in October 2009 and December 2012. Stayed in Aruba and Jamaica near the footbridge - our favorite location.
Aruba and Jamaica are the best spots, I think. The bridge means a quick walk to Port Royal, and they also tend to be among the first and last stops in the bus order, so you don't spend a lot of time toodling around CBR in the bus when leaving for a park.

Another fun thing to do is to watch the Illuminations fireworks from the pool. Also, though I knocked the food court earlier, I will say that Shutters (the sit down restaurant there) is quite good. I've eaten there three times and the kid and I both thoroughly enjoyed it.

ok...breathing a little easier lol.

If you can't change the resort due to your travel plans, but you can urge room requests, I would recommend putting in a request for Aruba or Jamacia. I would aim for buildings 51 or 45, and use the Jamaica bus stop.

I have stayed in 53 and 42, and loved them both.

The Pirate Rooms are in Trinidad South...the furthest from Port Royal and really isolated on the property.

Here's a map...

We last stayed at CBR in June. We have always stayed at Martinique and have enjoyed the experience. They are always working on something at CBR, sprucing it up, painting, scraping, mowing, trimming. We will be back there in 9 days :)

I absolutely hate CBR (though it is very pretty) because I can not stand how spread out it is and how dependent you are on the busses, just to get you to breakfast. I avoid it at all costs but have stayed here last year and about 5 years back because everything at Port Orleans resorts was booked up...and if you are staying in a Pirate room, you will be as far away from anything as you can possibly be and still be inside the resort limits.
That being said, there have been no changes at all -- its exactly the same as it has been for a decade -- its clean, beautifully landscaped, the people that work there are really really nice -- and its well maintained.

I'm staying there in June as well. Any idea what type of refurb is going on there? The Jamaica section is supposed to have work done for the entire month. I'm wondering if that's why I got such a good deal.

You'll enjoy Jamaica.

The bridge will be your best friend. And trust me, once you ride the bus a few times, you'll realize why I always bring up that placement of the Jamaica / Aruba stops when CBR comes up!

We need time for things to happen.
We stayed there September of last year.
You know what they say when you've got nothing good to say.
Well.

Ehhh..I'm not really good at keeping my mouth shut.
Anyway...as you can tell I'm NOT a big fan of CBR. It was our first and last stay there.
It's not like it was the worst experience, everything seemed to be maintained for the most part. In fact they were painting in our area almost the whole week we were there.
But my thought was the place could use a refurb. The decor just seems a little outdated. I'm comparing it to the PO resorts and it just doesn't compare.

With that being said, you've stayed there before, and you're not changing.
I don't think you're in for any surprises and guess what?
You're in WDW you're going to have a kick-a$$ time!

ENJOY!!
