We just returned from a 6 week vacation, so the cats are driving me crazy today. I left a shoebox on the floor and Thelma had to try it out

It comes down to the individual animal and not the species as a whole.

I live in an apartment and dogs are a huge pain to have here. Barking, needing to go out, leash laws, needing more exercise, etc. I wanted a pet though... I thought I'd hate a cat but eventually gave it a shot. After 2 minutes we were in love. She's fantastic. Totally unlike a lot of cats I've met and better than a lot of dogs.
Exactly. Not all cats are sweet angels...there's a devil cat who lives next door.

I just find that I dislike most dogs. Except for Chihuahuas and Pomeranians. Not that I really seek them out to make friends either. I can usually win over a cat, but that's because I've had cats my entire life and understand their behavior more.

AWWW!

Do they hop in your suitcase when you're trying to pack?

We leave a box out all of the time for my cat. It keeps her entertained.

See, the difference between you and me is I've owned and had cats as pets, but you've never had a dog as a pet. So I can't really take your opinions of dogs seriously. That's why I'm having a hard time with this debate with you.
For my family, a dog isn't practical. We're gone over a month out of the year, so it wouldn't be fair to an animal that naturally needs more attention. A cat is independent enough to be on its own for a period of time. Plus my father dislikes cats (he won't admit it, but ours won him over. He likes her sneak attacks), but he hates dogs. We have a good backyard for a dog, though. It's a shame. A dog could get rid of some of the chipmunks...

If I married someone who liked dogs, I'd be willing to go with a Pomeranian or a Chihuahua as long as we could also have a cat. Not a big dog. It's partially because I'm short and feel out of control with the animal. If the dog's head is above my hip, I stay as far away as possible. Generally, I don't like their unpredictable nature. A well-trained dog is fine. Some dogs jump and bark too much, and that scares me. If it comes to my knee, I'm okay as long as it isn't annoying.

Cats hit me differently Those ASPCA commercials? I see the dogs, and I feel bad for them, but the cats I want to take home, cuddle, comfort, help...it just hits differently. Straight through the heart. And I do like CERTAIN dogs, just not most of them.

I also prefer cats because something about dog slobber is just...gross

Again, this is why I can't take your argument for a cat seriously, as you've never, and probably will never, had the joy of owning a dog. At least I've owned cats.

Probably not. But you see, it's not possible. I'm only 18 and still live with my parents...I dislike dogs so much it's not exactly a joy. I have a special relationship with my kitty, and that's what I need.

You can't help that you're afraid of dogs. I'm glad you love your cat. How wouldn't you be able to tell if you find owning a dog enjoyable or not, if you've never had one? I still can't really accept your opinion. You understand why, right?

Maybe I'd enjoy a small dog. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position adopt one. I've spent time around dogs, and I know that I like cats better. Always will.
