Catching misinformation about WDW

I feel like my head is going to explode every time someone says that, both because they refer to Magic Kingdom as Disney World (meaning the other parks are just independent properties, I guess) and because they are saying Magic Kingdom isn't good for adults as well.
Everyone has their own opinions but I'm in the camp that, as an adult, MK (and WDW in general) has very little appeal to me by itself. I appreciate the artwork, design, etc. but if I didn't have kids my wife and I would not go to WDW. The "magic" is seeing my kid's faces when they go but there's no magic for my wife and I alone. We don't sit around wishing we could go to Disney by ourselves. I can promise you that if my kids never want to go to WDW again I wouldn't either.

The only defense is if the people referring to MK as WDW were around in 1971....when WDW actually was just the MK. They have an even better case if they were around for Disneyland's opening, where they referred to the park as Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom.

But if they can't claim either of those situations, their use of WDW for the MK is spleen-punching worthy :)

I don't think either of them can use that excuse, since I'm pretty sure that neither was even alive in 1971 (maybe one of them, but if so, she was a baby).

You kinda have to stretch it further then that. The only park in WDW until October of 1982 was the Magic Kingdom. Everyone that went during that time span, which would be many kids and their parents that still go there, only knew it as Walt Disney World. It is pretty much all that there was there for 10 years. That's a lot of visitors that knew it only as that.

Time to lighten up on them a little, it is actually two generations that might have known it as that. (which easily can now carry over to a third generation due to how their parents knew it) It is incorrect, but certainly not something to get ones knickers in a knot over.

Haha so funny you mention this because I watch wdw vlogs on youtube a lot and always catch things like that! I was watching one and the girl filming was in Epcot.. Called SSE the Space Ball!!! Ughh! Lol then she was in World Showcase, in ITALY... "Right now we are just walking around Germany". I was yelling at the screen! hahaha!!!!

I remember seeing one photo-album trip report where one girl hugged the Pleakley statue in Tomorrowland, with the caption "I LOVE Shrek!"
...Ohhh, lord. :banghead:

(To make me feel better, I just want to see how many of us experienced people know that it's Roy Disney sitting on the Main St. park bench with Minnie.)

You guys should try working there. Can you even imagine how many erroneous statements I had to politely correct during a 10 hour shift? Working in the Canadian pavilion I also had to correct all of the statements about Canada. (Yes, we have television, no we don't live in igloos, no we are not part of the United States, yes our money is different colours, no we do not say "a boot" when we pronounce about) You have to laugh at people's ignorance or you would curl up into a fetal position and cry.

When I vacation there now I only correct people when their mistake will affect their vacation. For example - if you want to believe that Spaceship Earth used to be called If I had Wings - go for it. If you are in line for the monorail and discussing how you hope it moves fast because you only have 20 minutes to get to your reservation at Tusker House I will jump in.

There is no difference booking 60 days out for fast passes or 30 days out. You will get the same attraction opportunities.

When I

(As a fellow teacher) Maybe you can help disneydreamer23 with her punctuation and capitalization.
. Since I have very little time I only go on this site while I am at the gym sorry I can't type perfect while running on a tread mill next time I will make sure it's correct just for you oh yeah and get over it people are dying of cancer and your worried about punctuation , grow up!

I honestly have never heard a Canadian from any province or territory pronounce that word as "a boot". I have no idea where Americans got that from. Canadians pronounce it as "a boat" and Americans pronounce it as "a-bowt"

Actually to my ear when Americans say it, it sounds like they are saying "Ab-owwwwt" or "Ab-ow-it"

Not long ago, while I was discussing my love for all things Disney with people at work, two different coworkers said something like "Disney World is ok for the kids, but my husband/wife and I liked Epcot more." I feel like my head is going to explode every time someone says that, both because they refer to Magic Kingdom as Disney World (meaning the other parks are just independent properties, I guess) and because they are saying Magic Kingdom isn't good for adults as well.
I would bet those people are more used to Disneyland.

I just find it ironic that the post is about correcting misinformation and there was not a period in the whole thing!

If Disneydreamer"23" is your age, then I have been a teacher longer than you have been alive. Besides, I'm too old and fat to post while on a treadmill. (BTW, don't joke about cancer. You never know who has been affected by that horrible disease.)

I'm a little confused. I'm not sure if you are talking about the original post, but I saw periods and such.

Well, not really misinformation about the parks, but one of my friends from high school thought that Sleeping Beauty ate the apple and did not know who Snow White was. And then she tried to argue with me about it, while my other friend sat there and said, "Why are you doing this? You had to do this...":joyfull:

To be fair, for the first 10 years, most people used "Disney World" interchangable with "Magic Kingdom". It was not until EPCOT Center opened that there was a need to refer to the parks separate from the entire resort. On the West coast, you can use Disneyland to refer to a park or the entire resort.

I would say the majority of conversations I have with people about my trips to Disney contain inaccurate suggestions/information. As well, I overhear people while I'm at WDW spouting off incorrect information to their family/friends all the time.

To be honest, I never correct them because I'm actually embarrassed about how much I DO know about Disney. It's not a normal amount of knowledge. In fact, many times I play dumb just so people don't realize how obsessed I truly am. I say things like "hmm...I'm not totally sure about this, but I don't think you can get FP+ for Test Track and Soarin' at the same time???" Or when people who have been to WDW once make suggestions about where things are and how to get from point A to point B, I say something like "yeah...that's a great idea- I'll have to think about that," while I'm sitting there thinking "Uh..that's not even kind of the best way to do it."

But, if I corrected them all every time or said things too defiantly, I think my family, friends, and co-workers would dis-own me. :(

I am a teacher at conferences a parent asked me if I was aware Disney bought universal I couldnT say much because of my job but it took a lot to just walk away

Attached is the original.
I may be getting old and not very tech savvy, but without punctuation I really did have difficulty reading it correctly.

Ha! Everyone knows it takes longer than 20 minutes to take the monorail to Tusker House. 30+ minutes I can accept, but 20 minutes is just plain ridiculous.
Ok, am I the only one thinking the Tusker House in AK? If so, AK cannot be accessed by monorail. The only way to get to AK is by bus or car. But if I misunderstood, my apologies.
