Castle Wall Performances?

Hello, I’m first time poster long time reader.
Let me first off by saying thank you, I’ve really enjoyed all the informative information in following the Fantasyland Expansion Project and all of the timely well taken pictures!:sohappy:
The Castel Wall appears to have a place on top for people to walk, I doubt that they will let guest up on it. But, I was wondering if anyone has heard if it would be accessible to cast members and if it might be partly over the utilidors so that cast members could sneak up there and look down on the crowds.
This might make for some really fun street/castle performances.

Welcome to the forums. From what I've seen (pictures only), the railing on top of the wall is really low and the wall itself is not that wide. I think cast safety would rule this out but I could be wrong.

I never understood the rational behind the Castle walls, it seemed a little crazy to me that they would build this huge new land and then wall it off from the rest of the park, to me it just like prettier versions of the construction walls that are currently there, but if they are going to have some kind of performances up there it'd at least give the walls some purpose imo

The walkways on the tops of the walls are "forced perspective" to make the walls look taller than they are and aren't big enough for people to walk on comfortably.

As for the reason for the walls, I'm not a fan of them either but they're there to distinguish the castle proper from the surrounding area (that's supposed to be outside the castle walls).

I understand the "story" of the Castle Walls, but I've just got this bad feeling that the Castle Walls may end up being like the tombstones in front of Spaceship Earth, they sounded like a clever idea, but in the end they just sort of wrecked the view

Remember that is isn't going to be some huge monolithic wall, there are going to be large opening and archways in it, so it will provide a division between the castle courtyard and Fantsayland Forest but will still allow views out into the forest.

This is the part I don't get why do they want to divide the two areas? this view is not really inviting to me...

Well, first of all...there are still construction walls up so you're not getting the "full view" of what it will look like. Secondly, I'm sure we could take pictures of random sections of beautiful areas in WDW and say that they don't look inviting.

Isn't this coming from the bathroom behind Pinocchio's Village Haus? Is it really a problem if the view from that area is less than desirable but still themed?

I really like the walls. I think it will make the area look more realistic. I also like the extra seating the walls will provide.

But why are they dividing the old from the new? I know they have a "story" for it but they also had a story for "Journey into YOUR Imagination" and in both cases the stories made sense, I just don't know how good a story it is though

At the other end of Fantasyland they knocked down the skyway to make the path wider to let more people through, but at this end they're putting up walls and archways to restrict the amount of people???

I'm sorry I just don't get the point of the wall, if they had performers on top of it would at least be useful, like the stage in front of Cinderella Castel, it's also "IN THE WAY" and "BLOCKS THE VIEW", but the stage in front of the castle does have a purpose

The Castle Wall is pretty though, but personally I'd rather be able to see Belle's Cottage in this photo than the stone wall

I hear you, but as I understand it, the basic idea isn't "story," it's thematic consistency. You know how the Aladdin spinner looks wrong in its current setting? That's what they are trying to avoid. It's like how the top level of the Columbia Harbor House hides Fantasyland from Liberty Square and the reverse. They must feel that the style of the forest area is different enough from the style of "old" Fantasyland that if you could see everything at once it would look wrong. At this stage, without seeing the finished construction, it would tough for me to guess whether I agree with them, but I think that's the idea.

I also wonder if the walls may have made more sense when you had the princess areas in the middle of the new area, instead of the Snow White coaster. The perspective of those might not have worked from a distance?

Considering the main gripe around here is that Disney is cheap or Disney doesn't do enough to hide certain things from view (Barnstormer/Dumbo building...) - I highly doubt Disney chose to spend money on a castle wall without having good reason for it. The whole idea is that you shouldnt be able to see the nice new areas from certain places, and vice versa. Being in the middle of a magical area straight out of the movies, and then be able to look right over at philharmagic, would kind of kill the theme. I think theyre trying to make these new highly themed areas out of eyeshot from the older, lesser themed areas.

Exactly. The wall gives Castle Town a better sense of place then just being left wide open to a forest where a whole 'nother village and cottage in the midst of a sudden forest that's popped up arbitrarily next to the Village Haus.

The wall fits very well into the "story" they are going for. You have Cinderella's castle, the old Fantasyland with tent like facades which represents the castle courtyard, next you have the curtain wall that surrounds the castle and courtyard, and finally Fantasyland Forest which is the countryside just outside the castle. If you didn't have the wall as a dividing line the trees and landscaping of the forest would just suddenly stop, or they would have to bring them right into the courtyard, either option would look strange.

Besides, if the dwarfs ever get ed off and decide to attack the castle, the wall gives them a good defensive positions. :animwink:

LOL @ people saying the castle walls don't make sense. If they weren't there it'd kill the multi-million dollar themeing that has taken years to build.

Although I completely agree with your second sentence. Please dont be rude by stating how you "LOL" at the opinions of others. It is okay to disagree, but such comments are simply unnecessary and not constructive to the topic. This isn't meant as a personal attack, but lately people on these boards have had trouble with the generally accepted idea of "if you dont have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
