I've been involved in theater for much of my life, and priming with silver is a method we often use to make the top color look brighter, shinier and/or more metallic.
You can do something similar on a car. They are commonly called "candy", Candy apple red being the most famous. You start with a metallic base coat which is topped off with a translucent color coat then a clear coat. Depending on how Disney does this, the spires could actually sparkle in sunlight.

Use the silver as a primer and paint all the turrets GOLD! (After all, the MK is the crowl jewel theme park in all the World!)

I know I know...everybody loves the blue.

Even though I'm not a big fan of this cake, it is nice to remember a time when would they spend some money and effort on theming and could get it done quickly. This thing only lasted a year but it was clearly a lot of work
It lasted 2 years. 1996-1998

I know its most likely a primer that they're applying to the castle but I wouldn't be opposed to a new color scheme. Maybe for the 50th? Disneyland made a change and I think it worked out for the better. No pink though...

It's been established it's a primer numerous times. And the 50th Anniversary is just a new MagicBand slider and a cupcake.
