Hi -
I've seen mention of a Castaway Cay 5K on past Navigators. Does anyone know if this is a regular event now offered on all cruises? If so, do you get a medal for doing it? Have done 2 Disney 1/2 marathons so far and it's all about getting a medal - not running anywhere without that incentive haha!
(I'm doing the 4 night on the Dream in November)

It is not a race, just an organized run.

No bibs, no time keeping, just a fun little run organized by the CM's and done early enough that you are not doging people.

DS13 & I just ran it on 9/17. We got bibs, no certificate or medal. Of the 25 or so who started out running it we were like #'s 5 & 6 to finish it and we did NOT run the whole thing. It was unGodly HOT to us. We live in a climate similar to WDW's. All summer we've been getting up at 5 a.m. to be able to be finished & inside before the sun is up enough to kill us. Literally. So what was the finish time for 2 pokey's who beat out 20 or so other people? 35:40. Go ahead and laugh. We sure did. But we finished and that was our accomplishment!

There was 1 CM there but she didn't run. She handed out bibs, outlined the course on the map, hung around near the entrance to the bike path, and got water for runners as they passed. My hubby sorta hung out with her. He came along to take pics of my son & me. When we came back out of the bike path the 2nd time onto the runway she was not there anymore. They had gone to the finish where she was calling out times and hubby could snap our pics. It was a ton of fun. I'm still uploading vacation pics but I have several from the 5k that will be in my upcoming trip report. :D

Both my wife and I ran this in the middle of July and it was hot! Someone said it was over 105 and the blacktop was a killer. Still, it was a great time and fun to see parts of the island I have never seen. On the second visit to the island on the 5 day cruise we skipped the run and went right to the beach.:sohappy:

I was contemplating running this 5k...but man I'm gonna need some proof that I exercised....voluntarily.....on vacation!

You'll have proof! Pictures! And if they're still doing the bib #'s you'll have that! I'm definitely planning to do it. I won't be sprinting to the front of the pack but I'm gonna do it...again!

I recently finished doing the P90X workout routine, and I've promised myself that I'll stay in shape and do the 5K next time I'm on the island. I'm actually looking forward to it!

I looked at a little of the P90X on YouTube a while back and it was very intimidating. All the fast movement...I'm just not that coordinated. Did you find it hard to get started with it? I hear such rave reviews about it.
