How about if your going to college near the Resort, would the money be good for a college student. I am in high school now and wanted to know what all of you think if it is good enough to get yourself on your feet during college.

If you have someone to supplement your income, like parents/guardians sending you a check every week/month/whenever, it would be OK. But working at WDW is not going to keep your head above water very well, especially if you're going to college...school really *SHOULD* come first, so your working hours are going to be somewhat limited, and you're not going to make enough at WDW to supplement your rent, tuition, books, utilities, food, gas, unexpected expenses, etc.

Working for WDW, especially in some of the more "service industry" positions, sure won't make you rich...or even even away from being poor! But college kids are too young to care and most have fun with it anyway <G>.

If you're going to be going to college, you really can't be full-time at Disney, especially in the first year, because for that first year (at least until scheduling bids come out), you can be pretty much scheduled at any time. Once you get a bucket pick, you'll be able to have a little more control over when you're working, but remember, scheduling is by seniority, and there's a bunch of people at WDW who have been here for quite a while. And seniority only builds when you're full-time, not part-time, so in order to get a good schedule to where you'd be able to do college in the mornings (or something like that), you'd really have to take a year off of college, work for Disney for that year, and then go back to college the next year (that's what I'm planning on doing).

Older Workers

Although many CM's fall into the young or semi-retired categories, I see so many people there in the prime of their working lives. These include Bellman at the resorts, bartenders, waiters, boat and monorail pilots, and others in various jobs.

I can understand putting real money on the back burner when you're young, or going to Disney after making your real money in the real world as a fun semi-retirment, but how do these people between 35 and 55 years old make a go of it?

The people that get paid very well are the people with professional positions at WDW (i.e. not working in the parks but at Team Disney, the offices at Celebration, etc.). I had a professional internship at WDW in the summer of 2000 and was getting paid $15/hour. That's why I always think it is much better for those in college to get a professional internship at WDW rather than join the college program so that you can get relevant work experience, get competitive pay, *and* get your foot in the door so that hopefully when you graduate they will offer you a full-time position.

I am considering the international CP again, I just HAVE to live up there for a while. But I really don't think I'll be able to, as I would have to send some money home to support my baby. Of course, this time the exchange rates would favor me, but I still don't know if it would be enough. How much does a person at CP make per week, or month?

unfortunately, they don't make it that easy to get in WDW as a professional. I know CM's with relevant management experience, college education, and a very good work record that have been passed up for job for someone who is a manager at the Gap with no education.

I would think that with a 4 year college degree, experince at disney(college program), and having say an internship in the career field of your choice,,that disney would gladly provide a job as long as the position and credentials are there.

By the way....There shouldnt be any cast member in the college program that is doing it just to make money. They should be doing it to put the name DISNEY on there freaking resume.

it's amazing how different things are at Disney than they are with ANY OTHER EMPLOYER ON THE PLANET

You've got a good point, but others do it too. Supply and demand is the maxim. Disney just has way too many people beating upon their doors. They don't have to offer any incentives.

Well, I'll put it to you this way. Back in 1955 at the opening of Disneyland, Walt paid scale to Art, Ronald and Bob. The pay scale at Disney has not changed at all since then.

I think I'd just do anything to live at WDW for a while... Even leaving my baby here for 3 months. But I would have to send her a bit of money every month...
