cast member training

Training is done on site by cast members who have been in that area for a certain amount of time. Qualifications to be a trainer vary greatly by area.

Before on site training, all cast members go through a Traditions class for Disney policy, history, etc.

All cast members first go through traditions. That's usually 2 days. Then they go through their local area training (MK, Epcot, DTD, etc). That's a day or 2 depending on what area they work at. Then comes their actual job training. It can take anywhere from a day to 3 weeks depending on what they do.

Traditions is now down to One day... everyone does that... for my department, you then get a Transportation Overview day... basically, you travel around Disney using various transportation modes. Then there's platform training, which is about 2 ten hour days. After you pass that, they schedule you for Drive Training... DT can run anywhere from 5-7 days, and then you have to pass a very exhausting checkout test. :)

really?!?!? that explains the latest batch of CM's.

for me it was 2 days traditions, 1 day DTD area training, 4 days DQ attractions trainnig + checkout, then I transferred to MK, and 2 days of MK area training, 4 days of attraction training, then I went to entertainment and it was 5 days of entertainment training.

not to mention classes that I have taken voluntarily

Ummm....if you scroll back up 2 posts to fantasia boi, I believe he lists his occupation as monorail pilot, which I think is the same as a driver...or pretty close!!

Many times, the training process is:

Traditions (now 1 day)

Park-specific training (1 day) such as "DAKlimation" at Animal Kingdom and "On with the Show" training at the Studios

Job-Specific Training (1-2 weeks)

Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone :)

My trainning took two weeks... honestly, I can´t remember why, but I do remember it was two weeks because I was dieing to wear my costume since I arrived! I do remember we went through an extensive Guest Relations trainning walking all the parks and resorts and going around Disney property... tiring indeed, but so worth it! :)

Of course, that was at the very beginning, because after four months, I had to go through Merchandising and Attractions when I worked inside the pavillion...

Well... that's my job. :) Although technically, we're called "Pilots" because we're flying for Disney's Highway in the Sky! (insert Oooohs and Aaahs)

It's a fun job, although it's not quite what everyone hopes or thinks. I remember when I was first applying, I thought I'd be driving the train all day... nope... lol... we end up being on the platform more than in the train... most days at least. Platforms are okay, but can get kind of boring and frustrating... like, when you're trying to move 300+ guests "All the way down" and they won't budge because they think it's full...

Anyways... enough of my ranting... hehe :) I do love my job despite all... it's a blast.

Thanks.

Oh, cool. :)

Now, is that training for a possible transfer at some point, or just offered as personal enrichment? I can't imagine they are going to start having cocktail service along the parade route. ;) :)

Thanks, btw. :)

LOL... Now that's the truth... I think they believe in, "Hire for attitude, train for skills" because it's a lot easier to teach someone how to do anything but be a nice person. :)
