Cast member concern

We were watching the Share a Dream Parade at the MK on sat 4/28 right near the very end of Main Street, when I noticed one of the mops form Fantasia wasn't doing to good. He seemed kind of out of it and not as animated as the rest of the mops. Within a few seconds of noticing him, he sat down in the middle of the parade and put his head between his knees. The handlers quickly picked him up and carried him off since he couldn't walk on his own accord. Did anyone else see this and know if all is ok with that cast member? I'm assuming nothing tragic happened since I haven't heard anything in the Disney boards. It was pretty hot that day, and I can't imaging how hot it is to be a character.

Unfortunately, not uncommon at all. Entertainment, especially parades, is a very demanding and hot role.

I wonder the same thing on hot days. Whew - I feel so bad for those guys!

It's not uncommon. I had to be carried off the parade route as Tigger before on more than on occasion.

Wow - I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often since it's so humid in FL and those costumes are so warm, mixed with a high-energy parade.

I hope the cast member was ok, but at the same time, it's sort of amusing -- to see a broom sit down with his head between his knees! Not something you see everyday

was that when you were twirling your dove kite? you were deadly with that thing!

I don't remember hitting anyone with that thing... I remember when it ended up in the water and another time in a tree though.

No, the Tigger ones were Summer '01 when all of a sudden I was getting put in as Tigger at the same time that I was ill. Like 3-4 days in a row I wasn't able to finish the parade and had to get pulled off on Main Street. I was used to it by the next week, but those few days sucked.

That really sucks! I hope that guy was ok. Like everyone else said those costumes are hot and it's really bad when you are in a costume and your sick and in the heat. Those three things together are just asking for misery.

Do you guys have a signal you give that you need to leave the parade or do you just walk off?

You walk off and explain yourself when you get off.

A CM will see you walking off and will follow you.

Do Disney characters in the parks ever wear "ice vests?" (they are exactly what the name suggests.) I once dressed up as a penguin at the Miami Zoo (don't laugh, I made alot of money). It must have been 100 degrees out there but they gave me an "ice vest" to wear under my costume. It felt awesome for about an hour, but the ice eventually melted and the water got warm. Even though it didn't keep me cool for an extremely long time, I am almost positive that I would have fainted without it.

They have them available for parades, but they're somewhat useless since they end up melting and warming up :(
