Casey's hot cheese on condiments bar?

To bring this thread back - with a bit of an explanation. A reason so simple that it must be true.

I was just at WDW with two of my friends, one of whom works in the commercial food industry - food like pre-packaged cake mixes, frozen vegetables, breads, spreads, etc (her company owns a whole bunch of brands).

We were walking through Casey's, and I mentioned that Disney has removed the hot cheese and that many people were upset about it, and she immediately replied "Oh, of course, because of the PHO's"

PHO's are partially hydrogenated oils (which are quite bad for you) and the government has a mandate that all manufacturers of food stop using them by 2016. In most cases, it's a small cost increase or a small formulation change, However, according to my friend, things such as cheese sauce, which is held at temp for a long time, and then cooled and reheated, are very difficult to formulate without PHOs. Without PHOs they become either very gritty, clumpy, or stringy. The only thing that works instead of a PHO is palm oil, but that is a LOT more expensive because of the environmental impacts of harvesting it.. According to my friend, there is a person who has started a sustainable palm farm and people are scrambling to source the oil from him because it is cheaper and greener, but the supply is not large and steady. As a result, things such as hot cheese are having supply shortages and large price increases in the industry.

So, there you go, it sounded reasonable to me when she told me all of this.

That sounds more logical than any other explanation we have heard so far.

Given how health conscious disney world is now with the food this sounds like the most significant reason. I would say the woman that was dumb enough to let her child burn itself in conjunction with this law contributed to the removal of hot cheese. Though, isnt hot cheese still avaliable for purchase at some places on property?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you get nachos and cheese at WDW now? Isn't that cheese the same as you could get at Casey's?
I believe the stuff they use now is in individualy sealed, single serving containers and can be formulated differently than the cheese that sits in a heated container.

Ah...ok. So maybe instead of offering it at the condiment bar, they provide puches upon request? I never got hot cheese, but there has to be a way for WDW to still offer this to guests...even if it's only available upon request.

They would have to sell it if they did that as the cost for the single serving packs are considerably more than what goes in a bulk pump container.
