The video that was posted of the vehicles on the track, that just looked like they were running golf cars on the track, was it actually the trackless system? Pretty sure this was just them driving on a dirt track.

What is interesting is that Disney's own coverage of this event doesn't mention the test video, unless it will get it's own video release soon, and the panel was not supposed to be recorded, so the test footage was not meant to be publicly viewed at this stage (just for those attending the panel)

With that scenario they could have had multiple timelines... Darth Vader, Luke, Han and Leia as well as the newer characters no one cares about.

We already have enough posts on how the timelines of rides don’t fit together in lands.

But it would have been ok to have an OT timeline Endor, a PT Tatoonie, and a ST whatever?

How would you even get to the different planets and not “break immersion and theme”. You would need a Universal type deal where the planets are in different parks and you need to ride a spaceship or whatever to access them. Which causes all types of issues in the Disney ecosystem that Universal doesn’t need to worry about.

Not to mention that on their own, each Star Wars environment is incredibly and purposely one note.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
It's gonna be hilarious when this closes down daily for a muddy track. But at least all the track rackers they'll need are gonna add some jobs.
Is it really going to be a muddy track though ... or some kind of solid gunnite mixture moulded to look like a rough-hewn track?

It never once occurred to me that it would be a true mud track.

I want to know who the manufacturer of the tires will be. I want their stock. With the sharp texture of the concrete track, those tires are going to wear down quickly and need frequent replacement. If it was a dirt track, there would be more slippage and less wear on the tires. They will be ordering them by the semi load. I could see several CM's working 3rd shift just replacing tires and checking the cars for any damage.

How often does Test Track have to replace its tires? Isn't that track concrete?

From what I have heard, yes they do often. But Test Track's track is steel with what looks like an anti-slip texture applied to it. The tires will grip that pretty good, minimizing wheel slippage. Now on a textured concrete track, there will be a lot of wheel spin unless your going as slow as the trucks on KS. The ride has to be thrilling, which means going fast, there will be slippage. Even with a dirt track, you can see a rooster tail of flying dirt behind the test car in the video at times from the wheel slippage. So instead of dirt flying, think tire particles instead.

The ideal scenario was multiple planets in multiple sections of the land. Like have a Tatooine area, have an Endor area, have a Death Star with a cool interior space.

Sure, but they would have needed to build something a lot bigger than Galaxy's Edge to really pull that off.

in the MK you can travel from the Caribbean to Polynesia and Arabia in a very small footprint....

The Magic Kingdom is more about a general feel than an attempt to transport you to those locations, though. It's why it's just Adventureland as a catchall.

The World Showcase is probably be a better counterexample, but Galaxy's Edge is only about the size of two pavilions. The explorable area is smaller than two pavilions; if you include the Rise and Smuggler's Run buildings as opposed to just the explorable area it's bigger than two pavilions but not that much bigger.

So maybe they could have done two planets if they still wanted it to be immersive, but there'd have to be some kind of transition/demarcation between them.
