The novelty of “this doesn’t have a track” is a gimmick.

It’s not going to have the show scenes of RSR. It’s not going to have the thrill of RSR.

It’s not going to truly “let it rip.”

They had a ride system they thought would be cool to use, and are choosing to use it, instead of building an experience, then finding an appropriate ride system.

Yep, a real Cars Land would be much better at Hollywood. I don't know what is going through these people's heads. They did the same thing with Galaxy's Edge in theming it to something we've never seen. The Movie park should have Movie stuff in it. Tatooine would have been perfect, but instead we got... what is it even called Batu???

Tatooine would have been terrible.

I'm not the biggest fan of Galaxy's Edge, but Tatooine would have been a pretty dull place to wander around and completely uninteresting visually.

While they definitely could have done better, Tatooine was never the right choice.

They made TRON and Cosmic Rewind work.

TBA is becoming more and more reliable.

But sure, use the ground track-lighting and nothing else.

Then, you're perfectly correct!!
Touting TBA's increasing reliability isn't the accolade you seem to think it is, but rather a damning example of what's wrong with many of WDI's recent projects.

MK's Splash Mountain ran for the better part of 30 years with minimal unscheduled downtime; even when it was new, I don't believe it had major issues (unlike the DL version, which had extensive delays and rework prior to opening, and reliability issues that plagued its operations on-and-off for its entire life). While the show quality left much to be desired at times, the ride itself seemed to be a pretty reliable workhorse that had minimal downtime (apart from scheduled annual refurbishments that, frankly, all attractions should have).

WDI made some updates to the scenery and soundtrack for its reincarnation into TBA, but kept the same ride path, vehicles, and general equipment from what was there previously. Presumably they needed to make some upgrades to ensure the system could continue to operate for decades to come, but the ride system itself is functionally unchanged from its prior version.

And yet they couldn't even manage to do that right. Nearly half a year after it reopened, all we can say is "it's getting better." If there was ever a time that we should expect a "new" attraction to not have ride system failures, it's when it's reusing a ride system that ran for decades without ongoing problems.

If they can't get something like that to work, it doesn't inspire much confidence for an attraction operating on new gee-wiz technology that adds almost nothing to the actual ride experience.

No
Guaranteed the bean counters internally view this as the perfect solution.

1. Gets rid of a controversial topic/area with Tom Sawyer
2. Prime real estate in the most visited theme park in the world
3. “New ride!!!” / Press boon
4. Increased merchandise potential

Of course the bean counters don’t care about thematic consistency, story telling, the art of negative space, nor the dynamics a quiet part of the park brings to the table.

Burbank is full of useless suits, and lacks creative direction who understands the intent of the parks. The Bobs have been a complete disaster on this company…
This post is a statement to why creatives need higher roles in the company

I mean, that was 8 years ago. Back then 4K tvs were only just entering the main stream consumer market, Space X had never launched astronauts into space, and hoverboards (not the cool ones from BTTF but the lame two wheel, self balancing ones) were just getting popular. A lot has changed technologically in that time...
They were moving containers around ports with autonomous vehicles and had been for years......

Do we know height/depth at all? Cause the art makes it look like this thing is gonna be at least three stories tall and also looks like it will go under the existing land (underground) which I thought was impossible because I assumed the utilidor would prevent anything to be beneath the current path. Personally my biggest complaint about MK is how flat it feels (with exception of Tomorrowland) so anything to fix that complaint of mine is welcome news to me

I agree with you on that. You seemed averse to both risk and location. For now, let’s both try to agree that at least they’re trying something new with this.
Again, I’ve said nothing about risk. There’s many things I personally don’t like about this but risk in the ride system isn’t one.

The utilidors are not a podium holding up the entire park. You can easily find maps and overlays of them online and see their extents.

The ideal scenario was multiple planets in multiple sections of the land. Like have a Tatooine area, have an Endor area, have a Death Star with a cool interior space.
