Despite all the pushback internally, despite being told by people who know why this is wrong, despite external complaints, they still insist on doing it.

Of course they do. Why would the people who don't like theme parks, have no hospitality experience, no engineering or construction background, never worked in the parks, fired all the people with institutional knowledge and have no interest in the brand think they're wrong?

I would think the maintenance would be easier just because you could take the trackless cars off without having to detach from a track and just put a new one on. Also just me or is it hopeful thinking this ride is gonna be quick to make because after land clearing of Toms they just need to build a dirt track, landscaping, and one or two show buildings. Don't get me wrong knowing Disney its still gonna take years but optimistic 2027?

Get back to me when this ride is inside and dark.

I'm finding responses like this to be rather amusing.

I suspect this is going to be themed as well as Grizzly River Run, which is one of the best rapid rides in the world, and one of the most beautifully themed. It has zero characters (which is a plus to me) and not really any "effect moments" but it doesn't need it because the ambiance + raft ride is top notch.

Now, I'll grant you that the ride system for this new Cars attraction is probably not quite as wild as a good raft rapids ride, but it looks like it will be really close. Especially if they can really give you the experience of riding over rough terrain, and maybe even doing some donuts. That's fun even in a dusty field without any trees or mountains. OF COURSE it will be more fun in a national park-like setting.

I think this is going to be a terrific attraction. The REAL problem is where they are placing it.

As cool as the high-speed trackless concept looks, it seems like a ride where if something goes wrong it can go really wrong.

Well, that's what the 5-point harnesses and roll-bars are for. :)

Plus, don't be fooled. My understanding is that the TestTrack cars are simply POWERED by a cable connection to the track. They are still self-guided (one accidentally jumped its track and crashed into a wall before opening in 1996).

Not that this doesn’t look cool, but I feel like this could be a maintenance nightmare knowing how the weather is in Florida.

Possibly, but more likely LESS of a maintenance nightmare. There's no track with electric current running through it (like TestTrack or RSR).

It wouldn’t be an actual dirt track. Even if it were there’s a lot of equipment that is used to actual monitor and operate a trackless ride system.

Has Dynamic ever sold this ride in the years since they showed it at IAPPA?
Maybe Disney bought one way back when and finally came up with a way to use it?
Even on a new build if it's the first I would expect issues and anticipate lots of downtime

I am appalled, this looks to be nothing more than a giant ugly dirt monster rally pit plopped down in the Magic Kingdom....I see legal issues all written over it as well. And how the noise level of this wont be heard all over the park.... its really a disgrace the direction in design these baffoons are taking. They have to have only the latest biggest gadgets and tech, so they can make an upcharge mess on their precious app revenue, they care nothing about the park or what is fitting in theme and design.

What’s wrong here — the ride system, the location, or *gestures* everything?

I will say, I do think it’s funny that the first truly daring ride system since maybe the kuka arms is being met with a resounding “thanks, I hate it.” I hope we’re proven wrong and that it rocks.

Considering the SFX coaster basically bankrupted them and the whole company was sold off last year, I wonder if Disney could've bought the patents for the ride design.
