Cars Land Construction begins November 13th!

A very reliable poster on other Disneyland boards named "Darkbeer" has announced that Cars Land will begin construction in about two weeks. The first step is to shut down a big chunk of the Timon Parking Lot where Cars Land will be built, and the last day to use most of that lot is November 12th. Then fences go up, project management trailers move in, and they begin tearing up the pavement and clearing the land.

Other reliable insiders on the same thread are saying that once the pavement is gone and they are down to dirt and Anaheim bedrock, construction equipment and heavy machinery moves in later in '09.

Darkbeer also had news about the two new Disney hotels being built at Anaheim GardenWalk. I guess the Disney and the developers signed a contract on Wednesday, but they are waiting until after the city council election on Tuesday to announce it. (Lots of drama and bad blood with Disney and Lorri Galloway on the Anaheim city council!)

The bummer is that the Sun Wheel is already closed for its remake into Mickey's Fun Wheel, and it won't be available for pictures of the Cars Land construction preparation for six months. The new Mickey's Fun Wheel opens April, 2009, right about the time the big construction equipment arrives on the cleared land though! (The top of the Sun Wheel offers perfect views of the current Timon Parking Lot and future Cars Land area)

This is big news, as Cars Land is truly the most anticipated part of the DCA Extreme Makeover project. The economy be darned, the DCA project is moving ahead quickly. :sohappy:

Thanks for the update. Do you know if any other attractions are going to be affected by this (i.e. closed)?

Have any attractions that will be in CL been announced? I have a bad feeling that it is going to be done on the cheap like Dino USA in AK at WDW.

CL is arguably the biggest part of the $1 Billion makeover. The cornerstone attraction, Radiator Springs Racers, will be one of the most massive attractions ever created.

The other attractions that are announced are Luigi's Roamin' Tires, which is the (hopefully) triumphant return of the old Flying Saucers, and Tow Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, which seems to be a more thrilling spinner ride like the Mad Tea Party.

So, to answer your question, no, they are not cheaping out on this one.

Three atttractions, plus several shops and restaurants, have been announced for Cars Land. Radiator Springs Racers is an E Ticket, and two C Tickets. It looks very expensive.

Here's a link to some great pictures of the latest concept art released by Disney at press conferences, or currently available to view at the DCA Blue Sky Cellar preview center. http://micechat.com/forums/members/...-adventure-project-tracker-image-gallery.html

Is CL the final name because that isn't really a creative name. You would think that imagineers could come up with a better more creative name then Cars Land.

I've heard reports that the Imagineers want to name it Radiator Springs and Route 66, but Marketing is getting in the way like it did with Toy Story (Midway) Mania.

Things can surely change before 2012, but as of right now, the signage and stuff in the Blue Sky Cellar are calling it Carsland.

Doesn't the Screamin' lift hill provide at least a glimpse of the lot, or are the scream tubes in the way?

If it does, they may not be the prettiest shots to take, but they will get the job done.

Awesome. I'm planning on heading to DL for the first time after all these great attractions are done!

Let's just hope they really did get the budget they needed to make these rides, especially RSR, what they should be.
