My daughter and her avid son lover of cars 1, my grandson said it was not so good. I am 56 and watch it every time it comes on.Why did they set it ion another country?? She said very little radiator springs in the beginning and end.. I guess I will save my money for Disney and see it on video..

Honestly (and as a business, I understand it), they set the film throughout the world to appeal to a worldwide audience. While Cars did amazing business in the US, it wasn't quite as successful overseas.

I know it will drive purists nuts, but merchandise sales are the only reason there's a Cars 2.

Btw, I just came from seeing it and it's fair at best. Almost as though Pixar didn't actualy make it. Definitely their worst film and a shadow of the original. The story absolutely stinks. It'll have much more repeat viewing once it's on DVD in our house than movies like Wall-e, Up or Ratitouille, but that doesn't mean it's good.

According to rottentomatoes.com (movie critics from everywhere), it's the worst Pixar movie ever. Of course, since all their movies have been good, take that for what you will.

well since disney basically controls pixar's every move there is a good chance we won't get an exceptional pixar movie any time soon. after this I think they're doing a princess movie and monsters inc 2 (could be wrong, but don't think so). Plus, Cars 1 basically ended, there wasn't much room for a sequel. Still, I'm definitely going to see Cars 2 since I havn't missed a Pixar movie yet, and don't intend to since as a whole they're my favorite animation movie studio.

Ratitouille was pretty classic, and Wall-E and Up were pure Pixar imagination and really innovative for what an animated film can do; that is really touch on real topics or be emotionally provoking (though the dog and bird in Up were obviously disney coming in and saying they need to add some comic relief in an otherwise sad/depressing but well done story). Cars 2 is what happens when the hands of Disney interfere.

As for the merchandise part, the quote is spot on. This happened last year with a TV show I watch, where they decided to make a "merchandising episode." Here they took the main race of villains of the show over its many seasons and decided to make a select few multi-color (like power rangers) so that they could have an excuse to sell them as toys and what not. Not to mention the episode was pretty average, which is how Cars 2 seems to be going.

^ True... but Pixar's film development is a 3-5 year process. ;) If you assume each Pixar movie was 5 years from pre-production to release, than the first movie to enter production after Disney acquired Pixar in 2006 was... none other than Cars 2.

I saw it at a preview. It's awful. There was barely a plot and the action scenes lasted so long I didn't care about the outcomes. Kids around me were audibly bored and restless. Remember how some of the Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s and 90s were actually toy commercials? That's how this movie feels. :brick:

I hate to say it too, because I love Pixar.

Valid points, I suppose that would be true. Excuse my ignorance on this topic. :hammer:

i would go see this movie for the toy story short
realy looking forward to more in the future :sohappy:

the movie was not terrible, it was just not up to pixar's standard. i feel it would have been allot better if they used all new characters, and not in the CARS world

As a rule, I stay away from sequels.

I just prefer new story lines instead of a rehash of someone else's creativity.

Of course there are always exceptions.

And some of these exceptions include:
Toy Story 2
Toy Story 3
Aliens
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
The Dark Knight
The Empire Strikes Back
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade
The Godfather Part II
Kill Bill Vol. 2

Correct?

Just got back from it and I thought it was pretty good. Its definately lower on the Pixar list which isn't saying much. But over all I thought it was pretty good.

Well, I would take exception to a few of those myself...

Not old, just vintage.
I saw Cars 1 in the theaters and didn't really enjoy it. I think I watched it one or two times on DVD after that. For some reason I bought the Blu-ray and watched it. I enjoyed it more that time and it got me pretty excited for Cars 2. Last night I went and saw Cars 2 in 3-D with some friends and was a little disappointed. It was much more of an action movie than I expected and was missing an emotional connection. The theater was full of kids who couldn't sit still and it was a bit distracting. I also found myself having a hard time figuring out what was going on at some points because the accents were difficult (full disclosure-I'm hearing impaired and have difficulty with accents sometimes but not too frequently). I did enjoy the visuals and funny signs, etc. in the background. The pope mobile and queen totally had us giggling. All in all I was happy I saw it in theaters but I think that is largely attributed the fact that I had a coupon for a free movie ticket. :lookaroun If it hadn't been for that I probably would have preferred to wait for the DVD.
