Carribbean Beach Resort

We're hoping to go next year in April and Carribbean Beach is one of the top candidates for our resort. We would love to stay at Ft Wilderness Cabins, but even if we can afford it, I'm leaning towards saving the money for now, staying somewhere cheaper and saving the cabins until the kids are old enough to appreciate it more. We loved POR the two times we stayed there, and it's still a possible candidate for us to stay at next year, but I would kind of like to give another resort a shot, not to mention the ungodly long bus lines for the Port Orleans resorts that we encountered on our two previous trips. When leaving a park, it seemed like everyone in the park was from Port Orleans. There would be a huge line for the bus back to the resort, and it would take three or four busses until it was our turn, but in the meantime, we would look both directions and see hardly anyone at the bus stops for the other resorts.

But anyway, back to Carribbean Beach. What are the pools like? Did I read correctly somewhere that each "village" has its own feature pool? Or are they just quiet pools with one feature pool in a central location? What other forms of recreation do they have? I thought that I have seen video clips of people riding surrey bikes there...is that correct? I thought they had a sandy beach there...does that mean they have a zero entry pool? Or is that water just for boating and for prettiness? Does that resort book up pretty far in advance? I had planned on calling in April to book, whether it's really necessary or not. Just the phsycological thrill, I guess, of being exactly a year out and officially booking the trip. Any other info on this resort that anyone could share would be appreciated as well.

One feature pool in a central location, but each island/village has a quiet pool. The feature pool was just completely redone - and does have zero entry.

The village surround a 45 acre lake, you cannot swim in the lake. It is for boating. The 1.4 mile promenade around the lake can be used for surrey bikes, jogging, etc.

Cool, thanks for the link! I went by this resort last year, when my wife was back at our resort taking a nap. I just drove through it, though, since I didn't have much time to get out and walk around much. So I didn't get a really good look at everything. But it looks really awesome, and if the wife has no objections, I'm strongly considering booking Carribbean Beach for next year.

What about the Table Service restaraunt there? Anyone have any reviews to give on it? I've kind of decided that from now on, anytime we stay at a resort for the first time, I want to eat at that resort's restaraunt...so if we do stay there next year, I'll probably want to try Shutters (is that the name of it?).

Well, I think I decided for now, to go ahead and book Carribbean Beach for next year. We really want to try the Ft Wilderness Cabins, but unless the economy still sucks and they are offering a heck of a deal, we thought it best to stick with a moderate for now. So it was between CB and POR. I showed my wife those links yesterday and she thought it was pretty enough to warrant her approval to book that one as opposed to POR. So, if I can wait another month, I'll book it next month at the one year mark. Otherwise, I may get antsy and book it early.

IMHO CBR is the best resort for the money. Not many kids running around. We've been going there every year since 94. The main pool was TOTALLY redone last year and new pier/boardwalks added as well. I would recommend ARUBA or JAMAICA. It is a large resort so just be sure you request a village close to Port Royale. Trinadad is wehr e the new Pirate rooms are located, but is also the furthest walk to the Port. Each viallage has its' own bus stop as well.

I think you made a good choice. We have stayed at POR, POFQ, and CB two times. I really preferred the atmosphere at CB--it was very tropical and pretty! The food court is good, IMO, and we enjoyed the sit-down restaurant, too. We liked the old pool, so the new one must really rock! Have a great trip!

We are staying at the CBR this June/July when we go. I have looked at a variety of resorts when booking.

Poly was too high in cost right now. But CBR seemed to be good for children and we have a Pirate room booked. From all the sites, reviews and photos I have seen, I am crossing my fingers CBR lives up.

When will you be there? We will be at the CBR from June 26th to July 3rd. Can't wait!

We will be there June 29 - July 6. We should meet up. Always fun to meet Disney people.

I saw you are a teacher. My wife used to be a teacher as well, now she is a stay at home mom.

So which village is closest to the feature pool? Or are they all pretty well equidistant from it?
The main pool is in a complex called Old Port Royale. The villages closest to OPR are Martinique and Trinidad North. The rooms in half of Martinique and all of Trinidad North are classified as "preferred location" and are a separate booking catgegory that costs more per night.

If you did not reserve and pay for a preferred location room, then my advice would be to request Aruba building 51, Jamaica building 45, or Martinique building 23. These are the 3 closest buildings that are NOT preferred location buildings.

If you booked through Disney, call Disney at 407-W-DISNEY and make your request; it will be noted on your reservation. If you booked through a travel agent, call your TA and have him/her make the request for you.

we booked through Disney...thank you for the information! Is there a time frame for doing this? should I wait till closer to the arrival date or is now ok?
Last time we stayed in CBR we stayed in a "preferred" location but spent very little time at the hotel so I decided not to pay extra.

Do it any time. It doesn't matter how early or late you do it, as long as it's done by no later than about 1 week before your trip. There's no advantage to waiting until the last minute.

The information becomes part of your existing reservation.

Pretend we are in the pre-computer age. It would be as if your request got written on a small piece of paper that got stapled to your reservation form. It is attached to it, it's part of it. Same thing when you call to add the request.

Since our trip is planned for next April, the goal I set for myself was to call THIS April to book. Not because I thought it would be necessary, but just for the fun of beginning the official planning a year out. Well, I just called and booked a 9 night stay at CB, and was quite surprised to find that as of now, a year and 2 weeks out, the only thing available was Pirate rooms! So perhaps booking a year out was a good idea anyway! LOL A Pirate room isn't my first choice and my wife is even less thrilled with it, although I, personally, would be willing to settle for it. But, of course, something else could come available over the coming months and I could rebook that. But I asked her why it would be so booked this far in advance and she said that there is something going on at that time of year, but I can't remember what it is.

But then, there's also the option of switching resorts entirely, as she said that standard view rooms at Coronado Springs are cheaper than what I booked and that, for the 9 night stay, it would be around 300 dollars cheaper. So we may do that, but we have several months to think about that. But for now, the room is booked and the clock is now officially ticking on our countdown period, and I will eagerly await the confirmation letter that they should be mailing me in a few weeks. :D

The only things I can think of that may have CBR booked a year away in April would be (1) F&G Festival, (2) Easter, and (3) Grad nights/Senior travel trips.
