Carousel of Progress New Laptop

Clearly I love CoP, since I rushed over to take the picture when the new laptop was rumored. I have always hoped they would do something to update the last scene, but I had never really thought about this problem. It would not be jumping from the 60's to 2020's; it would be jumping from the 40's to the 2020s. If they rework the last scene, they might have to rework everything. That would very likely ruin the attraction, the nostalgia, and optimism that it instills in some of us. I guess they could do something like 1900, 1940, 1980, and 2020, but even 2020 doesn't seem very "tomorrow." Heck, I've already got a few things on the calendar for the 2020s.

I would love to see this with the announced update...Eliminate the 1920s and do pre electricity, electricity takes over, internet age and "current day".

I love the CoP more than anything at WDW and it badly needs an update to the whole show, not just the last scene. The reason is that we are all so far away from 1900 pre electric time that the 1920s and 1940s really don't feel all that different to most people...so you have a radio in one and a TV in the other, big deal. I would rather see it stretch the time period to show important periods over a specific year, since the times aren't really valid to a group of people who werent alive at those times. Realistically, the only scen with any real lfe experience validity to guests would be the 1940s and we are getting to the point where those people that remember that time are now in their 80s. I would love to see what Disney could do with this...

Funny idea just popped into my head while reading this. I'm sure we're all familiar with the Stanley Cup, the most historic trophy in all of sports. Well, as you may know, the names of every player from every winning team are engraved along the base of the cup every year. Eventually, after so many years, the NHL ran out of space to engrave players' names, and so what they did was cut off the silver ring containing the engraved names, and weld a new blank silver ring in its place.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_Stanley_Cup_engravings#The_top_ring_is_retired

Since its inception, several "rings" of the Stanley Cup have been "retired" as more teams win the Cup and require more space.

Anyway, this concept seems so appropriate for the Carousel Of Progress!

Every 20 years, the oldest scene gets moved out of the building and to the Walt Disney Family Museum, or the Smithsonian. Then, a brand new scene gets added to the end. Eventually, the entire original show ends up in a museum, but by that time, brand new scenes will have been incrementally added every 20 years. It's a work in progress in perpetuity. A neverending story. A progressing story of progress. The DNA never changes, but the organism constantly replenishes and rebuilds itself.

Note, this is a sarcastic post because the Carousel of Progress is a historic statement that should remain in situ, in Tomorrowland, in a Magic Kingdom, and should never be relocated to a stodgy dusty museum. This is simply SirNim playing devil's advocate for kicks and giggles on a Friday night.
