Wow thanks
Well, with all this talking, I've worked up quite a thirst. I think I'll take one of those newfangled trolleys down to the drug store soda fountain and meet the boys for a cold sarsaparilla. Oh...haha, I'm sorry, I forgot. We're drinking root beer now! Same kind of thing, different name. Well, that's progress for you. Speaking of progress...
wow thanks. you have officially sent me to Disney for a quick second. Officially ended my day very well :)

If they crank up the ride to a couple hundred RPM's, centrifugal force will keep guests stuck to their seats! :)

Ahhhhh....*sigh*
Yep, nothin' evokes that old nostalgic feelin' quite like a visit to Walt Disney's Centrifuge of Puke. :)

BTW...
Dosen't Disney already have one of those...? o_O ;)

It is the primary problem with this country today. Arrogance. "The rules are there for everyone EXCEPT me." I see this same type of person each day. "I can run the stop signs because what are you going to do, hit me??" Yes! That is exactly what is going to happen. People think that they can do whatever they want whenever they want and no one should be allowed to stop them or tell them what to do. I say warn them once, then remove them from the park if they do not listen.

For the most part on my vacation it wasn't the people from this country that was the problem or arrogant. More the hordes from a particular country in the continent south of ours.

That makes me sad! Who would ever want to leave COP! It's my all-time favorite attraction ever  It is in desperate need of some love though. I hope since it's one of Walt's original creations, they will find it in their budget to give it the tune-up it needs. Ahh...just hearing that story makes me wish I was there!

It is desperate indeed. Even the chairs are starting to tip downward like Sounds Dangerous' chairs did the last few years, noticed that this year too in Muppets.

Had something like that happen to us a few years ago. People were getting up and leaving. We sat and waited curious what would happen next. Things happen....

I actually saw a sarsparilla the other day, and thought of this attraction. It is the only reason that I know what one is.

And that is a good thing. It's good to have our history.

Nah, that would be too simple. What they REALLY need to do is install the same kinda' restraints they have in SGE. ;)

Honestly though, we've been on this attraction many times over the years and it has never stopped, even once. And, actually, I didn't even know this is how it worked in that situation, until I found this thread.

We've never had a problem either but I admit we've only been on it probably 6 times total . I do think a big part of the "issue" is people see themselves as not moving . I knwo in a lot of shows u can leave so they think oh I'm the audience in a theater I can leave..verses I'm on a ride..

Is there some sort of pre-show announcement along the lines of: "Once the show starts, you must stay seated the entire time..." similar to the one heard prior to Ellen's Energy Adventure? That seems to get the point across for Ellen's crowd (at least I've never seen anyone get up and try to leave during the middle of it...but nothing surprises me anymore).

Then they could do that for flash photography too.

Seriously though, I think, as other have said, the feeling of movement is very subtilel in CoP, while in Ellen it is very clear. The other thing is, they have a lot more time to load in Ellen. They have time to cleary explain what will happen if you get up. CoP has to load in a specific time frame or else it delays the attraction, a lot of times the CMs seem to be rushing through the short spiel that they do have.

Very sad to hear, I've been visiting COP since my first visit in the 70's and still visit it when we holiday annually. I do wish they'd at least update the computer game in the final scene though, it's really very dated graphically for a so called present day scene. I'm sure somebody could write a program of a computer game simulating a space battle to coincide wth the current dialogue without too much trouble to replace the current version. As for the dangers of leaving during a performance, they're very real. A cast member sadly lost their life after being trapped between the walls a number of years ago so the rules are for peoples own safety.

before you know it.. they'll put seatbelts in to stop it from happening.

they could just project animations of flying saw blades near the door.. that should keep people away :)

My first thought was, why not lock the doors about 10 seconds before the carousel starts moving? Then I realized they probably can't because technically it is a theatre and they have to keep the doors unlocked at all times for fire safety. Even belts/lap-bars might be tricky to implement because they would hinder evacuation of the theatre.

But, what if about 10 seconds before rotation they projected a large X or stop or no-exit symbol on the doors to indicate that moment would be a bad idea to leave? It wouldn't prevent anyone from physically exiting, but maybe it would help deter the sheep that follow the first one out.

Or they could just post a couple Storm Troopers next to each exit.

Walt, we love you man, but serious?? A theatre ride with conflicting safety rules?!?! Dude!

To represent the present it would have to be a game of an irate Donald Duck loading himself into a slingshot and flinging himself into a fort built by the Three Little Pigs.

More thought... Would a theatre be allowed to have those fire exit doors which one has to push and hold for a few seconds before they open? The doors could be placed in that mode about 5 seconds before rotation, and connected into the system so that the ride can be safely stopped before the door was allowed to swing open. Between scenes the door would allow unobstructed egress.

...or is that how they work today? I never really paid much attention to them before.

Just thinking out loud here...is the CoP a "theater" that moves or is it an "attraction vehicle" shaped like a theater.
I think the definition of the space would define the fire laws that pertain to emergency egress.

Wow, instant E-ticket...finally MK would have a "new" E-ticket!!

But seriously, I have an idea. While I do like the pre-show where they talk about how much Walt Disney loved his attraction, how about an animation that shows one of the characters staying in their seats and the bad consequences if they don't?
