Career Start Program

I had a few questions for people who've been through the career start program...

How recommended do you think the DVD player is? - I ask because I've got a laptop and I was thinking there's no reason to bring one if I can watch DVD's on my own.

What's the Phone Card for, payphones or something? - I think it'll be useless if that's what it's for because I got my cell.

Will I be told beforehand if I'm getting into a preferred field? - Not that it'd make any big difference I'd just like to know where I'll be working beforehand.

Wha kind of "Computer desk" would you recommend? - A small fold up table or something I'd need U-Hauls help with?

What do you think the chances of one of my roomies bringing a router? -Don't wanna pack one just to find that there's 4 others in the room.

Just how "high-speed" is the internet? - not looking for a specific number just a general idea, DSL, Dial-up, fiber-optics?

Just how big is my locker? - I have a 13" laptop and I'd like to know if I should bring a mini-safe.

Overall expirences? - not like, good-bad, a little more specific please like if it's early to get up(early as in before 6 at an hour before) or how the managers are, just general stuff about personal expirences.

If you can't answer some questions, just leave them out or divi them up between answers.

If you are fine with watching dvds on your laptop, then you don't need one. I do the same thing.

It's for using the phone in the apartment. You can't use it for long-distance calls.

Will I be told beforehand if I'm getting into a preferred field? - Not that it'd make any big difference I'd just like to know where I'll be working beforehand.

You will know which role you got, before you go down (you just won't know where you are working until you arrive).[/quote]

A small one should be fine. Don't forget, there isn't a ton of extra room in the apartments, and you will be living with anywhere from 1-7 other people.

What do you think the chances of one of my roomies bringing a router? -Don't wanna pack one just to find that there's 4 others in the room.

There's a pretty good chance. Also, if someone doesn't bring one, Walmart sells them pretty cheap.

Just how "high-speed" is the internet? - not looking for a specific number just a general idea, DSL, Dial-up, fiber-optics?

I believe it is dial-up.

Just how big is my locker? - I have a 13" laptop and I'd like to know if I should bring a mini-safe.

I believe it should fit in the locker.

Overall expirences? - not like, good-bad, a little more specific please like if it's early to get up(early as in before 6 at an hour before) or how the managers are, just general stuff about personal expirences.

I can't really answer this one, as I have never done the CS. I have done the CP, and they are pretty similar.

I just watched DVDs on my laptop and it worked out fine, but its kinda how you personally feel but you could always get it shipped later.

What's the Phone Card for, payphones or something? - I think it'll be useless if that's what it's for because I got my cell.

This is mainly recommended for international.... cells are good.

You find out your job location on day 2 unless this has been changed, I know you wait til after you move in!

Wha kind of "Computer desk" would you recommend? - A small fold up table or something I'd need U-Hauls help with?

Dont get one, theres end tables, coffee tables, and the kitchen table just dont mess with the desk. It's pointless.

What do you think the chances of one of my roomies bringing a router? -Don't wanna pack one just to find that there's 4 others in the room.

There's a very little chance someone will bring a router both times I went (CS and CP) I was the only one with it.

Just how "high-speed" is the internet? - not looking for a specific number just a general idea, DSL, Dial-up, fiber-optics?

Turtlish slowwwwwwwww unless you get up really early while the partiers are passed out... hehe... but I hear it's improved!

Just how big is my locker? - I have a 13" laptop and I'd like to know if I should bring a mini-safe.

I forget the dimensions but its a half locker like gym lockers in jr.high My laptop fit but it took some creativity... and stacking. I dont think a mini safe is necessary, The 13' will def fit.

Overall expirences? - not like, good-bad, a little more specific please like if it's early to get up(early as in before 6 at an hour before) or how the managers are, just general stuff about personal expirences.

Honestly, the program is what you make of it. They arent kidding around about drinking underage or having it in your apt. Sooner or later you will get kicked out I had 8 friends leave all together and not by choice lol. It's more working at night late then morning except for those assigned to Animal Kingdom. Managers are pretty good with everything but you get your duds....although the schedulers are awful. But if you take what you get and make the best out of it...you'll love it! Have fun and good luck!
