Hello there I think I posted something like this before, but I just got a new dvd rom that is software decoded and I want to capture images from it, I can capture it by doing the print screen and then going to paint and pasting it,but when I go to convert it from a bitmap to jpeg I loose the image,is there a way to capture images from your dvd rom?

That tends to happen with Paint. Try a different program like www.gimp.org...Its like a stripped down version of photoshop, but free. :) Hopefully that will work.

Dan, if you have any other suggestions...;)

Depending on your software..it probobly already has a "take screenshot" option on it..

ALSO...you MUST be in software mode and NOT hardware mode (for the DVD playback)...otherwise your screenshot will be either black or purple....

The black/purple screen caps are caused by the software not being able to capture the windows overlay layer. Think of it like Disney animation with all cell plastic thingies on top of a background. You need to capture from that cell plastic layer, not the background layer. WinDVD has a capture feature that will allow you to capture screenshots.

Or you can use DVDDecrypter to extract the chapter of what you want. Then drag the resulting VOB file in a program called DVD2AVI, then take a standard screen shot. It should work as DVD2AVI works on the background, not the overlay. This is the free way. WinDVD is not free.

I hate to bring back dinosaur threads, I really do... But... I was wondering... How would you be able to find out what mode you are in (hardware or software) and/or change your mode? I want to take some screenshots from DVDs but I really do not want to download additional software, regardless of any software's free pricetag. I have WMP, QuickTime, CyberLink PowerDVD (came with my computer, it's a version from July 2001 I believe, it's not a relatively new version), DivX Player 2.1, RealOne Player, etc. Do ANY of these programs allow you to take a screenshot from DVD?? I really want to take some screenshots but I do not want to download additional programs that will clog my computer. Thank you in advance. :)

By the way you have version 4? unless you have standard 4 you should have capture, cause mine is version 4 and it has capture. Look on your console, you know the thing that looks like a remote and on it there should be a small icon that looks like a camera. if so that is your capture icon.

I'd post a screenshot of the console but I'm not allowed... :( No, I didn't see any camera icon...
