Captian Eo v.s. Hunny I Shrunk the audience

I just do not like EO. Liked it somewhat better in it's first run, but it should never have made it back to the screen. HiSTA was ok @ best and unfortunately fits in with the mediocre theme that the Imagination Pavillion has had for many years now.

Captain EO is corny, goofy, cheesy, and so 80's. That's why it's awesome. I wasn't around at Epcot during it's first run so I'm enjoying it now. I wouldn't be against a new show being placed there but personally I saw HISTA once and never wanted to see it again.

Captain EO and its "pre show" was my biggest waste of time ever at WDW. On a scale of 1-10 for the 3Ds, I'd rate Captain EO a 1, HIStA a 2, Bug's Life a 5, MuppetVision a 9, and Philharmagic a 10.

I'm a huge fan of EO but mostly because I remember it from my childhood. I think it's really well done but agree that most are done better. I really wasn't a fan of HISTA at all though that may be partly because I frankly think the whole "Imagination Institute" thing is just out of sync. Since day one I haven't gotten it and still don't... of course now without HISTA in there, the attraction theming makes even less sense. I can't help but wonder if whatever does replace EO this time around will tie into the attraction again like HISTA did or if the two will continue to be considered unrelated attractions (or if they'll tweek the ride to match the new show... yeah right).

I think back in 1986 when EO opened it was state of the art and truly an incredible experience. Since then they've gone so much further so you can't help but compare. Taking the effects that were built for HISTA and trying to make them work with EO was a fail in my opinion. When we did EO last year I was so excited to experience it again and relive the memories but the constant floor shaking from the reuse of the hyrdolics took my attention away from the film. Sure, I still walked away singing the music and my son loved the film itself but this single "return" of an attraction is what made me realize that no matter how attached I am to one, there is usually a good reason to not bring them back. LOL!

My biggest problem is that EO was brought back on ht cheap. Many of the original effects in the theater were not restored (I assume budget). It just did not work with me without the original effects.
I still liked the old "Making Memories" pre-show from the original EO. But it is a bit dated these days.

yup, i'm with you on that. muppetvision and philharmagic are what happens when 3d goes right. anything that has been in that imagination theatre is what happens when 3d goes wrong.

actually, in fairness to HISTA, back in the '90s, it was surprising and extremely popular with audiences.

now, that pavilion, man...just needs a reboot

Yep, time for something new. I hope it's true that something different is on it's way, maybe the beginning of a "new" Imagination pavilion. EO was great in the 80's (before bizarro MJ showed up), HISTA was great for the early 90's. I just hope whatever's next is amazing, because it'll probably be there for at least 15 years...

If one was going to put an "Avatar" experience someplace, THIS is where I'd have chosen to put it -- in the form of a 3D show that immerses guests in the movie, and is appropriately imaginative and futuristic for the setting.

I agree that the old EO and "Shrunk" themes are outdated and that something fresh is needed.

i think disney knows that EO is bad quality and sounds bad because at the start when the CM announces the show, they say 'this is the original footage from 1980...' whatever. they have to explain to people why it's so bad!
still, i never got to see it the first time around, yet for some reason it's always screamed DISNEY at me. i think it was because i have the video of the opening of Euro Disney, and in that there is a segment of EO. looks sweet. and i think HISTA was looking a bit dated, ok very dated. they need to put something stunning in that space, and it's going to have to match up with the 3D movies at the cinema now. actually, come to think of it, why would they even bother putting a new 3D film in there anyway because 3d isn't special any more. you can pop to your local cinema and see something 3D. meh who knows.

I always thought that Phineas and Ferb could do a fun 3d show there. It is the imagination pavilion and the entire Phineas and Ferb show is about using your imagination to make and do the impossible. I know that it is Epcot and many don't like character overlays, but I feel that one theater show in the whole pavilion may work.

Possibly Phineas and Ferb meeting Figment and the Dreamfinder???

We need time for things to happen.

Agreed!

As someon else mentioned - Putting EO back in was a quick fix.
HISTA was baaadd and probably on it's way out...EO was timely due to MJ passing so it was a good quick fix.
My thoughts..As soon as Test Track is back up and running...shut down the Imagination Pavillion and retool baby.

Captain eo is the best!!! Brings back childhood memories!!

Yep. I'll take Captain EO every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Heck, I'll take it twice every day. It was such as an amazing achievement when it opened that the memories of it's glory will live with me for a long time to come. BTW, I saw it first at DL which was amazing.

My biggest problem is that EO was brought back on ht cheap. Many of the original effects in the theater were not restored (I assume budget). It just did not work with me without the original effects.

I agree. It was better with the original effects. I wish they would bring them back. The pre-show is good to watch once, after that you just want to skip it. One of my pet peeves on the return is that my recollection is on coming out of the theater the sound in the original run (at least at DL) was much louder and carried the vibe with you as you left the theater. When I've gone since the return the volume seems much lower on the exit music which makes it seem more like elevator music than an attraction.

Yes, it's awesome. It's awesome for many other reasons as well. The main one being because MJ is in it. He's a stumble bum when he talks but the dude lights it up when he's performing. Watching this is kind of like seeing an MJ concert. You get the big theater screen and full on concert sound. I look forward to seeing it multiple times whenever I visit. No HISTA for me.

One Little Spark...
I'm glad they got rid of Honey I Shrunk the Audience. It was a campy play on a bad movie that Disney beat to death. I can appreciate those who enjoyed it because it was part of their childhood, but Captain EO was part of mine.

That being said...both movies were bad. Were it not for MJ (and his music) being in EO, it would be a terrible show. It's sortof like Moonwalker...terrible movie, but for the music / dancing.

What I think is more important then the 3D show, though, is the state of the Imagination Pavilion as a whole. Journey has been ruined, Dreamfinder/Figment walkaround has been retired, the rainbow tunnel is no more (or at least, it's upstairs rotting). That whole pavilion needs a revamp. Until they are willing to do it right and with passion, I think they should pretty much leave well enough alone for the time being.

I had no clue what Captain EO was before seeing it on my last trip 2 years ago. And I still have no clue what it is now. While watching it I couldn't figure out if it was a comedy or adventure or a really long MJ music video. It was just so weird, I couldn't take it seriously. It should be noted I'm not a MJ fan so I was probably biased walking in, but still I didn't know what to make of it. I'd like to see it once more, but then if they changed it to anything else I wouldn't complain.

I was looking forward to seeing EO after too many years of HISTA (and just bypassing due to burn out) but found that one trip to EO was enough. As much as I appreciate MJ's music, I just didn't care for EO. Time for something totally new here and I don't mean another character meet-n-greet. I wish WDW would quit dumbing down attractions.
