Captain EO Closing at DLP 4/2

Good riddance. It was fun (I suppose) for some people to have it back for a short run to relive the past, but it has already over-stayed its welcome and shouldn't be a long-term solution for that space.

I question the judgment of anyone who thinks this is a good attraction for Future World, and doesn't just like it because it's MJ or it plays to their nostalgia for the attraction.

Being "better than HISTA" doesn't make it good.

You do realize this is about the Disneyland Paris attraction, right? (so the thread is misplaced.) The Orlando version will live on. (For now.)

When Philippe Gas spoke about two new attractions (one of them assuming is Ratatouille) was it mentioned whether the second is definitely for the Studios? Maybe the second attraction is to replace Captain EO?

Yeah, I'm aware. The wording of my post doesn't make it read as if I'm aware, but I did catch that.

Instead of "Good riddance," perhaps "It can't also leave Epcot and Disneyland soon enough" is how I should have started.

This just takes even more out of the graveyard that DLP Discoveryland has become, its a shame!

Dont hold your breath for anything to replace it either!

That's just what I was thinking. Sadly, knowing Disneyland Paris, this is more likely just an indication that they're sick of running the attraction more than it means an incoming replacement.

How's this for a radical approach, which I'm sure all the experts will denounce as impossible for one reason or another?

Rotate in the theater HISTA, EO, and Soarin, especially when Soarin 2.0 comes out.

Do it daily. If people can schedule to visit HS when Fantasmic is only certain nights, they can schedule to visit Epcot on the day they absolutely have to see their favorite movie.

Scents and wind for soarin are possible in the HISTA/EO theater.

While I enjoy this attraction for its nostalgia and fun (and I'm an MJ fan, too), it's had a good return, but it's about time for it to head on its way again! Time for a NEW attraction! NOT HISTA!

I don't care what they do elsewhere, so long as EPCOT gets to keep EO for a long time! I watch it multiple times a day every time I go. Its great a little reminder of the greatness that once was EPCOT Center. I hope they took the HISTA rubbish out into a field and destroyed it Office Space style. I would rather see the theater go dark than have that abomination back in there.

Good. The last few times I've been to DLP, I've rarely seen anyone go into EO. I did this attraction a while ago, and it was dated.

Time to move on.

Well, since it seems that DLP's Captain EO will just convert into an empty, unused space, I don't think it's a good decision. While I agree that the film is dated (even though I loved it when I saw it at DL in 92), I would rather keep an attraction than get nothing.

And at least in March 2011 I experienced it during the week in a theater that was at least half full.

I also think that this is no indication of what will happen at WDW or DL. I am sure that DLP considers Dreams a new "attraction", so they can close one and still have the same capacity (meaning they still can ensure that people see the 6 attractions they need to see to consider their day at DLP succesful as Mr Gas stated in the Figaro interview).

I agree, I would rather it stay than sit empty, if they already have plans in the pipeline for this location then I have no problem with them closing it down.

Attendance wise I have seen it when completely full, half empty and us being the only guests inside (all on the same day) so it is very hit and miss.

I can't see them closing Florida's until after Test Track comes back. They're going to need something the "people eat" while it's down.

I like the idea of things like Captain EO coming back for limited engagements where possible. There was talk a while ago of Magic Journeys coming back again for a similar limited engagement. I would fully support a year or two of that instead of continued playing of Captain EO.

I say that with the expectation that the pavilion won't undergo a substantial refurb in the next 5 years. I would obviously much prefer a total pavilion overhaul instead.

I love Eo for the nostalgia, and every time I go, the theatre is at least half-full and even still generates cheers from fans. But I agree, it's time for something new. You'll get just as many complaints if they put HISTA back; they could do it if they wanted to--all the materials are stored upstairs with the ghosts of Imageworks. One can only dream that when Epcot finally decides to change it, the entire pavilion will be restored to something worthy of its original glory.

Honest question: what was so terrible about "Honey I Shrunk The Audience?" I don't think it was that bad of a 3D film at all! I've always sort of liked it...

I think Captain EO's days are numbered at Epcot...sadly.

I agree. While HISTA and bugs life are not oscar-worthy, they certainly are entertaining enough and are a welcome respite from the heat. I guess the lack of response to a daily, or even a seasonal, rotation of various options (HISTA,EO,Soarin, etc) in a theater environment ideal for these showings, tells of the interest in pursing this versus an empty pavillion.

Oh well.

I personally never had a problem with HISTA, it just lived for too long.
