Captain EO Closing at DLP 4/2

I don't care what they do elsewhere, so long as EPCOT gets to keep EO for a long time! I watch it multiple times a day every time I go. Its great a little reminder of the greatness that once was EPCOT Center. I hope they took the HISTA rubbish out into a field and destroyed it Office Space style. I would rather see the theater go dark than have that abomination back in there.

EO is hardly a strength or even a good example of the "old" EPCOT Center.

I prefer almost any film in the World Showcase and the experiences there over EO any day.

EO kinda sucks. Sorry to say... but it just isn't very good at all. It might've big, expensive, and bombastic but I feel that MJ has other things that do his talent more justice than EO.

And EPCOT isn't the place to showcase those things.

Honest question: what was so terrible about "Honey I Shrunk The Audience?" I don't think it was that bad of a 3D film at all! I've always sort of liked it...

I think Captain EO's days are numbered at Epcot...sadly.

It's wasn't bad. I just never enjoyed it the way I should've.

Some parts I liked, some parts I didn't. It was just time for it to go. Just saying.

I really think that Innoventions can be used as a virtual reality area for extinct attractions. I know we don't want Disney to become a museum, but this would be utilizing modern technology to visit the past.

I love Eo for the nostalgia, and every time I go, the theatre is at least half-full and even still generates cheers from fans. But I agree, it's time for something new. You'll get just as many complaints if they put HISTA back; they could do it if they wanted to--all the materials are stored upstairs with the ghosts of Imageworks. One can only dream that when Epcot finally decides to change it, the entire pavilion will be restored to something worthy of its original glory.

I agree with these two points. ^^^^

I never saw HISTA with more than a few dozen people in the theater. EO has been at least half full each time I have been as well. I have also had people (myself included ;)) clapping/cheering when MJ comes on screen for the first time. No one cheered for Rick Moranis.

When it comes time to retire EO again, it needs to be because they have something awesome to replace it. Hopefully that awesome replacement ties in with an equally awesome replacement ride.

I like the idea of having a new 3D movie but I'm afraid that if it's like for example,Phineas and Ferb, that Disney will change the Imagination Pavilion itself. Like what happened with HISTA. I don't think Figment's going anytime soon but I just don't want that to happen again.

I'm all for a 70's video (Magic Journeys) replacing an 80's video. Let's bring it back! Oh yeah, Honey I Shrunk The Audience seems more dated than Captain Eo.

Well EO came back after some Imagineers were viewing old stuff from the WDI media vault and said "hey EO is still fun". So who knows, they might view other movies and decide to bring another show back.

For those who desire EO's iminent removal at WDW- what would you expect to fill its place were it to be discontinued?

I would be all for its removal if something new were coming- but that's not very realistic, is it? I feel that a new film would never be considered for that space unless it coincided with an overhaul of the entire pavillion. If EO were to leave now, would we just get HISTA back? Or worse, nothing? I think any prediction for the near future of that theater is grim, no matter how you spin it. We either keep the same stale movie that's there now, or get the previous stale movie, or nothing. Woo-hoo.

(I actually like EO. But in the context of theme-dead, identity crisis Future World, it's a little depressing to know that's the newest thing we have.)

No its not realistic anymore, but it should be. It shows how lazy and money tight they have become. It is depressing to know that apparently they cant come up with something new and or of course they wont pay for anything new. Very depressing. Granted a new sponsor would help I guess but still.

Thats nice for awhile or for a short run, but not the answer. Its just copping out and trying to save money instead of doing something brand new.
