The election comments are really the last thing anyone has really seen. I'm guessing she's just in lockdown mode. Keep a low profile, don't draw attention to yourself and let things hopefully blow over. I'm betting when the movie is in full promo tour mode we will see articles talking about her statements and will they hurt the film...
Again this isn’t the thread for it, but she is on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet until the 16th and is constantly on social media. So no she isn’t in lockdown mode.

In the end I think most people (especially outside the US) aren’t going to pay attention to any comments, especially not ones made 1-2 years ago. So just like Mackie’s comments, it’ll end up being nothing but blown out of proportion if brought up again.

This isn’t the right thread but her comments about the film were innocuous and blown out of proportion just like Mackie’s.
It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, outrageous or innocuous. There's a great chance once promotion of the film hits full swing, it's making headlines. Especially after the election stuff. The media loves controversy, simple as that.

I haven’t seen anything in the news about Zegler for quite some time. What comments are you talking about?

There’s a reason people jumped to defend Mackie and not Zegler but it’s not the one you gave.
I’ve been watching and reading 2025 box office predictions (for the box office thread) and every article/show has mentioned how the animosity towards Zegler will impact the box office. It may not be headline news but when all the analysts are saying her comments are going to hurt the box office I tend to believe them.

Curious what that reason is, because he’s black? because he’s a man? because people can easily overlook a gaffe? because he’s likable?

I think both sets of comments are being overblown and it really is only going to affect people that weren't going to go watch either movie to begin with. So how much it'll actually "affect" either movies box office remains to be seen, and likely won't be truly known but I'm sure both sides will make it seem like it is.

How about some people understand what he meant and don't consider it a "gaffe"?

A lot of people who get mad at things like this do so because they're told to by people who make a living by riling people up with the outrage of the day, usually manufactured.

Captain Falcon didn't film in the U.K., so Disney isn't forced to give the real budget. They probably won't do so unless Disney wants to use it somehow. Like as an excuse to get rid of one of their actors.

But thankfully many other Disney films were filmed there, for the tax break and their forced to release the details. Like for next month's Snow White and the Keebler Elfs.

Disney is having their paid media lie again. I guess this is what they feel they have to do now. To try and save face. They have the Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline (owned by the same company) lie for 2 years and hope people just forget about it. Below is just the budget for their films without the 100 to 150 in advertisements.

Captain Falcon - 180 million (actual budget TBD, rumored to be 350 million)
Dr Strange 2 - 200 million (actual budget - 415 million)
Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania- 200 million (actual budget - 330 million)
The Marvels - 200 million (actual budget - 374 million)
I think you need to be very careful when you use the term "lie". Just because budget actuals get revised later does not mean that Disney "forced" or "paid" any media to "lie". The budgets reported when the movie releases are typically estimates by the various media outlets that report it, sometimes its based on actual financial reports such as when a movie is filmed in the UK, sometimes its estimated based on reporting from insider sources or other means for getting estimates. But there is no one being "paid" to report a false number, that is just a conspiracy theory you've made up.

Movie budgets have been a very close guarded secret in Hollywood going back to the very beginning days. Disney is hardly the first and certainly not the only studio to not provide complete transparency with their budgets. So if Disney is "lying" then so is every other studio on the planet, meaning that recent movies like Sonic 3 and others likely costed way more than what was reported by media outlets. Which puts into question then the profitability of any movie you regard as a "huge success", likely putting many in the loss column then.

So how do you know what it really is? Do you have a spreadsheet from Disney?

Now I'm not hip to all the socials like you young folks, but she doesn't seem to be terribly active. Instagram, X, she's not on tik tok or Facebook as far as I can see. Some basic posts with pics...of course I'm not on all of them so I can't be certain for all of them. When I say lockdown, that doesn't mean she's in a basement locked up someplace. From what I've seen, she's doing her thing on Broadway, not really making headlines. The last interview I read was a whole lot of nothing really. And that's not a bad thing in my eyes. Mackies situation is significantly different than Zegler just because of the political stuff. So it's smart of her to stay out of the weeds for while.

Lol, I don't want to guess your age, but lets just say I'm probably right around your same age based on the way you post and the references you've made over the years. I just happen to be on social media.

As far as her social media presence, she is very active, primarily using Instagram Reels for posts (as the young people do) rather than actual "posts" with some posts on X for promotional purposes. So she is post several times a day via Reels, if not more.

That’s why my previous comment said exactly the same thing… that it’s blown over so quickly because people know what he meant, most agree with him, and realize he just worded his comment poorly.

If Disney does have paid media lying for them...

1. You would think that over the years there'd be someone who blew the whistle on this. Otherwise, this is a conspiracy that requires hundreds of people to be quiet about it, which is unlikely.

2. You would think that Disney would pay for good reviews of *all* their movies. And yet, as you and other point out with schadenfreude delight that certain Disney movies get bad reviews. There were people just recently pointing out Mufasa's poor critics score. Why weren't they paid off?

IOW... LOL.

I am not on Social Media for the most part…. I can attest to this…. I just learned about Reels a few weeks ago from some of the younger people at my work…. Who say they spend almost all of their social media time on Reels these days….X (Twitter) seams to be past it’s prime

Reels?...?

Do I need Reels? Is Reels good for me? Should I first check with my doctor before getting Reels?

Yep, way off topic (when are we never off topic) Reels was Instagrams answer to TikTok and other short form video services (anyone remember Vine?).

And when TikTok started running into disruptions and fears of being shutdown over the last 4-5 years, for reasons I won't get into here, and Reel started adding more features and accessible to more demographics, people started to use the feature more and more until its become more dominant with the masses. Now TikTok is still more popular, especially with Gen Z, but Reel is a very competitive number 2.
