Cantina de San Angel heading into the lagoon

Yep. You can bet that on any day, there will be people in position at least 2 hours before the show, some even before that.

I can't imagine wasting that much time just to have a seat for the show. We travel in the lighter seasons, usually May and September, and never have trouble finding a decent spot for Illuminations (or Wishes for that matter) at 20-30 minutes before showtime.

To each their own I guess. But boy, another 90 minutes of other attractions and enjoying the stroll around World Showcase is defintely more important to me!

The new pictures definitely seem to indicate building into the waterfront. Should be interesting to see how they allocate that seating/standing room for Illuminations. Maybe bring over the fastpass concept from WoC for standing room? But I agree that they are more likely to charge for it somehow.

I imagine all of the seating on the waterfront side will be for table service guests only, similar to Rose and Crown, and the seating for counter service will all be on the promenade side, with the actual restaurant building in between.

The table service seating will be inside against the floor to ceiling windows. The counter service will be on the pier.

There will be 2 piers, 2 outside seating areas, one shaped like an octagon with covered seating which will be used for table service. Then another rectangular shaped pier seating area which is closer to the promenade which will be used for counter service.

I have heard different plans for their usage, the latest I heard was the counter service pier will be used for CS during the day and then at night it will be converted to table service.

That's cool news. :)

Are there any drawings or blueprints floating around? I've been trying to keep up to date on these new restaurant expansions, but I figure I might have missed something.

You haven't; no one's posted any blueprints or depictions of either the new Cantina or the restaurant in Italy. I guess we'll just have to wait and see....

Has the plan for the table service being indoors scrapped?

Indoors will be all table service and outdoors will be a combination of uses. I think they will be flexible depending on the demand.

Yes, my feeling is they will have to do something along these lines or people will camp out for illuminations. My guess is they will sell Dinner/Show packages and schedule seating for Illuminations.

An update on this over at the Disney Blog

We just heard more details and got a peek at the menus for the all-new La Hacienda de San Angel and the adjacent La Cantina de San Angel. La Cantina gets a facelift and stays!

The new 250-seat La Hacienda will only be open for dinner and expands the South-of-the Border offerings. The La Cantina opens daily at 11 a.m. with 150 outdoor seats.

The new La Cantina menu will initially offer chicken and beef tacos on fresh handmade corn tortillas, nachos, a cheese empanada, guacamole and chips and churros.

La Hacienda will open daily at 4 p.m. and the initial menu will feature starters like queso fundido (warm cheese with poblano pepper and chorizo); a taco trio with rib eye, roasted chicken and pork; and traditional black bean soup. Entrées include a mixed grill for two with flank steak, chicken, chorizo and vegetables (a seafood version features grouper, shrimp and scallops); roasted shrimp in pepper garlic broth; flank steak with spring onions, refried beans and cactus leaves; and grilled red snapper with roasted corn and cactus leaves. Dessert? Chocolate churros, sweet tamales and fruit empanadas.

Delicioso!
