Can you still ride up front in the pilot's area on the monorail?

Just curious. I use to ride up in the pilot's spot often when I was young. I know that the unfortunate accident happened a year or two ago, but I don't know if they allow it any more.

and no, he was not an adorable toddler.. he was fifteen years old.

Nope, we asked about 5 times on our trip for New Years Eve, and each answer was the same. Until further notice, there will be no ride along with the pilot.

Really? He was able to ride in the monorail with the pilot?

Guests are absolutely forbidden from riding with the driver until further notice. Perhaps they allowed him to sit in the pilot's chair while they monorail was in station?

I've rode with the pilot 2 or 3 times, and I'm 26. But, I was allowed when there weren't many people getting on the monorail.

His question though is recently. After the monorail accident, there are no ride alongs allowed anymore. Are you saying you've done this recently?

Regardless of what people claim, no guests have rode in the cab since 7/5/09. Technically monorail cast members aren't even allowed to ride in front when going from station to station. Only the pilot is to be in the cab tho that rule gets broken from time to time ;-)

I thought that the program has been put on hold since the accident, they just released the ntsb report last year. I think that any recommendations that they submitted have to be implemented and then studied before they let any non-disney people in the front of the mono-rail.

In short WDW= No Disneyland = Yes and here's why....

Ok my friends, once more for the "cheap seats" (no pun intended) You CAN ride with the Pilot at Disneyland, but not at Disney World. The reasons are several, and well chosen: The Pilots would have been bombarded by questions about the death of a friend, the NTSB takes a long time to run a complete investigation as does OSHA, Disney World has many more Monos (11 I think) and the more complex switch station, ours just goes in a loop so-to-speak and not least of all, WDW is run by the transportation team, DL is more of a "ride-operator" kind of deal. Pilots have less to worry about going in a circle. I've heard they may return to allowing it, but frankly I'd be surprised. I do think it's time Disney re-thinks the operators roles on all motion rides, when human lives are at risk, I admit I find it unsavory to have chatty college-aged girls running the rides and minutes later I'll walk by a 40 year old sweeping the grounds. I don't mean to add "age-ism" but it's not stereotyping when it's just plain true. Don't bother telling me you know more, I have gone every week for a decade and know many staffers by name or face. Ten years ago I ran a very popular restaurant and one of my servers, a man near 50 ran "Alice in Wonderland", he took his job very seriously, it's why we hired him working alongside 22 year old kids. If I were to recant my visits in the last month I'd tell you about the girls running Fantasyland rides gabbing away with their backs to the attraction they were operating. These are rides any 4 year old could jump in front of, one visit to the Hat Shop on Main St I listened to 2 girls audibly griping about their jobs, Autopia staffers so busy trying to do their closing duties that the "stager" couldn't get her team to line up the cars. She was clearly bewildered and the park was still 30 min from closing time. I could add 5 more stories and that's on 4 trips per month. Disneyland has gone waaay down in the quality of new hires (some of you are still amazing if you're reading) but the number of cheerful, effervescent cast members has seriously faded. I see kids with the post-punk hair/makeup just "downplayed", not the fresh-faced kids they used to hire. Second ticket price increase in under a year and service is going the wrong way. No one loves Diz more than I, but being a manager for 20 years myself, these are things that any trained eye would see. If Disney were smart, they'd hire independent "pro-shoppers" to see what's happening to our beloved park. I pay nearly $1500 a year for 3 AP's, so that's my 2 cents..

I think that they will let guests ride in the front again, though I can see them making it as part of some kind of deluxe hotel package.

Personally, I do not seem them allowing it again until the monorails are replaced, if they do at all. This is simply because the existing monorails have next to zero impact protection. I am assuming that this is because the thought of 2 monorails colliding with each other was considered impossible.
