Sorry, I didn't mean to downplay you or anyone else's experiences. I guess spontaneous can mean different thing to different people.

The post I quoted was more along the lines of what I was thinking. Just thining about it one moment, then being on the road or in the air within minutes or hours.

Again, I apologize for making you feel bad about your trip.

Everyone else, let's keep hearing about it!!!

It's OK, but I think you are correct, it can vary per family.

Twice, I have decided at the last minute to go to WDW. The first time was in 1985. My girlfriend and I were sitting in a bar and I was telling her I was going to be off work for a week and hated sitting home. I had just gotten my 1985 Mustang GT. She said "Let's go to WDW". Two days later we were off, with no reservations. It was the weekend after Labor Day and the parks were empty. We had a blast.
The next time was in 1996. I was again boo-hooing about staying home with nowhere to go. My husband got the time off, and we left the next day. His mom was po'd that we snuck off like that because we had gone in March. But hey, she wasn't paying for it! We got the Contemporary for $129.00 nite in Ocala. We also found out Jr. gets car sick!

Last year i decided that i NEEDED to spend my B-day in Disney. We always go for everyone else bday, but never mine. At about 10 am i decided we were goin. Dindt tell my mom and just started booking a flight and a room. It tok me FOREVER to find a room being that it was Easter week, but i finally got everything. My mom got home at 3 and wanted to kno why the suitcases were out. I told her we were getting on a plane at 6am for Disney. Well once i picked her jaw off the floor, she freaked but was then quite happy. It was the MOST expensive trip we have EVER had, but it was the best. It was insanely crowded but we had a good time doin all the stuff we hadnt done in along time (the less popular rides) Id have to say this is the most spur of the moment thing ive ever done but it was great. were goin back this year but the week before Easter so hopefully it wont be as bad. Atleast some planning went into this ( planned it 3 days ago) but i cant stop thinkin about us bein ther in 38 days!

:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :D :D :D

The most spontaneous trip I ever had was one that was decided on the spur of the moment while driving across the Tappan Zee bridge in New York in February. Of course, we didnt leave for Disney until June, but the decision to go was spontaneous!

Living in NY, and not being a flyer kind of limits spontaneity (sp?) for trips exceeding 1000 miles. I have come home on a Thursday night, packed a bag and left for the Jersey shore after work the following day though. Or turned a trip to the Danbury Mall into a trip to Foxwoods :animwink:

I think that there are different kinds of excitement. There is DEFINITE excitement in doing something like going to Disney on the spur of the moment (something I would love to do right now if I werent nursing a burgeoning migrane), just like there is excitement buildup for a trip planned carefully months in advance.

After all, a trip to Disney is a trip to Disney. Excitement abounds whether the trip is planned to the last detail or fly by the seat of your pants.

All I know is I WANNA GOOO!!!!!!!!!

Closest my wife and I ever came to a spontainious trip to Disney was in June of 2001.

The last week of May 2001 I knew I would be traveling to Detroit for business starting on Tuesday for a meeting Wensday. On Monday My boss called me to his office and asked if I was interested in extending my trip for a meeting with one of our smaller clients. Our client had a meeting with EPCOT Creative Operations of all people. The meeting was Thursday so I would have to fly directly from Detroit to Orlando Wensday night. After hemming and hawing for about a millionth of a microsecond I said yes. The Friday of that week (June 1) also just happened to be my wife and my 16th anniversary. For the rest of the day Monday I scrambled around trying to get Reservations on site, arrainge a flight for my wife and get some one to watch our four kids. The office Manager helped get me a flight down for my wife on Friday early in the morning, made arraingements for a rental car which I needed for my meeting any way. I flew our Tuesday morning had my meetings in Detroit and flew to Orlando Wendsay night. I picked up my rental car, got lost on the way to the Radisson (sp) near Downtown Disney (just outside the gates) and checked in. It was an ok hotel, spent the night, got ready for my meeting at EPCOT the next morning and checked out. The meeting went great. We were going to be involved in designing and building the Sam Adams display and beer tasting pavillion at the 2001 Food and Wine Festival. The meeting went great and I gathered all the info I need to do what I had to do.

After the meeting I went to lunch with some friends from Imagineering and then went to check into the Wilderness Lodge for Thursday night through Sunday. All I have to say is that hotel is Awsome! The only thing was I wished my wife had been there so we could of shared that first moment of walking into the hotel and checking in.

I picked my wife up at the airport Friday morning and we spent the rest of the week enjoying our selves. The Magic Kingdom was packed but we were able to have fun anyway...

Sorry this was so long......

Please...I wake up in my own bed and I'm at the Jersey Shore...(LBI) It's crowded smelly and dirty, I don't see why everyone loves it so much.

But anyway...when I was little, about 4 or 5 (before my sister was born) my parents would just plop me in the backseat at the spur of the moment and before i knew it (well, two days later) we'd be in Florida....Those were the days. We bareley even packed...

Well, my aunt and uncle were going to Disney World and I was supposed to go with them, but I didn't pack or anything cuz my dad didnt have the money to send me...so on the day they were leaving, my dad got the money and I had to pack really fast and then leave..lol..i dunno if that counts, but that was pretty 'last minute' for me! :)

Interesting!!!

I've done spontaneous before but never to Disney. I know I would if I had that extra money laying around (which I don't at the moment)!!! I did suprise my husband with a Disney cruise vacation for his 50th birthday so to him that was pretty spontaneous. We gave it to him and he was SHOCKED, he said he couldn't go because he didn't have vacation time taken for that week, I told him he did because I arranged it with his boss. We left a couple of days after he got the trip and he said it was the best ever!!!!
