Can someone please explain the E-Tickets

We had Magic Kingdom Club tickets back in 1976. My father wouldnt let us waste them on the Main Street "A" ticket rides so he bought us a book with "A"s in them. Im willing to bet that if I dig some boxes out of the attic I will find unused tickets in them. (I cleaned out an old desk and found ticket stubs from the Kennedy Space Center from 1976...when you actually toured that hangar thats off limits now)

I still have (omg, it makes me sound like such a keeper) the tshirt that I got back in 1976. It has Mickey, Goofy and Donald portraying "The Spirit of 76" since it was the BiCentennial year. Yikes. Its old, the sleeve is ripped (because I wore it every chance I got...going all the way to Florida...BY TRAIN...was a big deal when you were 11 in 1976  and its yellowed with age, but its always stashed at the back of a lesser used dresser drawer :D

LOL! True enuf.

It's just that I have my itinerary planned out in advance, so I already know which park I'm going to do on which day, so if I get lucky, I get to go to the park early.

Why did they drop the original program? Was it just costing to much to open the parks earlier? Not enough guests taking advantage of it?

As I recall, the old Early Entry program was for one park each day. It seems to me that guide books advised staying away from the EE park because crowds were heavier.

Someone with an old Birnbaum's guide could confirm this.

And, yes, I'm pretty sure EE was discontinued in Oct 2001 after crowds disappeared after 9/11. It was a way to cut costs.

The extra magic hour is identical to the early entry of the past as far as procedures. When you get there you get a guide at your resort that tells what parks and what days. There will be a line at the park on its day that is designated Disney Resort Guests Only. Unfortunately when I was there in Novemeber these were the LONGEST lines and no one was checking for resort tix.

My wife and I did early entry the first day of our honeymoon in May 2001. We really scraped to go to Disney and had gift certiifcates at the Downtown Disney Marriot making the cost only $1 that first night. Unfortunately we didn't get the priceline.com deal everyone else was getting at the time, so we got a crumby hotel for the rest of the honeymoon that was off-site and not applicable for EE. But since we were barely at the hotel and at Disney as much as possible during the day, it wasn't really a problem.

Anyway, since we only stayed at the Marriot for that first night and the following morning was an EE (and also my 25th birthday), we got up early (after the 14-hour drive the day before) to take advantage. They WERE checking hotel card keys at the gate and since we only stayed one night at the Marriot, we had already turned in our room key, so the gate people at the MK gave us a really hard time about letting us in. My receipt for the Marriot that stay clearly said we were entitled to EE. I didn't want to argue on the first day of our honeymoon and my birthday, so I just told them the hotel took our keys since we only had one night and that I could show them the receipt, but I would need to go all the way back to the hotel to get to our car (we took the bus that day). By the time we got back EE would be well over. At that they just waved us through. Thank God the rest of the honeymoon didn't all go down like that. I almost felt like I was going to get jipped out of the EE I was entitled to. Could have been a bad birthday/start to a honeymoon if they were any stricter.
