They don't really are used anymore.. When WDW opened they were used for the Big Attractions.. Now its just a term used for the rides like. BTMR SM etc.. They have E nights. :)

E-ticket is just a phrase used to describe a big ride, such as might have a fastpass nowadays.

It came about from when you used to buy tickets to get onto each ride. I believe you gots lots of A tickets, less B tickets, all the way down to E tickets, which would get you onto the popular rides!

Correct. When WDW first opened you received a ticket booklet upon paying admission. (I kind of remember this from 1978) You receive A,B,C,D, & E tickets. There were always less of the A's than the others. Anyway, you used the A's, B's,C's, & D's for the less exciting rides like Dumbo, IASW, etc. Space Mountain however required an E ticket to ride. A CM would just rip one of the corresponding tickets out when you got to the front of the queue. I think one of the parks, outside of the U.S. still uses this system.

A rides: main street trolley, cars, cinema. 10cents
B rides: Dumbo. 25cents
C rides: Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, Snow White, Swiss Family tree. 50 cents
D rides: Tiki room, Mickey Mouse Review, Speedway, Skyway, Flight to the moon. 75cents
E rides: Jungle Cruise, Pirates, (there were no TMRR or SM but sure they would have been E), HM, Hall of Presidents (it used to have a long, long line when people cared about America), 20K Leagues, Space Mtn. 90cents

With your $6.25 entry, you got a certain number of free tickets, A-E. Usually only about 3 E's I believe. You could buy extra at the above prices. If you were in the Magic Kingdom Club (which you could only get through your employer) you would get an entry with ALL E-tickets, about nine of em or so.

Can't remember some. I've got a bunch of old tickets at home and they list the rides. I'll try to remember to post the ones I can't rmember like Tom Sawyer island, frontierland shooting gallery, teacups, swan boats, carousel, etc. (Alas, I have no old e-tickets:cry: , but do have a few of the MKClub "E" tickets.)

Edit: There are a few errors in this post. See my post on the other A-E ticket thread:

That is actually really helpful. I always used to think that the 'E' just used to stand for something that summarises all the better rides. How much would $6.95 be in todays value?

Well in this case, that $6.25 admission is worth $50 plus tax now.

about the long lines for HoP....

the covered area to the left of the building, that now houses the place that you can get your picture drown, used to be the Queue for this attraction. If you look close you can still see the ''stantion'' plugs where the poles for the ropes where, and there is still loops on the poles for ropes. There would be a 2 show wait for this attaction. Keeping in mind it holds 750 guests, you would have another 750 waiting in the preshow, with 100's more waiting outside.

BUT i wouldn't say that the crowds dont go there anymore because people dont care about the USA, wile that might be true for some, i think part of the reason is that there is more to do now, right in that area.

BEFORE.....Horseshoe, HoP,Mansion, 2 Riverboats, after 73' Tom Sawers, CBJ
NOW....all that (less one Riverboat RIP...) plus BTMRR, and Splash.....both attractions that can hold nearly 1000 guests each in the queue alone. So i think we have just spaced guests out more.

But you are right, if you look at the original attractions, they all use to have much greater queues then they do now...

Riverboat.....use to run 2 boats, thats 400 each.

Keelboats....2 boats, only did 250 guests per hour, but had 30-45 min waits

Davy Crockets....low low capacity, just 12 boats of 10-12 each, but could have waits.

Tiki.....you could count on the pre show being ful at the start of it, and might have a short wait to get in.

PotC.....on most days, the Queue was rapping around the entrance way, with 30 min waits at least.

TreeHouse....here is a great example, when was the last time anyone had to wait in the Queue they have downstairs near the water, in fact most dont even realiz its there.....i reamber seeing the line backed up to the bridge.

WDWRR...did you know the mainsteet station inside part use to be a rapping queue area on busy days, now you hardly ever dont get on the next train.

just a few examples of some CLASSICS and beloved favorites that use to generate LONG lines, now most of these close early, like TiKi, CBJ, WDWRR (due to Fireworks) HoP, Riverboat.
I mean come on, the Horseshow Review use to be RESERVATIONS ONLY, and if you didnt get them early, forget it, NOW its about to be closed.

Killing the magic..........:(

According to an inflation calculator, $6.25 in 1978 would be approx. $17.56 in 2001.

$50.00 (approx today's admission price)
- $17.56
________
= $32.44

Hey! I think we're being ripped off!

ok, ok, I realize nobody's prices can stay the same for 25 years:(

Actually, the original "E" tickets did not include Space Mountain, it was not built until 1975. I still have some of the original unused ticket booklets from 1971. I also have some from 1976, when Space Mountain had been added. It was a very different time. I asked a CM once, and they said that your could still trade those tickets in for "fair market value" towards the purchase of a current ticket. Of course, I would never do that.
