Can mistake of PotC be "fixed"?

if I remember Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom right, it ends up portraying the preservationist views to be a little obstinate.

the reason people hate the imagination rehab is because its now a completely different ride. they could upgrade PotC with new technology without making a completely new ride, simply upgrading and mantaining a classic.

PoTC...

Can they add new effects and upgraded AAs? Sure.

Can they add new scenes to make it comprable to DL? Nope.

Simply not enough room. Truly, the one at DL is far superior.

That pneumatic hissing sound that's supposed to simulate the cannon-fire between the Pirate ship and the city perimeter defenses.

And here I was thinking that that was one of the best attentions to details. Cannonballs hitting the water wouldn't go boom - it's water! They would hiss as they hit the watter, and I imagine you would also get a whishing sound as they flew over head. Not that I have ever been attacked by cannons, mind you, but that is what I would imagine...

In the end, I think the book made the protagonist reconsider some of the wholesale attraction-slaughter that was done simply for the sake of doing it.

Yes -- a complete refit can be done, but should it be done? I'm not so sure. I'm far from a purist but Pirates isn't something dated like the original Imagination ride -- Groovy 70's-style cheese is about as appealing as a brick through the window.

Just my opinion, though.

The BOOM (sorry -- the BOOM!)would come from the powder exploding from the inside of the cannons themselves. It's never loud enough to please my Surround-Sound expectations. It just sounds like hissing to me.

Agreed but the one in Disneyland Paris is still the best (IMHO).

New lighting installed as of 3/30...

The backdrop has been lit up behind the 'Bride auction' scene.
You can tell (I can tell) because now a blue/purple lighting showers the ride-building wall behind the scene, showing all the ripples and imperfections in the old foundation. It also takes away from the clouds on the ceiling.

I'm torn on the whole thing. I've noticed so many 'minor' changes over the years (mostly lighting).

Do I want a better PotC? Yes...
I don't want changes that take away from the current effects.

Bring back the "NON-PC" version! I don't know too many pirates that would act as polite as these guys do!

Here are the things that need to be improved on POTC:

The cannon effects. The cannons at WDW make a hissing sound. While at DL, they make a BOOM and shoot lots of smoke.

The Gun effect. The gun effect here at WDW is pitiful compared to DL's. All ours do is just light up at the end and a gun shot noise is heard. Pretty pathetic. At DL, it lights up, shoots smoke out of the end, and has a gun shot sound.

Improve the night sky effect. I was so dissapointed when I saw the loading area at WDW with just a plain black roof supposed to look like the night sky. I was also dissapointed when I saw very vissable lighting equipment up there. I think they should do the same indoor night time effect that they have at DL complete with moon.

Maybe add a lift at the end of the ride. Since the boats go up a lift to get to the loading dock anyway, why not add it as a part of the "going up the water fall back to present day" with the dead men tell no tales voice in the back round as you see remains of pirates who killed each other because of their greed for gold.

That caught my attention!! Did they really make changes to the ride to conform to the annoying realm of 'PC'? I used to go to WDW a lot when I was younger, but missed a whole bunch of years in between then and now, so I never noticed the changes myself.

What sort of things were different? I'd love to hear about it.

One thing I know is the pirates used to chase the women. Now the women chase the pirates. I think there used to be a "naked woman" in one of the barrels.

I find that hard to belive but if there is a picture or some more people could confirm this I would be interested. I was looking at old pics and didnt see anything.

What time frame was this?

Thanks

The scene was : the pirate sitting up against the barrel was talking to the cat about the lost girl (who is hiding in the barrel)...
If you ever get the chance to buy/hear the soundtrack to PoC, there is an origional cut on there, along with the new version, that will explain my point to the tee. (VERY risque talk about taking advantage of her when he finds her!)

Yes, the pirates chased the women...and the AA's were MUCH more animated than going around on spinning wheels!

...amongst other things.

...and NO, she was never seen naked...

you put two-and-two together when her head and her top half, slightly covered by her hand and a cloth, came out of the barrel.

how were they more animated? I only remember ever seeing them go round and round. Also, besides what's already been listed, what are some of the other changes you hinted at as 'other things'? I think it would be nice to have a complete list of the changes for reference.

I remember growing up and how much I looked forward to riding PoTC at WDW on every visit. I didn't get to ride DL's version until I was much older and out of college. I was really impressed. Now, going back to WDW, the ride just doesn't have the same feeling after seeing how Walt originally envisioned it. However, its still an enjoyable ride.

Of course, I visited DLP last September and couldn't believe how much cooler their version is. I mean the whole thing is almost in complete reverse from the DL version. Talk about thinking outside the box! and the sword fight rocks!

All that said, I agree that WDW needs to update their version a little bit. I think its great that each park has their own version really (except for TDL...I think they got an exact replica).
