I'm interested in eating at Ohana or doing the hawaiian dinner party thing(name escapes me, just saw on planning DVD). For our next trip, though, we are stayin off property. Is it still possible to head over to the Poly for food? Is Ohana ressies only?

You can park or get a taxi to the Transportation center (TTC), and take the monorail or walk to the Polynesian, then head upstairs to Ohana - not a problem even if you are not a guest.

You should definitely try to make a reservation though.

You can eat at any dining location on property no matter where you are staying. Reservations are recommended at Ohana (and anywhere else for that matter) and I have seen them turn people away who don't have them. If you want to go to the Luau, you must purchase tickets ahead of time. If you are dining at the resort, you can park there. Only for a limited time, and they will tow your car as the parking lot at the Poly is not very big and it is reserved for resort guests.

Your money is just as good as anyone else's. I don't think Ohanas is technically "reservations only" but it's such a popular restaurant they often can't take walkups. Maybe if you show up right when they open, or very very late, close to closing. But you'd be incredibly lucky if you were to get there at prime dinner hours and get in without a reservation.

I highly recommend making a ressie...both are very popular.
