Camping In Tent at FW

So who has ever camped in a tent at FW? I'm considering it because I love the outdoors and its something new to try. (Plus I love the scenery FW has to offer.) I'm assuming in the hot months it has to be pretty brutal, but the winter months probably offer some really nice cool nights. Any comments?

Wow, as an avid (as my friends say: insane) tent camper, I'm very excited about camping at Disney World now! Darn, ya'll have convinced me to take another trip in the fall! :D

:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:You pretty much summed up all of my posts. I told my husband about this thread and teasingly asked if he would want to tent camp at WDW and he gave me the :eek::eek: look.

Maybe we're just getting old!

C'mon now. Camping ain't that bad and I'm sure its a pleasant stay at FW. Haha. Maybe as a college student I still have the "adventure side" in me?

Do the campsites at Fort Wilderness have charcoal grills? I don't see being able to take our camp stove on the plane and we'd like to grill a couple of meals. Thanks,
Paul

Camping at FW is awesome! The campground has sooooo much to offer. It is very clean. When you book, ask for a prefered site (you will be closer to the boat docks) it will cost a little more, but it is worth it. Also, ask for a site near the bath house, they have some that are right next to them. When we go, we stay in our motorhome, but my oldest and her husband took a tent last time (Oct) and had no problems. The year before,(in Dec.) we put up a tent for our boys to sleep in. A few nights they used a heater, but my oldest son said that they would have been fine without it.
Check out the FW site to see all they have to offer, the campground is great! Have a great time.

I'm also flying down, but with three other people. And since airlines are being a pain about extra baggage, we're trying to combine all clothes into 2 suitcases with the sleep/tent gear in 2 others. So hopefully we won't get whacked by a stupid fee for having a second bag.

Same situation as me! When are you guys going?

I haven't actually seen the tent we're supposedly using, but my friend assures me it's small and light (you could hike with it in a backpack, she says). I plan on having us all pack our clothes together too, and hoping the sleeping bags don't make our bags so large they go over the size limit.

We camped at FW in late April and early May in 2007. Heat wasn't a problem and it only rained one day. Bugs weren't a problem either, but tiny lizards were everywhere! The bathrooms and showers were very clean! This was in a pop-up not a tent on the ground. We loved FW. If we make it back in 2010 we're going to stay at FW again.

We will be "tenting" this coming Saturday for the first time. I have been staying in Ft Wilderness since it opened in trailers, and this time of year is the best as the weather is usually nice and it is crazy the amount of Christmas decorations people put up outside of their motorhomes/trailers. I can't wait.

Wouldn't that be a "cabin" ? :)
Well, yes. I just think an RV is cool and I have never stayed in one so staying in one at my favorite place would be fun! Staying at my favorite place in the back of my SUV would be fun, in a tent would be fun, in a cabin would be fun.....you get the idea!

Have fun! I'm jealous! I would love to see the decorations for Christmas again. People really decorate their sites very well :xmas:. You can tell some stay there awhile over the Holidays. That would be a dream of mine, to stay the month of December at the campground hanging out......

My DH is 6'4" and we have never really tried camping in the back of his SUV but we could, technically.....a Toyota 4 Runner without the seats and he could have all the leg room he wanted. I would love to give it a try, just once. Throw caution to the wind, take off and drive to WDW and camp for a few days. I have a bad case of travel fever, I think it is caused by not going to WDW enough this past year!
