Camp Minnie-Mickey to close in 2014

I feel like it will close once the mine train is ready to open. Not sure why but that's my gut feeling. Also the festival of the Lion King theater has to be finished, unless they want some downtime before they open the new location.

Id say the day after they move lion king to the new building will be the day they start tearing it down. Slow to build things as they are, they are usually pretty fast about destroying.

This is my expectation as well - I wouldn't be surprised if they start some demo before then.

Since they're likely moving some of the show pieces to the new theater, I'd guess that there will be at least some downtime between the show closing and reopening in Africa. Hopefully they'll choose to do this during a slower period when it won't cripple the rest of the park. Shows are great for eating guests!

I'm hoping Avatar will open all at once. New Fantasyland obviously had to open in stages after the major design changes, but it really has taken away from the wow factor for me so far. I really like what is already open in NFL, but it is really hard to fully appreciate it with a construction zone right in the middle of it all.

It will be nice to finally have something substantial in that corner of AK. CMM always felt exactly like the afterthought that it was. I'm still not entirely sold on using Avatar as the theme, but a full fledged land over there will be a welcome addition.

Can we go yet?

So...no work is going to be done in 2013? How long did New Fantasyland take again? Not sad it's going, the only thing I liked about that area is the fishing Mickey and friends by that river. xD (Besides FOTLK of course)

Fantasyland, when completely finished, would have taken about 4.5 years to build.

You know, for an unthemed temporary non-land I think CMM not unpleasant to stroll through. The little stream, Huey Dewey and Louis, Donald and Goofy and Mickey fishing, Pocahontas having her little show or being out and about, the North American foliage and setting, it is all reasonably nice for what it is.

Not an alternative to a fully developed land of course. But for a temporary solution it was surprisingly enough more pleasant than some developed parts of the four parks.

Finally something appears about to happen. Still, with no date yet determined, doesn't exactly sound like its going to be early 2014.

Wonder if the 2017 date will hold or slip further? I'll say this for Disney, this isn't a project they're trying to rush through development.

Demolition will start Spring 2014 and Avatar Land will Summer 2017

Typical paul pressler mall manniquin figures thrown around the area as "themeing". So happy this is finally being removed

You mean when it was initially announced in 2009 it had completion of 2012, then amendments happened and ended up being 2014.

I am one member of probably a small minority who will miss CMM. We've spent a good number of hours there with the characters. It always felt quiet and lush and secluded and had nice restrooms, as well as that guy that improvises songs (Guitar Dan?) We enjoyed the dearly departed Pocahontas show. I loved it when Thumper and Miss Bunny were down there.

Sure it's not highly themed and not the best use of space. But it's been a lovely part of my kid's early childhood. Farewell and thanks CMM!

What I am most curious about is how this land will open. While interesting, I felt that the numerous soft openings of NFL really dulled any impact it could have had if opened all at once. I still think that it could have impressed if all areas of NFL opened simultaneously, including the 7DMT.

In the case of Avatar, I definitely think it should be opened all at once. The supposed size of this, along with the newness, could provide for quite the grand opening. Even the people that aren't that up for this expansion will probably still go to walk through it when it opens. Also, I feel that this land can be amazing even though the Avatar storyline is very simple minded. All of this hype has caused me to watch some of the scenes last night - specifically the scenes with the Hallelujah Mountains. From a pure visual standpoint, it is probably the most impressive movie I have seen to date. IMO, it is perfect for a theme park. The merits of whether or not it belongs in AK are arguable, but this park needs more "stuff", and a soaring over Pandora ride could be awesome, and everyone seems to want the boat ride. I think that the posters that clearly have a negative view point of this expansion will still go to see it and will also go on the rides after it opens.

Now I shall pray that Cameron keeps applying the pressure and doesn't let them value engineer this down the toilet! I stated someone else on here that Cameron doesn't do things half-assed. His story lines aren't always something to write home about, but you can see the effort he puts into his movies and the chances he takes as a director (i.e., Titanic going waayyyy over budget). From an eye-candy and visual effects perspective, he is amazing, especially if you think about how he gets so many people to watch his movies even though they don't really have great stories or dialogue (aside from Avatar, I always felt that The Abyss falls into this category...maybe that is why he is hiring other people to write some of the Avatar sequels). Who knows, maybe he should have been more involved with theme park design/construction. What he excels at in movie making (visuals, excitement) are the things that can make theme parks extraordinary experiences. Aliens, Terminators 1 and 2, True Lies (a great movie), Titanic, The Abyss, Avatar - incredible action and visuals. Oh yeah, apparently he also directed Piranha II: The Spawning. Can't say that I saw that... makes me wonder what he could have done with Sharknado.

I wonder if those figures are going to reused in any way. Like that one in the quote or in the picture below?

With the days of CMM numbered, will they be destroyed or spared in any way?
