now you sound like my wife!! :ROFLOL:
she said the same thing, but we only get to go to WDW once every 2 or 3 years, so i record as much as possible to help me through the withdrawls. plus, the hopper AA is pretty cool. but the movie, yeah, kinda blurry. :ROFLOL:

Thank you for clearing that up. I was wondering the same thing...

I think it helps if you put the 3-D glasses over the camera lens. It comes out flat, but it's also not blurry
Has anyone managed to record The American Adventure? I've seen older versions taped and it's my favorite show in Epcot so I would love to have it preserved.

i can confirm that it DOES NOT help to wear 3D glasses while watching the video at home. i've tried every possible type of 3D glasses i could get my hands on and nothing works!!!

No you don't wear them at home, you just put one lens of the glasses over the lens while filming so it doesn't appear blurry at home when you watch. It is impossible with home video equipment to film in 3D.

yeah, i understand, but for some reason i was thinking that if i just had the glasses at home it would work too. i will know better next time! i still don't understand why my eyes see it blurry w/o glasses on at the show, but when i put glasses on its 3D. it looks to be the same exact type of blurry at home watching my tapes, but glasses do nothing for it.

It's a double projection that you are looking at. The glasses are polarized so that each eye only sees one of the projections. Then like a View Master, it appears to be 3D.

When you video the film, it loses certain elements that can't be reproduced by your TV set so that even if you brought the 3D glasses home with you (shame on you:rolleyes:) it still won't work.

That is a very simplistic explanation of the technology, but I hope it helps.:animwink:

thanks! that kinda clears it up. and i didn't take the WDW glasses home with me, but i did go see the Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, and the glasses they give you at the theater appear to be the same kind they use at the parks.

steal from mickey??!! that would just make tickets more expensive for everyone, right?

you just use two camcorders (or two filming takes) with opposite polarization , and reproduce the picture @ home with projectors (opposite polarization filters in front) .. put on your 3d glasses and you have your disney 3d movie @ home ... ok .. maybe thats too complicated .. but it would work

Yeah, that is a bit complicated, and most average joe's don't have the quality stuff that will record film well. So it would still lose the effect.

Thanks everybody for the responses!

My family at home has never seen Disney World, and may never get to. (we live on the west coast)

I am planning on buying a new camcorder simply for this trip...and I hate my old one.

Any suggestions on a good camcorder for use at the parks? (good quality at night would be awesome!)

i've taped Tower of Terror, It's Tough to be a Bug, and Dinosaur, and no one said anything to me. I suppose a lot of it depends on the CM and the mood their in!

I've only been told once (my last visit in September) on Dinosaur no taping, so it may have just been an overzealous CM. There are instances where they suddenly change the policy on an attraction like Impressions De France. I taped it in 1996, 2000, and 2002 with no announcements. I was there twice in 2006 and once in 2007 and in all three instances an announcement was made before the film started.
As for It's Tough to be a Bug, there's a very definite spiel when you're in the waiting area about it - "Nature photography, or photography of any nature, is not allowed in the Bug's Life Theater." Whether or not a CM will say something to you is a crapshoot. I believe Tower of Terror has a similar announcement before you board the elevator. In any event, the CMs I've encountered have always made the announcement before the elevator doors close.
Now, as to whether these announcements have stopped me from trying is a different story altogether. Yes, I'm evil. Probably the only attraction I've never bothered with is Rock n' Rollercoaster because it's just not interesting enough to watch on video, nor is the audio anything I enjoy hearing.
Finally, regarding American Adventure. Oh, yes, it has indeed been taped. Check out Martin's tribute on Mousebits. I've taped it myself, but his is so much better - historical information, source audio, multiple angles. But if anyone gets a great copy of the updated version, stick it on Mousebits right away!

It seems to depend on the cast member.

I have them all, now starting to do them in widescreen.

If they tell me no, then I just try another time. I go all the time so I always get a chance later.

Everyone has seen the "Youtube" videos of attractions, and I am going to Disney World in March and had a question.

Are camcorders allowed on rides? Or are they discouraged? I ask simply because I want to take some on-ride videos for my family, who may never be able to visit Disney World.

Also, it is great to have some video, but I have seen people so focused on getting their video that they don't actually experience any of the stuff first hand. They see everything in the parks through their viewfinders or LCD screens. Relax and enjoy the parks.

I did that for my grandmother before she died and she loved it. I knew it was the only way she'd come close to the experience, and she was more the "Disney World type" than anyone I've ever met. My suggestion is to choose one or two days to film and put it away for the rest of the trip.

Have a great time :)

They can't confiscate your equipment, but they surely can call security who will ask you to leave the park for the day (a.k.a. escort you to the front gate) if you are taping on an attraction where it is not allowed.
and at that point, I'm usually gone and either blended into the crowd, or out of the park :) Disney security takes longer to respond that the real police for real crimes.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
Always yes. I've never been asked to leave a park, and CM's (security CM's included) can not legally detain you. And within my colleagues and friends who share my hobby, none of us have never been asked to leave the park.

I haven't been in a position where I risked ejection from the parks in many years now... and the two sole incidents that could have caused that for me, I left the park in defiance of the CM asking me to wait until security is called. But this was in my younger, more foolish days :) Now I'm smart enough (and have the right toys) to get away with it without CM's catching on :)

As for Disney security... the normal security CM's haven't gotten any better since I was in my teens... in fact I feel that due to their increasing staffing requirements for security CM's, they have actually gotten worse since Disney can't afford to be as choosy as it once was.

Wow...$1,000 for that camcorder...

Maybe I'll look around a little more.

but you get an extreme value for it .. all other cams even near that price range look like toys :)

for the quality check out one of my HD vids on mousebits
