Calling the super-sleuths! I'm looking for Port of Galveston evidence!

I've been looking high and low for an exact date and/or approximate time that the Magic will be arriving in Galveston in September. I've been all over the Port of Galveston's website and done my Googling. I even emailed the Port of Galveston's PR manager person inquiring when the ship is arriving and if there are any welcome events planned with DCL. She basically told me a whole lot of nothing. Not surprising. PR/PIO people are paid to talk in circles without ever giving any useful info. :fork: I know the first sailing of the Magic out of Galveston is set for 9/22 this year. I can't imagine she'll arrive in a new port to pick up passengers for the very first time on the same day she sails out on the first itinerary from that port. Wouldn't they want to pad the schedule just a hair with at least a day to make sure everything with the vendors/services goes down without a hitch?

We're really wanting to find out when the Magic is set to arrive so we can zip down to the island to greet her. We thought if we had an idea when she'd be arriving we could watch her on Marine Tracker. When she got to a certain point we could hop in the car & haul ourselves the hour+ to go see her come thru into the ship channel maybe even by where the ferries cross. Then we could run over to the port to see her dock. General geek antics, I know, but it'd be so fun to do. I know others who live within a few hours of the port who wanted to do the same.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows of other entities who might be keeping a schedule we can dig up to see what day and/or approximate time the Magic is set to arrive without getting the Homeland Security people knocking on my door. The old man does maintain his TWIC card for work so it's not like he's such a danger to port operations!

Okay, it looks like the last NYC 5 night cruise to Canada is 9/12. So what is she doing form 9/17 to 9/22 is the question. There will obviously be some kind of repositioning cruise. No word on it though!

I wonder how quickly they can get from NYC to Galveston?

I read no repo cruise from NY-->PC and also PC-->Galveston because of the requirement to stop in another country or something like that. I dunno. Weird. Both would be cool itineraries. Or even NY directly to Galveston.

Right, I don't think the repo cruise will be open to the public. It will have to repo though! I don't know how fast it can get there. Would it take all 5 days without stops?

We need a nautical expert!!

Oh geez. I'm totally not calling Dad. I talked to him earlier this morning. I swear, talking to him is like Forrest's Box of Chocolates: you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes it's as normal as talking to the neighbor and sometimes it's wacked-out hum-dingers from left field. :hammer::lol:

When the Magic returns from its last Canadian itinerary on September 17, it will then leave for Galveston, arriving on September 22. The ship will then sail 12 seven-night cruises from that port on September 22 and 29; October 6, 13, 20, and 27; November 3, 10, 17, and 24; and December 1 and 8. This leaves the Magic with an undetermined itinerary from December 15 through the end of the year. We’ll have to wait to see what future press releases tell us about. Guests on this Western Caribbean will start with two days at sea, followed by stops at Grand Cayman, Caymen Islands; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Cozumel, Mexico, before a final day at sea and the return to Galveston. Cost for this itinerary starts at $840 per person, double occupancy, for a standard inside stateroom.

FWIW... We just booked a 7 day out of Galveston on Sept 29th. :)

Wow! So they are going to turn it around on the same day. Interesting. Very cool on your upcoming cruise. I'd love to sail out of Galveston because it would be soooo convenient but the prices got so high so fast. That's a good thing, tho. Means its selling well!

More than likely they may have the first order from vendors set to arrive the day before so they have time to catch any issues, but don't forget, they do this many many times every year - and they deal with vendors who are used to doing this at the ports regularly.

Check TV listings, I believe the travel channel, there is a show that is on now and then that shows the planning and precision that goes into turning a ship around. They have it down to a science.

Definitely. I hear ya. I think my crazy self thinks the world works the same way I do. If I'm going somewhere new I'm checking the details twice and planning to arrive waaaay before I have to just in case the unexpected happens or in case I misjudged something. :)
