California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort Changes Check-In Process

California Grill now provides dining check-in for guests at a podium located on the second floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Guests with Priority Seating or those wishing to enjoy the California Grill lounge, will be escorted by a California Grill Cast Member in an elevator exclusively reserved for California Grill diners.

The relocation of the California Grill podium will allow guests dining at the restaurant to experience a unique greeting and a gracious sense of arrival as well as retain the terrace area and Magic Kingdom® fireworks viewing exclusively for guests of the restaurant.

The new system will help cut down on congestion upstairs.

People would try to walk in and get seatings (usually around fireworks time). After getting upstairs, they would hang around and watch the fireworks. Others would just go up for the fireworks without even trying to get a table.

The new system will keep people from going up without a good reason.

Still a hassle

This will help some, but there is still a problem with people with early reservations staying at tables 3 hours or more to see fireworks. It remains the one restaurant where preferred seating usually takes at least a half hour. Tried it twice and don't feel the need to again. Too many other great restaurants to have to wait for this.

Had a great meal there last trip and would definitely go back. Little snobby on their part to seclude persons from going up. What about the observation deck? That should be open to all, diners or not. It was crowded, too crowded, and the wait even with PS was over 1 hour. There has to be a way to help the situation w/o a ban on everyone.

I was at the California Grill last week and this whole check in thing was kinda odd. Never experienced this before. My PS was at 9:15PM and I was late but didn't have to wait. The observation deck was too crowded, can't imagine what it would be like if they let everyone in. This was my first time there so I can't compare it to the old system.

I advocate for any system that prevents mobs of people from staring at me while I'm eating an expensive meal. Not to mention the obnoxious people who bring their children up there and then send them over to the windows during the fireworks show. Worming their way in between the tables and chairs of people dining by the window. :hurl:
