Trip Report C’mon Everybody, Here We Go….*COMPLETED*

Think of all the joy you’ll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares goodbye!

Ahh, a relaxing getaway from reality. No cares or concerns. Just bliss.

Not exactly a perfect picture of vacationing at Walt Disney World during Spring Break, is it?

But we’re going anyway. We’re Spring Break Veterans and it’s time for the annual reunion.

Two years ago we missed out on our usual adventure thanks to Covid. The stay-at-home vacation just wasn’t the same! (Although you can read about it here: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/the-“no-trip”-trip-report-completed.964173/)

Last year we were able to return, albeit under Covid protocols. We believed that enduring masks 24/7, plexiglass and vinyl dividers on attractions, mobile order Door Nazis and limited shopping/dining/entertainment would be acceptable in exchange for the very low crowds that we’d experienced on earlier pandemic trips. But the parks were packed and we ended up spending a lot of time at the pool (which wasn’t a bad thing. We’re pool people.)

Now that park capacity has increased and nearly all Covid restrictions are gone, we expect to find the shoulder-to-shoulder spring break crowds of yore. And long lines. So we’re packing our patience and “It is what it is” attitudes.

Because in spite of all the negatives WDW is still our happy place.

We can’t wait.

Who: Tuvalu and Em
When: April 3-9, 2022
Where: Our favorite moderate resort

My plan is to go live upon our departure. Fingers crossed that Disney WiFi will be my friend.

Speaking of friends, we hope to meet up with a few. You’ll have to follow along to see if we do.

Final Thoughts

As we expected, the parks were crowded. But not shoulder-to-shoulder crowded. Not wait in line to enter a restroom crowded. We were able to manage by keeping our expectations low and being patient. We've certainly endured far worse spring break crowds.

Mobile ordering worked like a dream. Seriously. It was by far our best experience. We waited less than 5 minutes to pick up our food every time we pushed I'm Here. The only glitch was the time I received Mickey waffles instead of scrambled eggs (and there are far worse things than getting Mickey waffles! :joyfull: )

Bus transportation was great. We were either really lucky with our timing or we were recipients of some magical pixie dust (perhaps compensation for the poor POFQ bus service we had in December?)

Can’t sing the praises of the new security scanners enough. Hallelujah!

Magician meets were super fun.

Housekeeping continues to be a miss. I’ve gotten used to making my bed, but if housekeeping only comes every-other-day I expect fresh towels, replaced amenities (bar soap, lotion, TP) and wiping down of surfaces. One day we got new towels but no tub mat. Another day only one towel (but new tub mat!) Never got new soap or lotion and ran dangerously low on TP (restocked with three rolls the night before check out…) Surfaces were never wiped down (glad we aren’t messy people.) It seemed like the housekeeper was interrupted each time they were in our room and forgot the unfinished tasks.

Finding available loungers at the pool was a challenge. Note that I didn’t say “unoccupied” loungers. Most chairs were occupied by standard white pool towels, left by people too lazy to put them in the used towel bins….or too selfish to care that others might want to use the lounger they have vacated.

Isn’t it time for Disney to resume sending purchases back to resorts? I don’t think Em is willing to be a Sherpa on another trip!

I’ll end with a pet peeve. It’s Lightning Lane, not LightENing Lane. (And certainly not “LITning” Lane, as we overheard a family call it.)

Thanks so much for following along. There might be a “Part Tu” coming. Stay tuned.

Excited for part Tu! I definitely agree that it would be nice to have Em as a personal Sherpa resort package delivery come back. Bummed we’ll miss you this summer. Any chance you’ll be headed down late June 2023?

I really enjoyed your TR and "sharing your trip".☺ I agree that it was a pretty good crowd for spring break. We've seen much worse. Looking forward to Part Tu!!

I’m disappointed too! Haven’t made any plans for 2023 yet.

I mean, I’ll be at Disney for 22 days this summer, between July and August. The odds seemed good we’d coincide. Alas. I assume there’s no “You were nearly here at the same time as Tuvalu but you missed by a couple of days” card?

We’re hoping for late June next year with my sister and her kids to use some tickets she has before the babies turn three. Not set in stone, but that’s the hope.
