Bye-Bye, Soda Fountain

The Disney Soda Fountain on Hollywood Blvd is going away. It's being replaced with Ghiraradelli's. This is great news, in my opinion, as I really love the Ghirardelli's shop in DCA. The food at the Soda Fountain was decent but nothing to write home about. The ice cream was good, but I'm looking forward to Ghirardelli's. Now I won't have to go all the way to Anaheim.:D This is LA's first and only Ghirardelli's, opening on November 15th.

This only bothers me because Disney could have done more and they didn't. The Soda Fountain seemed more tourist trap than unique experience.

You're right, they absolutely could have done a much better job. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way, and I would most definitely agree it was a tourist trap.

I went over there last weekend and they were closed. At 4 in the afternoon. So...yeah. I probably won't make the trip again just for that. Guess I'll live without seeing the Disney soda fountain.

They must have been setting up for a private party. Like lazyboy said, you're not missing anything.

Cool! It does seem cute. I think I'll just plan a trip to the Disney Family Museum in SF sometime when I want a new Cali Disney experience. :)

Oh man, I want to go there SO BAD. If you want new Disney experiences in CA, if sign up for a D23 membership. Most of the events are in SoCal and they're fun.

You still have time to hit up the fountain, if you're still thinking about it. If you don't live in the LA area, I wouldn't bother, though.

We didn't have any of those around us that I recall, but we did have a couple of the "pink and green" stores that lasted up until about five years ago when Disney bought the chain back and closed a bunch of the stores. :arghh:

The Soda Fountain was a good idea, but the execution was poor, especially in the last five years or so.

They needed to get the Disneyland management to staff it and run it. You could tell they weren't really "Cast Members" running it; they just didn't have the same polish or spark or professionalism as usual park CM's.

It was quite obvious you were in a fast food joint in an urban environment when you walked into the Disney Soda Fountain.

Yeah I didn't care for the Soda Fountain at all. It always felt like a crass attempt to pull money out of all the tourists who frequent Hollywood Boulevard.

Didn't you attend the extra hours event at DCA the other night? How was it?

Yeah I had planned on going, but it turned out my gf had to work that night so we ended up going to the Friday the 13th event instead.
