Change is good for Disney most if the time. As long as it is a change for good, now things like removing figment from imagination not a good change, but updating the ride with figment intact that would be a good change. I am not a fan of the Marvel stuff though so I'm hopeful that as long as Universal still has the rights to their marvel ride Spider-Man it will stay away from WDW. I think Iger for the most part is doing a decent job, you can't please people all the time.

I always chuckle at the negative chatter concerning change at Disney. Hardcore Disney fans that are anti-change seem to forget that one of the characteristics that made Walt so great is that he was was a pioneer and was well known for his forward thinking. Walt never stayed in the same place long.

I am just as nostalgic as the next person and am disheartened when I hear that TDO is either removing or modifying one of my beloved rides from childhood. But then I remind myself that if Walt was still around, he would have definitely changed things by now and would have thought of something better and greater.

Walt was never one for being tied down to one idea. He was constantly changing and rethinking things. Heck, look at the differences between Disneyland and Disney World from a planning perspective. He learned from his mistakes at Disneyland and changed things for the better at Disney World. I wonder what his third "MK" park would have looked like, or if EPCOT would have really looked like his earlier model.

I am not always thrilled about change that is based on generating revenue at the expense of quality but that sometimes is the corporate mentality. However, at the same time, if Disney did not keep itself on its toes and keep expanding or moving into new and untouched markets/ventures, the company could and would eventually become stale and could ultimately hurt the vision and company we all love so dearly.

And that's my two cents, thanks for reading. :)

There's a bit of a difference. Walt always wanted to do things better than the competition, not buy the competition because he couldn't do it himself.

Mickey's not going anywhere. Little Radok #2 is an avid Disney Channel watcher and they program Mickey hard, including overdubbing his old cartoons with awful tweener 'songs.' There's an obvious effort to maintain interest in the character and his friends among the little set.

The CEO of Disney (no matter who it is) is responsible for performing a balancing act. He/She has to satisfy two groups who are on different sides of the spectrum; the stockholders and the customers (guests & fans). In my opinion I see Iger leaning more towards the stockholder side, but not too heavily. I believe he has some affinity for the theme parks. Eisner on the other hand leaned more towards pleasing customers (which was part of the reason he was pushed out).

I would agree with you to a degree but would also comment that the corporate world has changed significantly since Walt's time, think globalization.

I also believe that Walt would have adapted to and recognized the untouched potential in the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. Super Heroes were around in Walt's day but, forgive me if I am wrong here, I never remember Walt taking on a project that was driven by the super hero genre. Who knows, given enough time he might have approached some of the original writers/cartoonists and may have asked them to come over to Disney.

As a stockholder and a fan, it makes it even worse. I love the fact that my stock has been climbing over the past year, but it's at the expense of the staggering parks and resorts division of the company.

Yes keep anything marvel out!!!

Well, this is more of a contractual thing than a creative thing. If Uni. didn't already have exclusive East Coast rights to the characters you bet we'd have a Marvel Land planned at WDW by now.

Walt was not a believer in repeating your own successes and was most definitely against buying other's franchises to make a profit.
Walt Disney made 124 Mickey Mouse films. Also, it should be noted that Disney purchased the rights to use Winnie-the-Pooh et al in 1961 and went on to crank out two Pooh featurettes prior to his death.

As the parent to two pre-schoolers, I can attest that Disney Junior pushes the mouse pretty hard, also, between Mickey Mouse clubhouse and reairings of films such as The Three Muskateers.

I should also mention that I hate what they've done to Mickey as well. The new programming of him is terrible. He wasn't supposed to be a strictly toddler focused character. They've dumbed him down so much, maybe they should just get rid of him. What happen to the sophisticated, sneaky, and somewhat mischievous mouse that we all loved?

I just know from the past that every time Disney tries to get "hip" or "cool" its a disaster. Witness the tiki room remodel (before the fire) or Stitch. Disney needs to understand that people who want to go to Universal will go there. Disney needs to focus on what it used to do best...making everyone feel like a kid, and flooding their parks with hope and joy. Leave the cynical "cool" crud to Universal.

I guess Horizons and Figment aren't coming back!! (This is more of a statement around Future World going back to the past to find it's roots and being about the future again. I didn't really think Horizons was coming back)
