the guy in the article really didnt do his research he probably got the same info we have saying theres going to be hints of something at d23 because he could not have gotten any early info because anytime the company announces a new ride/ land (especially star wars or marvel based) it stocks jump and if he got any info that its not available to the public it would considered insider trading. even if he didnt own disney stock disney would not risk telling a random yahoo finance guy who might tell someone who does own about an expansion because theyd be risking a lawsuit and a federal investigation.

I don't think Mickey should have been allowed to become a bland corporate icon like he is now. Or the toddler version. All the advertising aims Disney at little kids nowadays, so everybody thinks Disney is just for parents to take small children, which is sad.

I am a stock holder AND a big fan who has been going to WDW since it opened (I'm old, what can I say) and by and large I think Iger has been great for the company, but then I'm one of the minority that also thinks Eisner did some good, especially while he had Wells as a partner. I cannot imagine how frustrated he and other execs get when they read websites like this. Every single change or addition brings a torrent of how they're ruining everything, they trampling the wonder that Walt built, how can they do such a horrible job (never mind attendance keeps climbing), if they make one more change I'm done and will never go again, they've destroyed by favorite ride, display, attraction. On the other hand, when they don't change something they get an equally large torrent of how cheap is TDO, why are they letting everything become so stale, followed by endless arias about how Uni is delivering new product every couple months and we get the same tired parades - for the record they've been taking down "classics" like jaws to do that. Sadly we will never know how long Walt would have allowed old rides/attractions to stand, after all he was not alive long enough to see any of his attractions to the 20 year point, let along 35-40 years. Since he always looked toward the future he probably would have leveled attraction with more gusto than anyone does today.

There's a bit of a difference. Walt always wanted to do things better than the competition, not buy the competition because he couldn't do it himself.

True, but Walt and Roy were very smart Business men and if they had the opportunities that Iger had to purchase Pixar, Marvel, and Lucas they would have jumped. Maybe we forget that all of those classic movies did not just come out of thin air...they were written many, many years before Walt. He took them and made them speak come alive, rescued some of those stories and gave us gifts. Is that no what they are trying to do with Marvel and Lucas Film, would we rather have had Universal buy the rights to both of them. Change is good, while we may want more in the Parks, especially WDW when looking at the big picture, they have done a great job increasing the Disney Brand. I have learned in my years that in dealing with the public, you can never please everyone and in most cases you cannot please anyone.

Everything Iger has done has hit the bullseye, the man should be commended for not only a job well done, but the future CEO's job well done as well.

Its easy to rag on the guy, for what I don't know but the hipsters will find something shallow to wallow in but the facts, what Iger has accomplished now and the future will be a measuring stick of all companies to build a great today and a great big beautiful tomorrow that they will no doubt try to emulate themselves.

Walt created it all.
Eisner took Walt's company and made it a powerhouse.
Iger made it eternal.

These are great times we live in to be fans of Disney, too bad its over the heads of some.

Jimmy Thick- other will come and go, Disney will be there for my kids kids kids.

I dont have an issue with getting new IP. I have an issue with throwing away the old to do it. Disney needs to stick with what has worked for 80 years....and enhance it.

He hasn't done anything to increase the "Disney Brand" except for add more properties under that umbrella that at this point the probably feel is holding them back. Unless you closely follow the stock, or the Media industry, or Disney, most people haven't a clue that all of these are Disney Brands. Most people forget that Disney has bought Marvel, couldn't give a Mouse's tail who owned LucasArts, and can't tell Pixar from Dreamworks, especially when trying to have a conversation about them. Infact, some people still don't realize/don't care that Disney owns ESPN.

Strengthening the Disney brand... HA!

That name should be synonymous with EVERYTHING that company does. It USED to be. And it USED to be the most important name in that company.

A while back I read DisneyWar, a book written by a guy named James Stewart (No relation to the actor I think). The book covered the Eisner years beginning with how he came to the company (I highly recommend this book for any Disney geek that hasn't read it). The picture DisneyWar paints of the WDC after a decade without Walt was pretty ugly. A financial ruin, ripe for a hostile corporate takeover. Whatever you want to say now about Iger, I'd rather have his brand of corporate governance than have a company on the verge of being bought out and broken up. It is obvious from the money that was poured into DCA and now across WDW that the parks division continues to be considered important to this company. As for what this money is buying, I'm going to withhold judgement till I see it. I've never REALLY been let down yet.

We shall see.....in 80 years....;)

Maybe you can, I'll be long dead, have a drink for me.

But its debatable.

Mickey and Minnie, Donald and the whole gang are an amazing brand.

I think Pooh tops them all in terms of popularity but that's just what I think.

Star Wars kills them both.

Iger getting Star Wars will do nothing but be a license to print money in Disney's hands, more so than the other things they own.

Jimmy Thick- Its completely brilliant.

For some reason, whenever I see your posts, I can't get the song "Blurred Lines" out of my head.

I don't have a problem with Iger as a businessman.

The problem is that he is nothing but a businessman. He doesn't have Walt Disney or Michael Eisner's concept of showmanship...if he did, I think we'd be seeing a REAL Second Disney Renaissance, including more hand-drawn animated features in conjunction with CGI and a working Yeti.
