Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

Does anyone besides me think this needs either - a) a major overhaul or b) a new ride? I went on it on 10/7/11 for MNSSHP and I was almost embarrassed. As for my cart, it wouldn't spin completely in places it was supposed to spin and one of the shooters didn't work. The insides of the carts also looked horrible, I mean absolutely dreadful. As a plus though, the line had absolutely no wait.

thoughts?

Buzz used to be one of my favorite rides but I agree that it is in need of some SERIOUS upkeep. I'd love to see it go down for a couple of months while they gave it a new coat of paint and fixed the gaming system to be more accurate. I think it has a lot of potential but it's hurting quite a bit right now. Especially when you can go to Studios and ride a very similar yet much, much higher quality ride in TSM.

If anything, I'd like to see a general clean up and the guns altered so you can pick them up and hold them in your hand. That would make it a better attraction in my opinion.

There are two definite improvements the DL version has over WDW's: you can pick up the guns and they have borders around the targets in different shapes depending on the point value. I also had a much easier time aiming in DL, but I'm not sure if it's just being able to pick up the gun or something else with the game system.

LOVE this ride. its always a competition between the family. we have a great time. BUT, there is nothing worse then a trigger button that doesn't work:veryconfu

I have to admit that if they ripped this ride out I would be thrilled. I always felt it was a cheap, ridiculous excuse of a ride just to get Buzz into the Magic Kingdom. It is basically laser tag that was popular in the early 90s. Half the time it doesn't work or the lasers are amazingly inaccurate. They can do so, so much better. And it pains me that Buzz and Stitch are often the first attractions that most people come to first thing in the morning. TL needs some serious work...

We ride this attraction multiple times each visit but only because my wife has such severe motion sickness she cannot ride things like TT or any coasters. She loves this attraction but it has fallen into severe disrepair lately. I would love to see Disney shut the ride down for a major refurb. I think the problem with the ride is that it has such a high volume of traffic and add that to the fact that you can "control" the vehicle and the crazy people that jerk twist and yank on the guns, and you get a broken attraction. They need to put in sturdier equipment and tighten the whole ride up. I have many times gone to a CM at the end and informed them that my gun either rarely fired or didn't fire at all. They give me a FP for the ride (most of the time) but that doesn't mean that I won't get another broken vehicle.

I think my family and I would like it just as much though if they took out the Buzz theme and left the ride design and guns but changed it to a more space alien theme. Not necessarily a cartoon but maybe some AAs mixed in.

I'd be ok with scrapping it and going in another direction.
Men in Black over at Uni really made Buzz obsolete the day it opened.

They could do the same thing they are doing with TT and gut the attraction and put in sturdier ride vehicles and change the overall theme to a more realistic alien shooting scene.

2 gripes..

1) If it's dire for a refurb for a month or 2 they could at least have the guns that are used at DL for freedom to move instead of being stationary on the vehichle. Plus when you hit a target it flashes as well..Some minor improvements make it a little better..

2) My other gripe...While it may sound silly is this..The attraction is said that it is Based on Toy Story 2...When they have a statue of Booster and a backdrop of Star Command from the animated series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command..To me it seemed like they were going to go all out on the series before they decided to change it..

well, it was it's 13th birthday on the 7th of october so i guess it is getting on a bit.

saying that, i've only ever been on it twice, so i'm happy with it. i would have thought free moving guns would make it more fun, like on MiB at Univ, but yeah, maybe a mini refurb is in order.

i like the ride though, so i hope they don't get rid of it.

I would be able to settle for the updated removable guns from the other resorts and a general refurb.

I agree it isn't the greatest attraction that has been in that building but we do enjoy the competition as a family.

I enjoy it. It's definitely not my favorite ride that's been there (I LOVED Dreamflight!!!) but we enjoy competing as a family to see who gets the lowest score and has to buy treats for everyone else :slurp:

Refurb. Buzz is a classic that is consistently one of the most popular attractions on property. I'd say change the targets, add removable guns and some newer tech to make it fresh again. It's still a great attraction. It just needs some TLC...

It's not a very good shooter ride anymore when compared to its competition. I'd like to see it scrapped altogether. My dream replacement? A new version of Adventure Thru Inner Space.
