But it's tradition...

The Teppan Edo thread got me thinking, how many of us consistently go to some Disney restaurants simply because it's tradition despite rising prices and falling standards? I'll be the first to admit we have two, Teppan Edo and Via Napoli. I'll say in the last five years the offerings and quality, at least at these two, has fallen while prices have risen but despite all that our crew continues to go because it wouldn't "feel right" if we didn't. Am I alone in this?

Hasn't Via Napoli only been open for like five years? And it's already a tradition for y'all?

For us, it's Rose & Crown. We haven't noticed the decline you describe, but it's definitely one we do because we feel like we're supposed to regardless of whether we actually want to or not.

With ya. Basically, I think if you like a restaurant you won't stop going unless the changes or decline or whatever really bothers you.

I'm like that with Cosmic Rays....been going since I was a kid and its part of my childhood at Disney...the burgers aren't the best but they're just burgers, they would have to get reeeeaally horrible for me know to just not go anymore.

When Tusker House was counter service it may not have been "tradition" but it was our go to spot for lunch at AK. It was a hidden gem of a counter service where you could get rotisserie chicken and grilled salmon but as a table service it's another so-so buffet...tried it once after the change and haven't been back.

When the DD was a youngster Chef Mickeys was a tradition of sorts where you could have a spot of breakfast (albeit a buffet, but it's pretty hard to screw up eggs & bacon) and see the 5 or 6 characters in about an hour. Doubling the size of the restaurant as they have done, it's now (or last time we did it in 2009) show up 10-15 before reservation time, wait 30-45 minutes, get sat at your table, have this same old breakfast they have everywhere, and wait up to 1 1/2 hours for all the characters to come by (or give up on the last one).

Decline noticed.

Fish and chips are always good IMHO....

Be Our Guest. We have gone the first full day we are at the parks for the last two years and will go again this year. No one ever leaves thinking that what they ate was particularly good, and it's obviously over priced, but it's just what we do.

And T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe.

I've been going to Via Napoli every year since it's opened but haven't seen a decline in quality. Everything seems the same to me. What are you referring to in particular? Maybe I just haven't noticed and my eyes will be opened.

For us, the service has been failing, slow inattentive and even rude waiters. The food, while still tasty, has gotten very sloppy. Here is an example from our last visit, a large with pepperoni and sausage:

It takes a lot for us to complain, and we didn't with this and will take the hit for that, but this pie was just straight up sloppy, no effort went into making it. This is not the first pie we received like this only the one I could get to a picture of quickest.

Table service traditions for us include Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. Quick Serve are Cosmic Rays, Casey's, Captain Cook's (for breakfast) and Pizza Planet. Other than that we repeat several others on different trips and try each a few new places each trip.

Our next trip will include the following new places for us QS Breakfast at Be Our Quest, Dinner at Via Napoli and Mama Melrose.

My DH is a creature of habit and always insists on Teppan Edo and T-Rex (what can I say he never grew up?). My DS are more adventurous. We are trying Via Napoli for the first time (haven' been to the WORLD since '09) and Restaurant Marrakesh (my younger DS's BF is Moroccan). I'm always excited to try new places.

The closest we have to traditions are Chef Mickey's breakfast and Boma dinner. I haven't seen any change in quality, but obviously prices have been increasing pretty drastically.
