how are the buses at WL? Wife and I have finally decided on christmas time 2011 for a trip to wl. Whenever we have eaten at artist point it always seems liek the buses dont run too often. I'm thinking about driving its only a 10 hour drive from new orleans so we'll have a car. but swa is only 1.5 hours non-stop and is so nice. we are planning hotel time this trip since weve been so many times and thr crowds will be really low. what should we do? If someone has a link tho a similar thread please post it. I couldn't find one.

this summer we stayed ay FW. a couple of times during storms we were sent by bus from FW to WL to get bus to MK when boat was not running for safety reasons. from what i saw at those times buses were crowded and waited awhile for a MK bus.

I have to say, last year we were extremely disappointed in the buses, it took us FOREVER to get anywhere from the Wilderness Lodge. This year, Oct 11-17, they were much better. But in general, we take the boat whenever at all possible because it is AWESOME. We Love the boat.

I would say no better or no worse than from anywhere else.

For the most part 15 minute waits. Some 5, and one or two clunkers of 30 minutes in there.

One of the great aspects of a WL stay is the superior bus service. We found most days the bus came in about 5 - 10 minutes max. MK bus was especially frequent. We tended to us the boat on the ay back to the WL, as we found the bus was faster which was important to us on the way to MK.

We have stayed at the WL several times most recent being 8/10 and we have never had much issue at all. This past trip we have delays while waiting at DHS to head back to WL and leaving Epcot...both early afternoons...but other than that have had great bus service!!! ANd we really like the boat...great to MK or to CR to transfer to Rail!!!!! Would not base where you stay on buses as any resort can can issues at any time...it all apart of life!!!

Bus service is generally good at all WDW resorts. There's no objective way to know how the bus service is overall, because even people staying at the same resort at the same time can have wildly different experiences.

It was the running joke during our week at the Polynesian that we never waited more than 2 or 3 minutes for a bus, all week! We joked that Disney was spying on us to make sure we had a good time, that they bugged our room to find out where we were heading and when they saw us walking to the bus stop they dispatched a bus and had it change its destination to our destination.

So because we waited no more than 3 minutes for a bus all week, should I conclude that Poly has the best bus service ever? NO WAY. It's the same there as everywhere ... buses come around every 20 minutes or so. Imagine if there was another family who made all the same moves we did, but just did so exactly 18 minutes after we did it. For them, the Poly bus service would not have been good, as they'd be waiting about 20 minutes for every single bus all week.

Know what I mean?

if it's much easier to fly down rather than drive then way not fly and if you want to get somewhere without worry for bus times just get a taxi. between two points from just about anywhere on disney property (parks, resorts etc...) it's usually under $10 by taxi.

I guess you guys are right. I've always judged the buses at wl on a time late at night heading to the parks to go back to another hotel. Being in dw by 130 i nthe afternoon does sound nice.

The sharing is what makes the bus situation bad. WL shares with FW to Epcot and the Grand Floridian for the AK. I don't know who they share with when going to DHS. WL is usually the first pick up and drop off. That is nice. I guess my gripe is sometimes picking up at FW takes a while. I think maybe the values have better service because they serve the masses and have more "motor coaches" as a result. As a perk, though, WL buses usually have sitting room whereas value and moderate buses are usually full. Don't let the bus deter you from the lodge. It is WONDERFUL! We've stayed there three times and have loved it each time.

leaving mk to go back to the resort was pretty normal for us going to wl...it was HORRIBLE trying to get back to bwi. bwi shares it's bus with several other deluxe resorts so not only was our line about 5 times longer than any of the others we were already over 2 hours past the close of the park and the bus was still packed yet other lines had no one in them at all. remember if you're going from mk to wl you can always take the ferry boat that goes directly to the resort. it's a little slow but it goes right to the resort.

I was just there last May and I can't complain about the transportation. I would try to always use the boat to MK or the monorail as it was always very pleasent. I did use the bus for DHS and it was fine. On a sidenote the hotel is beautiful. Take time to be at the lobby and see "old faithful" next to the pool.

Enjoy your trip :sohappy: !

Not sure when you last did the taxi in WDW, but we used it on our last two trips, from the Epcot Resort Area to Contemporay or Grand Floridian - either way averaged $20 per ride. Since we have flown our last several trips, and used Magical Express, in the evening when eating out we have taken the taxi (much faster for sure than buses) and we did not have a trip less than $20
